I love new school supplies just as much as the next person. This time of year I find myself stocking up on what seems like an endless supply of pens, tape, and post-its.
However, I was able to pick up so many great deals that I had more than I needed. So I decided to put together “Back-to-School” kits for the teachers at my son’s school along with a note wishing them well for the up coming school year.
In each bag I included:
3 10-packs of BIC pens
1 2-pack of Black Sharpie markers
1 Scotch Magic Tape
3 packs of Post-It NotesEverything was free after coupons! I attached a note to each bag that read, “Wishing You A Wonderful School Year!” -Ashley

I always do a First Day Survival Kit for my kids’ teachers…I put in it….candy baar, breath mints/gum/bubble bath, travel size Tylenol/Advil/Aspirin, soda/bottled water, bag of m&m’s…

I put it in a simple brown paper lunch sack…write on the front in marker, FIRST DAY SURVIVAL KIT….fold over the top,then punch 2 holes up top and tie a ribbon in the holes. It is cute, and very simple.
I’m a teacher and I’ve never heard of anyone doing this, but I think it’s brilliant! I would be so thankful if someone did this for me! How thoughtful!
I am a teacher also, and would love for one of my students to do this too…ha. But I always send things like this to my 3 kids’ teachers…very thoughtful and a great way to help them get through the first day…it is one of the hardest days of the year.
If you’re sending medicine, just make sure that you deliver them and don’t send them with your child. Most schools have a zero tolerance policy on students having any medications, even over-the-counter types, in their possession – even if it is for such a thoughtful and kind reason. In our district’s policy, technically even cough drops are illegal. What a wonderful idea though! I will be doing something similar this year also. Thanks for the inspiration.
I was going to say the same thing. You don’t want to get your kid expelled over a gift. The aspirin could get your kid expelled in our district too. One of my friends kids, who is in high school, got into serious trouble for having her own advil for cramps. But before I go off on a tangent about zero tolerance policies I’ll stop and say just make sure you know before you send medications with your kids, even if it’s innocent.
That’s awesome!! And pretty amazing you got it all free, must be an expert couponer like me! I keep them until the date they expire, I know everything goes on sale eventually!! lol Great idea!!
What a great idea! I work in a school (not as a teacher, but a sign language interpreter for deaf students in their mainstream classrooms) and I can say for certain any of the teachers I work with would be thrilled with a gift like that. Last summer I picked up a lot of pencils and then shared them with a few of my colleges for their students who were always forgetting to bring one to class. I spent 10 cents/pack, but it made the teachers day! Can’t say the same for the students who then had no excuse not to do their work
Oh, quick question, where are you finding free Post It’s? I’m almost out! Been using staples brand, but they just don’t stick as well as the Super Sticky Post It’s! Thanks!

What a great idea! As a classroom teacher, I can say I would LOVE to receive something so practical as a gift – particularly when, if I need those items, I often have to purchase them out of my own pocket! Very thoughtful!

Ah yes, fellow teacher from WI- Milwaukee. It is certainly a hard time to be in this career path! So very frustrating to feel hated by our society. It would be amazing to get such a thoughtful gift from one of my students!
I am in Ohio and as the wife of a police officer I can relate to what the two of you are going through. Last year I made sure to let my daughter’s teacher know on several occasions how appreciated she was, simply because I knew how the politics in Ohio were affecting our law enforcement family. Please know that your efforts as a teacher are appreciated, even though it may not always feel like it, and those of us in Ohio are following Wisconsin closely.

Being a teacher, I would LOVE to get this as a gift, over any restaurant gift certificate. I can’t tell you how many times we run out of post its and black pens!!! This is the best gift ever!
What a thoughtful idea…you could use this for Sunday School teachers as well.
I am also a classroom teacher and I would love to receive a gift like this. Those are items that are easily (and quickly) used up during the school year. I’m sure your child’s teacher will be very appreciative.
I have made similar kits before, and also tied one of those cute Antibacterial hand sanitizers from bath and body works onto the ribbon! Kids spread a lot of germs around, so I know the teachers love hand sanitizer!

If you have extras, you might consider sending some to the teachers in Joplin. I am from there and one of my good friends lost her home and the school where she taught 2nd grade. I know there are MANY teachers there who will be needing basic supplies like this, but may not be able to purchase them out of their own pockets because they are struggling to rebuild their homes as well as their classrooms.
Great reminder! My mother’s neighbor’s son works in Joplin and she sent all her couponing free school supplies to him…. He won’t even have books for the first few months of school… It will be a tough year for them teaching out of stores in the mall and anything they can get would be so appreciated!

I have done this for my daughter’s preschool teacher with art supplies. Recently I gave her about $200 of perler beads that I knew we would not use. Instead, 12 little people can go to town having fun!
Just wanted to share too that lots of Christian organizations & orphanages would be thrilled to get these things too! Some that come to mind are Voice of the Martyrs, Christian Aid Ministries, Operation Christmas Child, missionaries, etc. Thanks for sharing!
Again, as a a teacher, I can say I’d be pretty excited to get a gift like this! As was mentioned above, these are the items that usually have to come out of my own pocket, so help is always appreciated! Your son’s teachers are fortunate to have you!

I was wondering the same thing! I’ve followed the deal for the other items to be free, but I was like a puppy with perked up ears when I saw the free post its! Teachers, like me, love post its!

When I want a coupon I go to the website of the product. If there are coupons available they most likely will be on the website.

They are $1 off coupons, so it makes them FREE at stores like Walmart. There is no printing limit, but I didn’t go too crazy

As a teacher, I would LOVE this, that’s why I stock up on these things (even though I don’t have my own kids) I use them for my students all year long (the pen/pencil battle is not one I want to fight, so I just give them out!)

I LOVE this idea!! My daughter is starting 1st grade in a new school this year, and I’d love to start off the year on such a positive note! Who doesn’t love FREE stuff…especially our teachers who end up spending so much of their own money to teach our children! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you for this idea! I picked up two cheap medium sized gift bags and have started filling them after a stop at Walgreens today! I am also including dry erase markers, kleenex, eraser caps, index cards, hand sanitizer, and highlighters. Some of this I already had, some I had leftover from last year’s school shopping. Oh and since Walgreens has the bags of lifesavers B1G1 free, I got each teacher a bag of those also
I LOVED this idea so much. I just made one too… I included some hand sanitizer from my stash also. (I use those as fillers sometimes.) Where is everyone getting the free post its?
