Are you joining us for the 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge? If so, it’s Friday and guess what that means? It’s time for our weekly check-in to post our progress.
March’s Challenge:
We’re focusing on developing the habit of drinking more water in March. I encourage you to set a simple and doable goal for drinking more water and to stick with it.

My Water Intake Goal for March
My goal for March is to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. I’m also hoping to keep up with January’s habit of doing exercising at least 4-5 times every week and February’s habit of eating six big salads every week.
This Week’s Progress:
I hit my goal of drinking 8 glasses of water each day 5 days this week — this is definitely an area where I still need to work on making this a better habit. I hit my exercise goals, as well as my salad goals — yay!

Here’s a few tips that have helped me stick with drinking water.
1) I have (4) 32 oz water bottles in different colors that I switch around every day. They are only made up of 2 pieces, no extra gadgets, which makes them really easy to clean.
2) I fill 2 of my 32 oz water bottles every night before going to bed. This means bare minimum I’m drinking 64 oz of water (8 cups a day). This also means the water is nice and cold in the morning.
3) Even though I have 4 water bottles, I only fill 2 of them. I’ve tried filling all 4 and when I open the fridge I just feel so overwhelmed with all the water I “have to drink”. 2 is more manageable and I end up drinking more than that most days.
4) I always take one water bottle with me on errands. I take 1 or 2 to work depending on how long I’m working. I “have” to finish my water by the time I get home. The people at work give me a hard time for not finishing my water so it keeps me on track.
5) Have 10 calorie water drink mixes on hand. You can find them in the dollar spots at some stores, and they make the water taste like juice.
I hope that helps someone! 🙂

I ate my salads every day, though I think I skipped a piece of fruit on one day. I haven’t been exercising using my DVDs, though I’ve been walking around outside more now that the weather is getting nicer. My water I haven’t drank like I need to this week. Kind of flopped on that one. I’ll get better with it, though; I think my biggest challenge on that is how often my kids take my bottle and lose it!

I know this is an area I need to work on but I did do better this week. I completely agree with sdr and Beth on having less cravings when I am fully hydrated!

I did better this week getting my water in each day. I made a point to drink two glasses around each meal and that helped. I feel better when I get enough water to drink.

I agree with sdr, when I begin my day hydrated, it goes better all day. Everything else actually tastes better, and I have fewer cravings. I think it’s true that sometimes our food cravings are really thirst that we don’t recognize as such.

I have a 24 oz Contigo bottle and just know I need to drink four of those in a day (well, 5-6 now that I’m 7 months pregnant). One “trick” that helps a lot is leaving it full next to my bed and when I get up in the morning I don’t let myself have coffee until it’s gone. If you start the day hydrated it’s much easier to stay that way.

I’ve done 10 cups of water each day for the past five days. I’m feeling so much better (although I’ve also cut out a lot of the junk food too). Planning on keeping this up. My body seems to need this much!

I purchased a water infusing pitcher, and I find that if I add fresh berries, cucumber, or melon to the water, than I like to drink it more. Eight glasses a day do not seem so daunting when you can customize your water!

I fill a one gallon pitcher of just water at bedtime & keep it in the refrigerator for just me. Then, it’s cold when I get up in the morning. I fill a glass or water bottle from it to take with me on any errands, & keep filling my glass from it throughout the day. When it’s empty, I’ve drank 8 8-oz glasses of water that day.

Thanks for this GREAT idea!

Oops. 8 8-oz glasses = 64 oz or a half gallon pitcher, not one gallon.
