A Peek Into Our Week

FavoriteLoadingAdd to my favorites

by Crystal on January 29, 2012

My dad got free tickets for a basketball game, so we took all of the children last Saturday evening.

It was a great game–especially since our team won by an onslaught!–and we all had fun!

For Kathrynne’s birthday, I took the children to an indoor play place with inflatable slides and trampolines.

We’d been before when they’d offered a Groupon deal and Kathrynne said this was the one thing she really was hoping to do for her birthday.

They all had a blast!

Birthday cake at Grandma & Grandpa’s house–I can’t believe she seven now!

The girls are continuing to love their ice skating lessons–and they were excited to have me join them in the free skate time today.

So that’s a little peek into our week. Did anything exciting or interesting happen at your house this past week?

We attended two birthday parties today! One at Chuck E. Cheese and for the other we went to paint pottery! It was fun, but I came home and HAD to take a nap! :) It was a great week. I also found a few ways to get more organized.

Martha Artyomenko January 29, 2012 at 1:29 am

That looks like a fun week! My boys played a lot of basketball this last fall and my second son is still doing games right now. He is really enjoying it. We also went ice skating with the homeschoolers locally, but somehow….I am not sure how, the boys all naturally just knew how to skate and are fairly good, although probably not figure skating material! = )

Jadzia @ Toddlerisms January 29, 2012 at 4:58 am

This probably doesn’t count as either exciting OR interesting, but I finally found the time to set up a family schedule to help stop work time bleeding into every other part of life. I am looking forward to seeing how it works and taking advantage of the free time I scheduled in to get out of the house with the kids more often!

MomofTwoPreciousGirls January 29, 2012 at 9:44 am

That was was probably fun for you, knowing it will make family life easier!

rachel B. January 30, 2012 at 11:48 am

good for you!!!!

Jessica Frankie January 29, 2012 at 6:09 am

Yes, many funny things happened to me this week. I found lots of cat food coupons this week and used them to get food for my 4 cats. It’s super awesome when they are happy.
After that we/my family and my grandparents were at Red Lobster and eat very good. It was my hubby’s birthday party.
I love life!!!!

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Coupons January 29, 2012 at 7:50 am

I can’t believe she’s seven either! I remember her birth announcement on the YWAIC boards. Happy birthday, Kathrynne!

This past week I worked my final night shifts at the hospital (I’m a nurse). I switch to day shift tomorrow, so I go from staying up all night to waking up at 5am! I’m looking forward to getting things done during “normal-people hours.”

Allyson @ A Heart for Home January 29, 2012 at 8:10 am

We’ve had a very productive week. I fit in some crafting time and made some cute earrings out of t-shirt scraps. I enjoyed making delicious chocolate frosting “shots” (and drinking them). We also spent a late night with some good friends. And the laundry baskets were empty for an entire 6 hours and the house was spotless all in one day!

Amber @ SIMoneySavers January 29, 2012 at 9:09 am

The most exciting thing that happened for us this week is our oldest daughter got her license yesterday. However I think she is more excited than we are. :)

It’s hard to believe our baby is old enough to have a license.

Super Saving Coupon Son January 29, 2012 at 9:28 am

Great! That sounded like alot of fun Crystal! I’m sure your girls really enjoyed it.

Courtney January 29, 2012 at 9:29 am

We got a 2-month-old puppy from the Humane Society. We’ve always adopted older or “hard-to-adopt” dogs, but just once, while our kids are still young, we wanted them to experience the fun of having a puppy. The kids (and the puppy) have been having a blast!

MomofTwoPreciousGirls January 29, 2012 at 10:09 am

Crystal, did the younger kids do well sitting through the basketball game? I have wondered about bringing the kids to something like that or the circus but worried they would not sit through it for long (ending up being a waste of money).

Mine are 4 and 2.5…

Stephanie January 29, 2012 at 10:22 am

Yeah, I worry about that, too. My boys are 2.5 years old and I would have loved to take them to the circus this year but, the thought of trying to keep then in their seats and getting then to actually watch just gave me a headache. In the end, we decided to skip it.

Stephanie January 29, 2012 at 10:23 am

Argh-that should read “them“! Darn Swype!

Audra January 29, 2012 at 3:04 pm

Last summer we took our then almost two year old to a baseball game….he loved it! He even watched the game…helps that he watches it with his dad on tv. He is incredibly active so we made sure to give him room to move and I had snacks, etc. We also walked him around a few times. We also went with the mindset that we would leave if he wasn’t doing well. We didn’t have to though!

