Wow. We should all teach that to our children! Their lives will be much more fulfilling if they do not seek men’s applause.
Soooo True! I blogged about a topic very similar to this called It’s Not about You Anyways. http://aparkspot.weebly.com/index.html
I’d argue that the “dream” you chase just for the applause actually isn’t even your “dream” if that’s your only reason to chase it. (Maybe the applause is your dream, which is why you stop chasing that dream when it stops.)
Instead of chasing dreams, I ask people to chase their passions – the things they already do for free – and just start monetizing them like others do.
Jon Acuff is great if anyone hasn’t heard of him before.
So true! I’ve actually had to stop and ask myself before why I was doing something… and if it’s so someone will be proud of me, not so I will be proud of me, I rarely end up sticking with it.
Oh, no. I thought that said “applesauce” not applause. Why would I quit dreaming when we run out of applesauce? I think I need a nap this afternoon.
I thought it was applesauce, too! I thought, “Well, this is stupid. I hate applesauce!”
Share some of that nap, will ya? =D
I think the last sentence is the best part. Approval is a terrible fuel for dreams.
Love this! Thank you for posting. Very wise words…
This is exactly the dilemma that I am going through with my blog right now…thank you…
