We took a family trip to Oklahoma City this past weekend. Silas was so excited about the trip and had looked forward to it for quite awhile.
On the drive down, he kept exclaiming, “This is the BEST day of my life!”
Every time he said it, it made me smile. Not just because it makes me so happy to be able to bring so much thrill to my 4-year-old, but also because I love his enthusiasm for life.
I want to live each day with that kind of attitude. I want to wake up each morning thinking, “This is the BEST day of my life!” And then I want to go through the day living like that.
Because truly, today is the only day we can live right now, so we might as well choose to make it the best day of our lives. And then we can wake up tomorrow and think the same thing!

This post made me smile. Kids are great in that way, they remind us to live in the moment and love living life!
Thank you for sharing this perspective!
Just recently, my 3 year-old daughter has started exclaiming at dinner that “this is the BEST day ever!” She’s said it every night for probably the last 2 weeks or so. I just love her enthusiasm and really hope that she continues to be so appreciative and optismistic.
What a little cutie! Children really know how to live, and set the atmosphere! I always say, if you want to learn life lessons look to a happy child.
I just love this story…. I’m from Oklahoma City!! And while I love our little city, I’m just curious what had your son so excited about visiting? Maybe we can bottle and sell it! 😉
We went to the Science Center (we have a membership) and the LEGO movie (we had a Fandango gift card from Christmas and no theater accepts them here). He was THRILLED!
Our 4 year old says at least once or twice a week: “This is the best dinner ever!” So cute–love their enthusiasm 🙂
No way Silas is 4! I can’t believe it! I remember when your second was born! I seem to remember you saying that you and the hubs wanted a lot more kids. Is that still the plan? Or is Silas your forever-baby?
At this point, we’re very content and just soaking up our time with the three precious children we have. As to the future, we’ll see. 🙂
My 4 year old does the same thing
My 6 year old had a big day on friday – Valentine’s day, her birthday and a one-hundredth day of school party. She was pretty much walking on air all. day. long. and I was having similar thoughts to yours.
Children just relish all those little things in life that we sometimes overlook or are too busy for. They are such a good reminder to appreciate the every day blessings we have.
My 4 year old often surprises me too with his level of excitement and joy in life. At our homeschool co-op (CC), he had to do a presentation about his favorite place in the whole world. He talked for 2 minutes about playing miniature golf with his family and how he loved the miniature golf course. One of the moms asked, “Oh, when was your birthday?” and was surprised when he answered, “4 months ago”. It’s amazing how special the simple things are for our kids.
What a sweet boy! Seems like just yesterday that he was a newborn.
When my daughter is having trouble embracing the day (as she sometimes doesn’t want to go to school), I tell her about my Grandma’s favorite bible verse: “This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.”
But it is great to see things from the perspective of your child’s enthusiasm, and it can be so contagious!
It’s funny how often my son (6 yrs) says that. And it’s always the small things that we often take for granted or think nothing of. Getting to stay up a little late on a weekend to play a card game or finish watching a movie w/ some popcorn, etc..
Thank you for the joyous post!! It made me smile.
I was just discussing the same concept with my 9 year old daughter in regards to Jamie Grace’s song Beautiful Day. Even if things don’t go exactly the way we think they should it is a beautiful day because God gave it to us so we should live it that way.
Love this!
My children will often say this too 🙂 “This is the Best Day Ever!” whether it’s a play date with friends, playing a game (they really want to play), playing outside or celebrating birthdays. They are so enthusiastic and Joyful about the simple things in our days and it just Blesses my Heart! Hope you guys enjoyed the your trip! 🙂
Amen Crystal!!
Good for him!! What a great attitude to have 🙂 (and I can’t believe he is 4! Seems like yesterday I was reading Biblical Womanhood, your pregnancy with him and then his birth! I’ve been an MSM fan from the outset!! )
Thanks, Crystal!
Wow! You’ve been a reader for a long time — thank you! And yes, I can’t believe Silas is 4, almost 5!
Same here! I started reading you at BH in while in the U.S., then 2 international moves and back to the U.S., and you are still here, better format, always awesome advice! Thanks to you I also discovered Dave Ramsey. Keep up the great work, God bless you and your family!
