Erin from The Humbled Homemaker emailed in and said:
Most Aldi stores have now released a temporary organic line to test whether there is a demand for these items! I was excited to see this announcement in their weekly flier.
I visited the store on Saturday and sure enough, our Aldi currently had raw milk organic cheese, organic string cheese, organic yogurt, organic frozen berries, organic canned tomatoes, organic jarred pasta sauce, and more! I always shop at Aldi first because their prices are so good. If they keep the organic line, I will be shopping there even more!
I am hoping that if enough people shop while they are testing the line or write to request that they keep it that Aldi will decide to keep it around–and expand on it! Please encourage people to write to Aldi on their Facebook page or email them through their contact form and ask that they continue offering this line of organic products. -Erin

Very exciting to have an organic line….bring it to Pittsburgh, PA please:)

I work 2 doors down from Aldi so it is super convenient for me to shop there. However, I only get a few things from there since we switched to clean eating. This is great news! I went in and bought some of these items the first week, and I just went in again yesterday and they are nearly sold out of all of these items. It says “get them while supplies lasts”. That usually means they aren’t coming back…but hopefully they do and are even more expansive with the line!

I never shop at Aldis, but there is one right on the way home from church, so maybe I’ll stop and check it out on Sunday. I shop at Trader Joes often though!
Jackie says
Yay!!! I love Aldi! It’s one of my favorite places to shop. I’m so checking this out.
Lana says
My store had those things back in the fall and I don’t think they went over so well because they just stayed on the shelf and then were clearanced out. This week my store had organic bananas, grape tomatoes and potatoes. I hope they continue to have the organic bananas at 1.19 for 2 pounds.

Thanks for providing a link to send feedback to Aldi! I’ve tried several of the new products and they have all been wonderful – and such a great deal! I just sent them a big thank you.
K says
Yes! I saw that line, too. Didn’t notice the raw milk organic cheese and the organic yogurt, though. Awesome!! I hope that this keep this line going!
I saw fresh, organic apples there, too. I realize that organic products are more expensive than others, but these apples were even more expensive than the organic apples at Kroger, which happened to be on sale. Even w/ that, I was glad to see that they were available, as I regularly shop @ Aldi. I’m sure they’ll have an awesome sale on them, soon.
So glad they now have organics!

If any of you live in an area where it’s still legal to sell raw dairy products, I would think twice before consuming it, especially if you do not have a good immune system or are pregnant – that goes doubly for children. They are much more susceptible to bacteria that can be found in raw milk and products made from it and it CAN kill – the bacteria includes ones that cause listeriosis, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, diphtheria, and brucellosis. http://www.fda.gov/Food/ResourcesForYou/consumers/ucm079516.htm
Pregnant women might also want to take note of: “Pregnant women run a serious risk of becoming ill from the bacteria Listeria which can cause miscarriage, fetal death or illness or death of a newborn. If you are pregnant, consuming raw milk – or foods made from raw milk, such as Mexican-style cheese like Queso Blanco or Queso Fresco – can harm your baby even if you don’t feel sick.”
Raw dairy has not been shown to be nutritionally different from pasteurized dairy. I don’t know about the taste, but is it worth the risk? It’s your decision, but be informed.
Leah says
Oh, and forgot to say, if you particularly feel like reading up on it and all the myths floating around about raw milk (and the studies that debunk them) as well as the dangers, this is a good page to read: http://www.fda.gov/Food/FoodSafety/Product-SpecificInformation/MilkSafety/ConsumerInformationAboutMilkSafety/ucm247991.htm

I laughed when I read this post because I just emailed my friends 2 days ago with this amazingly exciting news since I saw and purchased some of the items there over the weekend! They were not as excited as me, but I thought this was ground breaking. 🙂
I did buy the pasta sauce and haven’t tried it yet. We did however try the sweet potato corn chips and thought they were AMAZING! I would totally buy more from them if they carry more items. I didn’t have a chance to look around for the other items but will be back. I currently have a Costco membership to buy a lot of my organic products at and would switch to Aldi alone if they were price competitive and obviously I wouldn’t have to pay for my Costco membership either.
Thanks for posting this, I want them to keep it!

Unfortunately, the organic apple juice is still made from concentrate from China. 🙁
Emily says
In noticed this too and decided not to buy any of the little juice boxes for my son.