Christy January 29, 2012 at 6:09 pm

We have not gone to an indoor sporting event. But we have gone to minor league baseball games. They have lots of fun activities and jump castles and such. We have also gone to several of our college alma marred football games but it is a FCS school. We purposefully buy tickets on the endzone because it is next to a hill that the kids all slide.down on cardboard. I think going to smaller scale athletic events is the key. There tends to be more space to roam. Don’t plan on being able to pay attention to the game all the time. My 4 year old is interested in learning about football but the attention span only lasts so long. The minor league baseball stadium in my hometown even has a playground in it. I think the small-scale athletic events tend to be more family friendly.

Tracy Yearout-Snedeker January 29, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Looks like fun : ) My Sister used to drive her son up from Hutch to that ice skating rink every weekend for hockey practice.

Priscilla January 29, 2012 at 1:07 pm

Just curious. Do you do birthday parties for your kids where you invite other kids their age or is it just a celebration with family?

Sarah January 29, 2012 at 1:45 pm

I can believe she is seven either I too remember her birth announcement!
The all grow up so fast , The youngest of my older once is now 21 I have an entire second set of kids that are still at home the youngest of that group is only 3.5 but they do grow fast and you have to enjoy every second and do not let work steal that time from your family and children as they are grown and gone before you know it. If they choose to go military then you rarely see them as well, or as in the case of two of my older ones they donate time to peace corp so we rarely see them as well. Life is way to short enjoy it ladies!

Sara January 29, 2012 at 2:15 pm

We attended a birthday party at Pump it Up yesterday! It was really fun and very well organized–any place that requires kids use hand sanitizer before leaving gets points from me ;)

Lana January 29, 2012 at 3:42 pm

We had a very sad week. A family friend, homeschool mom of 6 with 2 children still at home was diagnosed with stage 3/4 brain cancer. It’s been hard to understand but we know that our God is still in control.

Willa@ArmstrongFamilyFare January 29, 2012 at 4:00 pm

We had a very exciting week. We found a new to us minivan that met our requirements and we paid CASH!!! :) Very fun and exciting!

The ice skating lessons sound like so much fun! When I was a kid I always wanted to take lessons, but it wasn’t realistic considering how far away the nearest skating rink was!

Diana January 29, 2012 at 4:37 pm

Photos look great! Are they with your new camera? :)

Rhonda January 29, 2012 at 5:11 pm

Hi! Looks like you all are able to enjoy some great family time!. I just saw your article on Fox business news. Awesome! Congratulations.

Rhonda

Cheryl January 29, 2012 at 5:36 pm

One beautiful daughter had a 12th bday and my other beautiful daughter made 7th grade cheerleader and cheered at her first basketball game. (It’s true – once your kids hit school age, time goes so fast!)

I was also first at our library to check out Crystal’s new book and just started reading it last night!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Liz January 29, 2012 at 6:31 pm

I tore my Achilles tendon and had surgery on it! On crutches for at least six weeks :( . Not much fun…

Becky January 29, 2012 at 6:55 pm

Oh wow – Kathrynne really looks like you.

Marsha January 29, 2012 at 7:34 pm

Our biggest event was that my oldest got a concussion while skiing! He’s out of school at least three weeks while he heals. Luckily, my husband and I are blessed with the resources – familial, community, professional, and financial – to care for him. Note to all MSM readers: SKI HELMETS! He was wearing one and his injury would have been catastrophic without. Safety gear is NOT where you want to save money.

Other than that, it’s been a quiet week. Our youngest’s birthday is coming up this week, so I’m planning a nice family dinner for her to help make up the lack of fun during her brother’s convalescence. She picked the menu: homemade mac-n-cheese, green salad, fruit salad, and ice cream cake. She’s such a dear that I’m anxious to make it happen for her.

DeniseHJ January 30, 2012 at 8:32 am

My oldest daughter suffered a concussion this fall. Word of Advice…if your doctor hasn’t ordered it yet, ask for a referral to a concussion clinic. We went to reg doctor who thought her concussion would last 1 week (she didn’t hit her head…it was a decelleration injury in gymnastics). 2 1/1 weeks later she is still suffering a lot of symptoms. Finally got to a concussion clinic and they gave much more detailed order for her activities (or lack thereof) and most importantly for her teachers and schoolwork. Without these, she and her teachers were expecting way to much of her. Recovery excellerated when properly treated.

DeniseHJ January 30, 2012 at 8:33 am

oops…way too much of her and her recovery accellerated (not excellarated!)

Wendy Jahns January 29, 2012 at 8:59 pm

I’m glad you had a great busy week. We didn’t do much, except I did organized my budget for this year. I hope to be more active this coming week. Have a great week Crystal!

Shannon Johnson January 29, 2012 at 9:38 pm

My two kiddos had hockey games this weekend! My 9 year old daugher is a goalie and they played 2 games this weekend one against another girls team and today they played a boys team and they won both of their games. My 5 year old son had a game today and he made a goal and an assist! So proud of my hockey stars!!

