A Turtle’s Life shows how she made 46 freezer meals in four hours for about $95. I’m thoroughly impressed and inspired!

Smiths or Kroger has marked down meats, not quite that cheap, those are amazing prices, but usually before 11 am every day….

After 7pm for me.

I live in the Dallas, Texas area and at Albertsons they often have great meat mark downs. We are always buying ground turkey 85%/15% for less than $1 per pound. They frequently market their ground turkey down to $10 for 10, you have to buy all 10, but that’s really not that much, each package is just over a pound. Recently they had some pork and chicken buy 1 get 2 free. Alberstons are only in a few states, including, CA, TX, WA, ID, FL, and CO.
Rae says
Really? I am in the DFW area as well and didn’t realize Albertsons was good for meat. It would help if they would send us their stinkin ad (we are only one town over and only have 2 groceries in our town including Walmart so you’d think they’d send it to us). I’m not a fan of them because I hate the layout of the store but I have been there like 3 times. I went last summer when they had that Keebler/poptarts/etc deal because I had heard about it online.

I bought a deep freeze a few months ago and so far I’ve only been able to store extra meat in it (but I’ve run across some pretty good meat deals so that is awesome!). Yesterday I did my first freezer cooking session; I made burritos and the carrot pumpkin muffins that were posted on here. The family LOVES the muffins! I had never made anything from scratch like that before, but it didn’t take a long time surprisingly. Looking forward to doing more freezer cooking and getting my freezer filled up with delicious meals!
Oh, and there’s no way I would get meat prices like that around here. There are too many people who wait in line for the store to open so they can rush in and get the discounted meat for me to ever be able to get in on that, especially dragging around a newborn and a toddler. I just do the best I can 🙂

Thank you for the post, Im going out of town to visit my mom for 3 weeks, I’ll use this to prepare some meals for my husband.

I absolutely love this! I’ve done freezer cooking before but not like this! That’s incredible! And I haven’t seen meat price mark downs like that in a long time, but if I had the store would be wiped out! lol
peever says
Those are insane prices for meat! None of our grocery stores do markdowns on anything. I have no idea what they do with the food that’s about to expire, but I’d give anything if they had a markdown area!

Thanks SO much for sharing my post! You have some awesome readers! And, yes, Monica, my low cost is absolutely because of those meat sales! But even if my store didn’t have these incredible sales, I still think it’s cheaper to buy in bulk and split your package up!

Wondering is you wouldn’t mind sharing what store you shopped at? Just moved to PA a couple of weeks ago and trying to find the best deal on groceries. Thanks!
Sherri says
The tags show Giant, so it could be either Giant (based in Carlisle, PA) or Martin’s, which is in the same family of stores. We have a Martin’s here and the markdown stickers look the same. I recently got ground turkey for super cheap there, but that is not a usual thing. She definitely got an awesome deal!
Ashley says
Thanks for letting me know Sherri! I found a Martins close to me. Went there this morning. Not as good as she got but I was able to get a few better buys on meat! Thanks for taking the time to help me!
Natalie says
Hi Ashley! I could have sworn I replied to you yesterday, but now I don’t see it so maybe I’m imagining things! Sorry, if you thought I left you hanging! Some of the meat was from Giant, but I normally find the best deals at Weis! I think it’s definitely store-by-store, though, as I know some family shop at a Weis not far from me and their deals aren’t quite as good! Good luck!

I think she surely must live in PA. She mentioned being near chocolate world and that was a grocery store they have in PA and NY. We used to live in NY and my husband is from PA. I have NEVER seen meat prices that cheap in that store before. Wow! PA is more affordable on food prices though and they have more discount stores for groceries too. Wow! That meat was the healthy kind too! I am so impressed!!!
The freezer cooking was impressive too. We just don’t have that much freezer space. I would love to be able to put that much in my freezer.
I have done a meal prep place before like someone mentioned above, I did it while my husband was deployed several years ago in hopes to motivate me to eat at home more. The different meals were not really what I liked very much, just made differently, so there is something that is to be said for making your own meals the way you like them plus it is a lot cheaper.

I too am very jealous of those AMAZING meat prices! Those mark-downs are unheard of at the stores I shop at. Good for her, that is awesome. Oh well, all I can do, is do the best I can with the deals I can find. 🙂
Nicole says
I wish my stores had meat mark downs like that!!! Even marked down I’m still paying 3.00 to 4.00 for good items.

Thanks for sharing! Great motivation to try to do this even more!

If you want to save money with freezer cooking, consider starting a club where several ladies meet once a month and prepare their meals together, sharing ingredients. It’s cheaper this way because if you plan it correctly, you don’t have extra ingredients you won’t use later left over. We did this in my Sunday School class at church. We even considered a name–The Frozen Chosen!
Cassy says
I;m actually planning on starting something like that this summer! Not only is it a cheaper way to eat, but it is much more fun to cook when you are spending time with friends while doing it!

I went to her site just awesome.

Holy cow!! I am in total awe!! Not only of the prices but of the massive amount of food she created in such a short time. You go girl. Freezer cooking is such a great tool not only to save time, money, and your sanity, but to also eat healthy and lose weight. Which is one of the main reason why I use it so I always have ready prepared meals to choose from.
I love these posts!!! Thanks so much for sharing!

I noticed the prices on the meat for $1.00. I suppose the huge markdown in the meat prices largely attributed to her low cost for the meals. Unfortuntly, there are no meat sales like that here. Good idea though.
Rochelle says
Love it! I’m inspired to try freezer cooking. I’m going to buy the book she suggested!
Rae says
Wow those are some amazing meat markdowns. I never buy markdown meat here because the prices are WAY higher than waiting for the loss leader sales. But shoot if I had those prices at my store, I’d actually buy them and we might eat a little more meat!
Ashley says
Seriously AMAZING!!!
Meredith Phillips says
Wow! I wish my freezer could hold that much stuff! But apartment living doesn’t allow for massive freezer space. Oh, well. I usually buy chicken and beef in bulk and just freeze it in serving sizes to save money. Maybe I can do a mini version of this over the summer.

Now that’s impressive! Thanks for the encouragement.

I’ve always wanted to try Dream Dinners….It’s a company who sets up all the ingredients and you get to prepare your freezer meals yourself but they are SO expensive! This post gives me the inspiration to do this myself at home saving a great deal of money….and time…..THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!