I was at Aldi today and was pleased to see the selection of organic products. Just a quick suggestion, though, to read the labels as carefully as you do any others, particularly if you’re concerned about sodium levels. I wish the Aldi canned organic diced tomatoes had been no salt added; I didn’t buy them because of the 220 mg. of sodium.
I stocked up on their organic low sodium chicken broth–32 oz for $1.69, a fabulous price. I’ll do my best to make sure that product stays on the shelves.
Jenny says
Is this actually organic food — as in USDA-certified organic, or is it just “all natural”? I can’t tell from the ad. They can say a food is “all natural” and still list whole foods as the main ingredients — but those whole foods can be laden with pesticides unless it’s certified USDA organic…just curious! Thanks!
Emily says
Jenny, it is USDA certified organic. I NEVER shop at Aldi, but when I saw this add last weekend in my paper, I decided to try it out. My store was out of the frozen organic berries and plain yogurt (the 2 things we would have used the most), but I was able to pick up the organic string cheese and raw cheddar cheese. I didn’t notice whether or not they had the butter. I haven’t tried any of it yet, but I have high hopes, because the prices were fantastic compared to my Kroger’s prices on organic, especially the frozen berries.
Lily says
The Simply Nature line is both non-organic items and organic items. When you are in the store, it is easier to see them clearly labeled.
celia says
Thank you, I was wondering that myself as I do not want to load up my kids to get there and find “natural” foods. I sent them an email to see if any stores near me are going to carry organics. This would be a GAME CHANGER!
Matti says
Just to clarify, the cheese is made with raw milk, so far as I know, you cannot actually purchase raw milk there on its own. However, our store (in NY), does carry Organic Valley Organic Milk in half gallon cartons, for $3.49. So far I’ve tried the organic raw milk cheddar cheese, which was very good, and the organic frozen strawberries and blueberries, which were both excellent. I’ve also had their organic canned tomatoes and one of their organic pasta sauces, and found them to both be tasty and high quality. They also have organic unsalted butter, but I have yet to try this.
I too am VERY excited about this and wish they would start carrying organic peanut butter and some organic fresh produce.
KimH says
The organic butter is the only thing I’ve seen at our store but I havent been shopping there other than to pick up a few specific things for about a month or so. Im looking forward to seeing more organics in our store!! Whoohoo!!
KimH says
Actually, organic butter is the only thing I’ve BOUGHT at our store… I did see organic milk there but didnt buy any… The butter is great!