Blaire January 29, 2012 at 11:18 pm

moved my baby boy out of his crib and into a toddler race car bed just like his big brother’s! and now they are sharing a room together, and my daughter (6) gets her own room again! and she has another loose tooth.

Dawn(Large Family Mom) January 29, 2012 at 11:23 pm

I got back on track with my exercise this week after being sick the week before. And we got all our schoolwork done. My 17 yr old daughter helped a lady from church clean a 3 story house to get it ready to rent.

And 4 of my children got baptized today!!! They have been waiting and were so excited. Then our 7 yr old little girl went forward to make her faith public. What a blessed day we had today!!

Amber January 30, 2012 at 7:34 am

How wonderful!!

Kathleen January 29, 2012 at 11:33 pm

I read your book, and started implementing some of what I learned. Thanks! Also set up my own blog, woot!!!

Alysha January 29, 2012 at 11:34 pm

That really looks like a great week. =) I went to Discovery Place in Charlotte today and would highly recommend it to anyone with small children. I have spent all of my free time this week creating a new blog/website. Check it out if you have time. http://aparkspot.weebly.com/ I can tell I’m going to have to reign myself in from spending my WHOLE life in digital world, and not enough time in the real world.

Tara G. January 30, 2012 at 4:40 am

I was able to sneak out of the house and meet my husband for lunch this week! Love those little dates in the middle of the day!

Tyler S. January 30, 2012 at 5:22 am

Let’s see, this past week, I had a great time hitting the golf course (mostly the woods and water hazards) with some college friends!

Leanne January 30, 2012 at 7:04 am

we had basketball, birthday parties, an adoption fundraising dinner, and a sunday school teacher appreciation dinner! Thanks to your recommendation of Project Life, I’m taking a lot more pictures and enjoying watching my children in the moment!

Paula January 30, 2012 at 7:04 am

Well hubby worked a lot this past week, but the kids and I managed to fit in a fun night of making our own homemade pizza! Very fun for the kids & I got the leftovers! Yummy!

Sharon January 30, 2012 at 8:06 am

Sports can be great family time, can’t they! We aren’t big sports enthusiasts, but when we were given tickets to a San Francisco Giants game we had such a great time! We do make special events of special games at our house, like the Super Bowl this Sunday! In fact, I just posted about that.

Kim @Going Thrifty January 30, 2012 at 8:31 am

We celebrated birthdays at our house as well. One of them was for our new daughter from Ethiopia who has never had the privilege of knowing it was her birthday. I blogged about it here : http://www.goingthrifty.com/2012/01/28/january-a-look-back/

BTW…the ice skating looks like fun!

Courtney @centsablelady January 30, 2012 at 9:01 am

We took the kids to the zoo to see the Wildlife experience. They loved it!

Also we started a no TV during the school week rule. My 6 year old’s imagination will definitely explode.

rachel B. January 30, 2012 at 11:52 am

okay Crystal…please share what settings you have on your camera or what program used for editing the photos!!! They are precious!!! I just love the color effects and the lighting and how it all captures such great images.
If ANYONE has info on how to do this with pictures – please share!
I’m starting up a new blog for my kid craft business (busybagcentral.blogspot.com) and need lots of help capturing photos and making them professional and creative like Miss Crystal has here! Love it. Love. It.
(THANKS!)

Crystal January 30, 2012 at 11:54 am

It’s all with Instagram on my phone–love it!

Smiths January 30, 2012 at 12:40 pm

We tried for 6 months for baby 2 and went to specialists to start the process. Imagine the shock of me and doc when we found out I am 5 weeks pregnant.
Hurrayyyyyyy……… My first pregnancy Was smooth. But this one I am getting morning sickness. Donno how long it’s stays

Crystal January 30, 2012 at 12:46 pm

Woot! Yay!!! {And I’m sorry about the morning sickness. :( }

Lisa January 30, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Congratulations!! I had all-day sickness and it started to fade around week 11 for me. I understand it’s different for each woman, but I hope yours goes away early, too!

Lisa January 30, 2012 at 12:52 pm

We’re accumulating baby stuff (first baby due in May!). Generous friends and family members are giving us things like a vibrating chair, a swing, a port-a-crib, a nearly-new crib mattress, even a breast pump! And this weekend, my husband made two great finds at a garage sale: a nearly-new high chair for $20 (retails for $120) and a well-made wooden glider for $15!!

Mary January 30, 2012 at 9:37 pm

Celebrated my son’s 4th birthday and my daughter’s 5th birthday with a party at a bounce place! Great fun! Way too much cake!

Carrie @ My Favorite Finds February 1, 2012 at 1:44 pm

We did a Groupon for Pump It Up…and indoor inflatable by our house, and the kids LOVED it! We also have an indoor trampoline park where I booked our twins 9th birthday in a few weeks. Can’t wait for that!
