Welcome to the 5-Day Clean Your House for Christmas Challenge. Otherwise known as: Crystal really needs to deep clean her house and she needs the public accountability to get it done. Ahem. 🙂
{Thank you for humoring me. If your house is in great shape, please just skip over these posts. I may be the only one who has kind of let my housework and decluttering slide a bit the past few months.}
I got up a little late this morning as I stayed up late last night finishing up some business projects that I really needed to get done but just hadn’t had the energy for because I was sick. It felt so good to finally check those off my list!
I’m a little late in getting around this morning, but because my house is clean and the laundry is mostly done already, I’m still hopeful that it’s going to be a good day!
Today, we’re cleaning the bathrooms. I’m optimistic that this will be an easier job since there aren’t as many nooks, crannies, and cupboards for stuff to be hiding.
Here’s my plan for this morning (feel free to follow it somewhat, if you find it helpful… or you can get a laugh out of how detailed I am!):
This Morning’s Plan
1. Read my Bible, eat breakfast, and start laundry.
2. Blogging work/emails.
3. Exercise, shower, get dressed to my shoes. (Thanks, Flylady!)
4. Morning chores with the kids.
5. Get the kids started on their schoolwork. Kindergarten with Silas.
6. Switch the laundry.
7. Attack the bathrooms:
- Surface clean.
- Go through cupboards, drawers, and closet.
8. Read aloud with the kids.
9. Celebrate a productive morning, er day… because it probably won’t all get done by noon!
So, that’s my morning plan. I’m hopeful to have it all done before dinner time today. I’ll take pictures and will post an update later today to let you know how it goes.
Want To Join Me?
Are you joining me? If so, what room(s) are you planning to tackle today and what’s your morning plan? Let us know in the comments. If you are blogging about it, I’ll have a link-up that you can link your post to in my post later today.

I’m finishing up the laundry today so its a good time to wipe down the appliances and drawers, and vacuum the floor of the laundry room.
I seem to have trouble with drawers in every room. My bathroom drawers are no exceptions. 🙂

Yay! I was planning to get through our bathroom yesterday, but I got distracted with the state of the bedroom and closet. Those look awesome, so now it’s time to conquer the bathroom!
It’s so freeing to have the mindset of getting rid of all that is unnecessary – makes me feel like I own the stuff, not the other way around, lol. 🙂

Do you spend a lot of time teaching your girls or do they work on their own? I have a 2nd grader and kindergartener and just teaching their different lessons takes up most of my morning. I Always like hearing how other people do their homeschooling (and possibly getting suggestions on how to do things better!).

So, Murphy’s law hit me again, Crystal!! As I went to comb my 8 year old’s hair last night, I saw IT. The subject of many a mother’s nightmares. LICE!!! I high-tailed it to the pharmacy and was up until 2am nitpicking 🙁 I’ve washed and dried 10 loads of laundry because it was all her pillows, bedding, stuffed animals, outerwear plus the pillow covers for our couch, a bunch of towels… 🙁
Also, everyone seems to have an opinion or different experience on what actually works to get rid of lice. Some say Rid/Nix. Some say that doesn’t work but Lice MD does. Some say to use the spray. Some say to use the gel. Some say to use mayonnaise, olive oil, cetaphil, saran wrap, blow dryers, rubbing alcohol, tea tree oil, almond oil, coconut oil and then my community has some lice center where they use an enzyme thing and do the nit picking for you. Oh and then there are prescription medications. Good grief!
Oh, and I’ve picked up a stomach virus. I got maybe an hour of sleep between 3am and 7am when my husband’s alarm went off.