I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across the organic products at Aldi last week. We LOVE Aldi and this makes it even better! I purchased organic chicken broth, organic yogurt, and organic frozen blueberries. All were OUTSTANDING!
Laura says
Their big containers of organic vanilla yogurt are a hit in our family! Just discovered them there last week at our Aldi’s.
Kassia says
They also have a couple new gluten free items! I bought the gluten free chicken nuggets this past week, just to have on hand for when we need something really quick for dinner. They are pretty good, I think they are tastier than the Ian’s brand and at about half the price!
Janet says
I saw this week’s ad and also got excited! I definitely will be going by there sometime this week to pick up some organic products. Remember that every time we purchase food, we are telling corporations what is important to us. I would LOVE if they sold organic milk and eggs in the future too. Definitely getting the raw cheese. I don’t go to our local Aldi often because their produce is of very poor quality.
Amy says
I can’t wait to try these new organic items. I was previously buying dairy there because their milk had no growth hormone in it and was the best price around. I already buy their frozen berries so i am thrilled about organic!
Mary G says
I’m very pleased about this. I’ve just started shopping at Aldi, as one was not convenient to me previously. I have bought the organic baby spinach a few times now, as well as some frozen strawberries. I’m hoping enough people buy these items at my store so that they will continue to carry them.
Siobhan @MoneyDearest says
I bought the Frozen Banana Bars the other day, they are ummm interesting!
august says
I wish they had raw milk in NC. They can’t sell it here either. I’m excited about the cheeses though! I can’t wait to see if ours is doing it.
Meredith says
They also had organic free trade chocolate there today. I stopped by earlier just to check out the organics. I didn’t need anything but I picked up the cheese for a snack. If they would get organic eggs and milk, I’d probably give all of my loyalty to them.
Fran Black says
Has anyone actually tried the products? Do you like them? I’ve only been in an ALDI once and never wanted to go back. It could just be the area of town in was located in…but the store was not the cleanest and the produce was practically rotten. There is a new one in a township nearby. I”m thinking about checking that one out.
Siobhan @MoneyDearest says
I hated going to Aldi’s when I was growing up, I didn’t want to step foot in the place I thought it was gross as well. My best friend made me go with her a few months ago and the place is a lot different than it use to be (totally different store, in a different state). I think overall they have cleaned up a lot of their stores and focus more on quality now.
With that being said there are some products I would never buy from there. I tried their ground beef just this week and it is not something I would buy again from there.
Kristine says
Perhaps some locations are better than others. Our Aldi is great. The produce is very good, and I’ve liked almost everything that I’ve bought there. I don’t usually buy meat at Aldi just because it’s not as cheap as our local grocery store’s meat when they run sales, but it looks fine as far as quality.
KimH says
The only organic product they’ve had in our store is the butter and it is great.. Im looking forward to seeing more products.
I agree.. Aldi produce used to be sub-par but its much much much better now.. Also, I wont buy fresh meat there nor the frozen hamburger, but the frozen meats other than the hamburger are all fantastic.. steaks, chicken, fish, shrimp.. you name it.. its great imo.
Brandi says
We buy the frozen ground turkey and chicken all the time 😀
thebargainbabe says
must have been your part of town. the aldi I go to is really clean and has FANTASTIC produce. got my husband some grapefruit for .29 each, he said they were incredible…oranges we got a bag of ten for $1.50 and they are good too.
Jenn says
Here’s a tip for Aldi: always shop soon after they open! Makes ALL the difference for the produce. They get a new truck every AM, but it gets picked over quickly, so if you go any other time of the day, mostly what is left are the rejects. I get most of our produce at Aldi now.
Blessed Mama says
Wow, that is awesome! Thanks for posting- we will check it out.
Marie says
In Mn. they rolled out this line a few weeks ago and the manager has had trouble keeping it in stock because people LOVE it!!!
I was just talking to him today about fresh herbs and he suggests people contact Aldi’s to let them know there is an interest in it.
Brandi says
Fresh herbs would be amazing!
Whitney says
My Aldi has fresh herbs often, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen people buying them.
Marlene says
I am excited about this and not totally surprised. Aldi and Trader Joe’s are owned by the same company, and you can definitely tell by the products Aldi has been been stocking. I just got some organic apples there yesterday (at Aldi’s, that is) – yippee!!
Marsha says
Aldi and Trader Joe’s are “sort of” operated by the same company, but not quite. TJs is owned by a trust which is in turn owned by Aldi Nord, which runs the Aldi locations in certain parts of Germany and Europe. Aldi Sud is the company that runs Aldi locations in the US and the remaining parts of Germany and Europe. The two companies operate independently of each other although they do join forces for the purposes of some sourcing. It’s probably more accurate to say that U.S. Aldi locations and Trader Joe’s are like cousins than siblings. 🙂 (I’m getting my business-school geek on because it’s more fun than what I’m supposed to be doing – please don’t hold it against me!!)
Interestingly, several friends of mine shop at Aldi Sud locations and claim them to be very superior to those owned by Aldi Nord so even within the “Aldi Shopper” community there are differences of opinion. Members of the Albrecht family are among the richest in the world, so they must be doing something right!
Kelly says
I’ll have to check our Aldi as this is exciting! In PA it is illegal to sell raw milk except through co-ops/shares, so that unfortunately won’t change here. Can’t wait to see.
Sarah T. says
I used to live in PA and would get raw milk all the time. Unless they’ve changed the laws in the last 6 months. I know of several places between Harrisburg and Myerstown.
Kelly says
I don’t think the law has changed that recently, the Department of Agriculture is apparently just enforcing it more. At the place we used to get raw milk, the Department of Ag shut down their sales (we were there when the rep was) and now they have to have a sign on the cooler door stating raw milk is only for sale to co-op/shareholders. When we get out to the Lancaster region we buy it there, but I hope they don’t get fined in the near future!

http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2012/12/raw-milk-is-making-people-sick-in-pennsylvania-stores-pull-it-from-shelves/#.UPa-uaDW0ck
“Retail sales of raw milk are legal in Pennsylvania. State law requires that any raw milk sold in the state come from cows certified by the Agriculture Department as being in good physical condition and disease-free. Cows must be tested for brucellosis and tuberculosis at least once a year and milk is tested for bacterial limits.”
Kelly says
Thanks Sarah : ) Maybe the people who had to pull it didn’t have their cows tested/documented and that’s why…Thanks again for the info.
Emily says
I don’t think its raw milk… its raw milk CHEESE.
Amanda says
Thanks for sharing this!! I’m looking forward to checking out their organic products — looks like great prices from what I can see in the photo there. 🙂
Amanda T says
I did see a few raw items in the refrigerated section of our Aldi. I thought it had to have been a mistake 🙂

We just saw this too! SO excited!!!!!!
