Happy Saturday! After a week of short nights and a lot of go-go-go, I was SO happy to get 10 hours of sleep last night!!
I used to push my body to the max, live on little sleep much of the time, and just keep powering through. But my Year of Rest has taught me that I’m so much happier, healthier, productive, and focused when I’m regularly getting really great sleep.
It’s okay to occasionally have a few days or a week when you need to just power through because of things happening in life, but I don’t want to make that a lifestyle. So, I’ve had to make a lot of choices and adjustments to make that a reality.
Be willing to make those wise (albeit hard) choices. It’s worth it!
(Another way I’m taking care of myself is by fueling my body with good food — like this Banana, Spinach, Coconut Water, Almond Butter Smoothie… So yummy!!)
Need some practical ideas on ways to get more sleep? Read this post.
What are you doing this weekend to take care of yourself?

I’ve struggled with insomnia all of my life. I must be in the bed for at least 8 hours, because otherwise, I’m not going to get enough sleep. I can’t sleep for more than 4 or 5 hours straight, so I need to have the ability to go back to sleep for an hour or two after I’ve woken up in the middle of the night and starred at the ceiling foreer. I have always made laying in the bed a priority, because I know I’m angry if I don’t. Eating food is super important to me to. I have never “forgotten” to eat. 😀 Oh…and taking a shower- I always take a shower. As long as I get to lay in the bed for 8 hours, take a shower, and have food- I can do anything.

I’m setting aside time to read a good book and play games with my kids. I’ve changed my mindset from feeling guilty about resting, to realizing I need to refuel in order to function well. I’ve been taking short breaks throughout the day as well as thinking more about how to recharge over the weekend. It’s actually really fun after years of feeling guilty when I would take a break!

Our family is doing a year of rest too, we talked about our goals for 2016 and rest and saying no to almost everything was our top goal. We’ve enjoyed this year and I’m thinking now I want to make it a lifetime of rest. LOL. I’m enjoying homeschooling now instead of just trying to get it done. More family game and movie nights. I do need to work on getting more sleep though.

I spent some time last night floating around in our above ground pool reading a book. I started today (Saturday) with a run with friends and I am thinking I will end it with more pool floating and reading. Have a great weekend!

That sounds amazing! We spent HOURS at the pool this week with friends and it was SO nice and relaxing — especially since the heat is in full force here now!

Spent last evening floating in our pool with my husband making plans for our summer vacation. Went to bed early and went Stand Up Paddel boarding today in a small resort town and had dinner and a little shopping. Tomorrow laundry, treadmill and a little packing for my upcoming trip to my sisters.
