Course Bread, Side Dish
Cuisine Mexican
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 12 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 5 tablespoons salted butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup hot water

Instructions

  • In a medium size bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add butter, then pour in hot water.
  • Stir until the dough starts to come together.
  • Place the dough on a floured surface and knead with your hands for 1-2 minutes, or until it forms a smooth ball.
  • Put dough back in the bowl, cover dough with a damp towel, and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 12-14 pieces and roll each one into a ball (they don’t have to be perfect).
  • Use a rolling pin or tortilla press to flatten each ball into an 8-inch circle.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add a little olive oil, then place a tortilla in the pan.
  • Cook for 30-60 seconds until bubbles form on the surface.
  • Flip and cook for another 30 seconds until lightly golden.
  • Transfer to a plate and cover with a towel.
  • Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  • Enjoy warm or save for later!
