4 Weeks to a More Organized Home {Simplified}: Day 2

by Crystal on November 06, 2012

Welcome to 4 Weeks to a More Organized Home {Simplified}!

From November 5 to December 7 (skipping the week of Thanksgiving), every weekday morning at 9 a.m. EST, I’ll be posting the day’s assignment and then every evening at 6 p.m. EST, I’ll be posting my progress and pictures, along with a link-up for you to share your progress and pictures, too.

Day 2 Assignment

::Get dressed in something that makes you feel great {there’s something about dressing in clothes that make you feel great that just gives you more energy and zest for life!}

::Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, refer to your list of weekly goals, and make a list of no more than 5-7 specific things you want to accomplish today.

::Set the timer for 10 minutes and do a quick-clean of your kitchen: wash the dishes/load the dishwasher, clear off the counter tops, and, if you have time, wipe down the counter tops and the outside of the cupboards with wet rag or cleaning cloth.

::Set the timer for 10 minutes and do a quick clean of your refrigerator. Remove all the contents that are past their prime, wipe down the sticky spots, and re-organize things so they are easier to get to. If you have more time, there’s a step-by-step guide for cleaning out your refrigerator here.

Take pictures of your accomplishments and blog about them, if you’d like. And then come back here at 6 p.m. EST to share your progress posts or tell us about your accomplishments in a comment.

Are you joining me today?

Cleaning the fridge was a weekly goal this week!

  • Chanda November 06, 2012 at 09:52 am

Loving the simplified version of this! It is perfect for the busyness of life this month.

  • Maria November 06, 2012 at 09:56 am

I read the daily assignment when I get to work and will do it after work each day….my timeline may be different, but I should accomplish everything each day! Thank you for this!!

    • Wendy November 06, 2012 at 05:23 pm

Fridge, cleaned. Actually broke while on vacation last week so thru everything out, waiting on new fridge. Also did the dishes while kids were getting ready for school! Thanks for these easy assignments.

Yeah! I did it! 2 days in a row! Great day for the fridge, garbage day! Thanks for the motivation to do the things I need to do anyway. Somehow this is more motivating and rewarding!

I missed this yesterday, but I’m excited about this. I was just thinking last week that I’d like to go back and do this [original] series this fall, and here’s a simplified version of it. I should be able to do this one and yesterday’s assignment today. Yay!

  • Tabitha November 06, 2012 at 11:55 am

I just cleaned it on Friday. :-)

I am always amazed at how getting dressed in something that makes you feel good boosts your mood. :)

    Happy cleaning!

I did part of the kitchen task today, but the dishwasher and dishes are the responsibilty of the kids so that has to wait until oldest get home from school.

One of the smartest moves I ever made was making “clean the fridge/freezer” one of my 17 yr old daughter’s chores. She does it every Friday. That has made a HUGE difference in our house!! No more sticky yuk in the frig for weeks on end…no more science experiments growing in there either!!

  • Elizabeth Kane November 06, 2012 at 12:49 pm

Just cleaned the kitchen and made a plan of action “to-dos” for today.

I’m using your wake up to a clean kitchen sink idea from your book the past week, and it’s making kitchen cleanup *much* easier to handle. It’s always been a stress area for me in the morning, but now I’m slowly getting it under control! Thank you, Crystal :)

I have to admit I skipped this one last time but I can do 10 minutes today. I am already dress and have my to do list, I actually made my to do list up last night.

  • Candi November 06, 2012 at 12:58 pm

LOVE this series! It couldn’t come at a better time because I definitely need to do some organizing. :-)

  • Kayla P @ Practicing Prudence November 06, 2012 at 03:10 pm

I am really liking how simple these tasks really are! It took me and my oldest daughter 10 minutes to do both the cabinets and the fridge! :)

    • Crystal November 06, 2012 at 03:21 pm

      Woot! Way to go!

  • Amy November 06, 2012 at 03:20 pm

Well, I’m going to flip flop. Cleaned the frig yesterday, because it needed it, so ill clean out my diaper bag today :) . Love this!

  • Angela November 06, 2012 at 03:47 pm

Whoa, are you peeking at my house?? :) My purse and fridge are two things that I have been meaning to clean out, but just keep putting off. I am always amazed how little time these tasks actually take, it’s mostly just me procrastinating and turning a mole hill into a mountain! Thank you for the motivation!

  • Marie November 06, 2012 at 05:03 pm

I did it!!! I was a little frustrated because I couldn’t figure out how to get the shelves and drawers out but figure it’s cleaner then it’s been!!! I took everything out, condensed leftovers, and cleaned it all! It felt so good and didn’t take to long!

  • LG November 06, 2012 at 08:01 pm

Sandy made this task so much easier. Anything that wasn’t eaten has been tossed, so not much to do!

  • Deborah Auen November 06, 2012 at 08:47 pm

A successful day……very busy….squeezed in things from list here and there, kitchen & fridge done looking forward to tomorrow….Thank you

  • Vanessa November 07, 2012 at 06:18 am

I cleaned the freezer and fridge after the hurricane, so that’s done!
