We’ve been literally forced into a cash-based grocery budget for the last month because of a variety of circumstances. We’re given about $150, which is supposed to last us from payday to payday. Unfortunately, what it’s actually meant is that we go without because we do not have access to any more money (i.e. we can’t move money from an envelope that has more into our food budget because we are literally limited to $150). I’ve tried matching sales with coupons, but because we are so limited in that amount we can’t even afford to get any sort of backstock going. That $150 covers a minimum of $50 gas for the car weekly, HBA and toiletrees, household cleaning supplies, school necessities for our daughter, and other things, so by the time we actually get to “groceries for the week” we only have about $75 if we’re lucky.
Let me tell you, the entire situation REALLY SUCKS! I’m so tired of boxed pasta and canned chicken (because with coupons and sales, the canned chicken is cheaper than the fresh chicken, and it’s already been cooked so we just have to heat it). Can’t wait for this to be over so that I can have more money in our budget for food!

We always use cash and coupons and I don’t shop the dollar store for food or places for a buck..No I get some cards there but never food, I know when the meat will be marked down and poultry and know the meat manager so I get good deals, I hit two places early on the senior days of 10 to 15 percent off period, I also get fresh produce and veggies and fruits when the stuff comes in season for cash and get a discount, just makes living and budgeting easier than any other form of payment.
