It’s Day #6 of the 500 Things Decluttering Challenge…
Today’s project was to go through your kitchen drawers and cupboards and find 50 things to get rid of.
I’ve already spent quite a bit of time decluttering in the kitchen with this challenge, so I had to dig sort of deep, but I found a few kitchen utensils that were broken, some duplicate Home Depot aprons, and a few rags we needed to dispense of, among other things.
All in all, I found 27 items to get rid of!!! I was so excited about it!
Today’s total: 27 items decluttered
Total for the entire challenge: 251 items so far!
I’m keeping a running total of all my items decluttered during this challenge as I thought it would be fun to not only do Daily Totals but also Overall Totals.
How many items did YOU declutter today?? Leave a comment and let us know.
P.S. You can read more about the Decluttering Course I’m going through here. If you’d like to join me in going through it in January and get the videos, information, and printables every day, you can go here to purchase and get it for just $5.99 right now!

I thought I’d come up with more in this area but only managed #26 things. Like Crystal, I cleaned some kitchen drawers, etc. with other challenges. Still happy to have gotten rid of 26 things. Total is #394!!

I had 7 items set aside this weekend to giveaway over the next few weeks to people who will appreciate them. Things we don’t need here and things we won’t really use but I know my friends will appreciate. Today I also made a point of eating 2 food items that were expired (I know, I’m so bad– but I really hate throwing food away) so that those are gone too.
Total pantry items out of the kitchen this week: 9
Total items in the challenge: 125 (slow and steady to 500)

That’s so great that you’re cleaning out the clutter (and eating it too)! 🙂

Food usually doesn’t have expiration dates any more. They usually have “Best Buy” dates, which is when the food is at its optimum flavor. Most foods are good for quite a while after the “Best Buy” date listed on the package. I use pasta one year past the “Best Buy” date a lot, because I was given ALOT of it.

I started with my baking supply drawer and threw out thirteen things, most of which were measuring cups and spoons whose size had been washed off along with a few cheap or in-poor-condition duplicates. Why did I keep them when I couldn’t even tell how much they measured? 🙂 Then I moved to the catch-all drawer where I threw out rusty duplicates; again, why did I keep them? Next, I cleaned out the drawer where we keep the phone book and other like supplies. While this is really part of our home office, I was saving it for today. I threw out old catalogs, old phone books (one from five years and two moves ago), and an old checkbook (the starter one with its handwritten label from our last move). Lastly, I tackled the two drawers where I keep plastic bags and miscellaneous things. All together, I was able to throw away, give away, or move to a better place 74 things. Now there’s so much more room in all of my drawers. Wonderful!!

Way to go, Nikki!

Did you Areolatte break? Couldn’t live without ours!
Crystal Paine says
Yes! 🙁 It has gotten SO much use that it up and died! I tried unsuccessfully to bring it back to life– to no avail. Gratefully, replacements are pretty cheap!

I got caught up with this challenge over the weekend and now have a total of 286 items decluttered, and even was able to take a car full to Salvation Army to be donated. Yay for having things out of the house! I had a big box of old plates and cups that I was saving, but not using, so that helped up my total, as did the big bag of Christmas ornaments I decided to donate.
I’ve blogged about my experience with this challenge thus far, for anyone who is interested: http://finallygetorganized.com/update-on-the-500-things-decluttering-challenge/
