This summer, I’m taking the Get Your Pretty On Summer Style Challenge.
So far, I’m loving this challenge and can’t believe how much it’s encouraging me to get dressed in a cute outfit every day, try some new outfit pairings, and just enjoy putting together looks. Plus, I LOVE the Facebook Group where women share their own variation of each day’s outfit.
I thought it would be fun to share a round-up of my outfits from this past week in hopes that it might inspire you with ideas and or encourage you to take a little time to mix and match items you already have to create some cute outfits!
(Want to see more outfits? See last week’s What I Wore post.)
Here’s what I wore this past week:
I wore a dress for the third time in two weeks!!! I think that dresses are growing on me, thanks to this GYPO Style Challenge and your encouragement on my daily outfit of the day posts.
Dress: Amazon
Jewelry: Kohl’s Clearance Rack
Shoes: Zulily
I really, really like this dress. It’s not practical for every day wear, but it was perfect for Sunday morning!
Okay, a big thing I’ve discovered from taking pictures every day of my outfits is that I have a bad habit of pairing dressy tops with casual bottoms. And I don’t like how it looks.
But I didn’t realize this until I started taking pictures of my outfits! Which is one of the many reasons this has been such a good experiment for me to do!
Shirt: Amazon
Shorts: Stitch Fix
Shoes: Amazon
Necklace: Kohl’s Clearance Rack
I love this outfit! Jesse and I went on a date on Tuesday evening and went to this fun place called Homestead Manor, where he took this picture of me.
Shirt: Amazon — no longer available
Jeans: Stitch Fix
Jewelry: Kohl’s Clearance Rack
Shoes: Zulily
I think I really like this outfit, too! It was supposed to be a blue and white striped shirt for the GYPO Style Challenge, but I don’t have one, so I subbed this tee.
And I got crazy brave and wore YELLOW shoes, as per the encouragement of Alison who put together the GYPO Style Challenge! I don’t even know when the last time is that I’ve worn yellow!!! And I shocked myself by actually liking them!
Shirt: Cents of Style
Shorts: Amazon
Shoes: Amazon
Jewelry: Stitch Fix (earrings) Bracelet (Amazon)
You all told me I needed to get some white shorts, so I finally got some! See? I’m learning… slowly but surely!
The outfit for this day was supposed to be a grey shirt + bright colored shorts. I was going to be inside most of the day and it was rainy for half the day, so here was my version of the day’s outfit.
I thought it looked okay hanging in my closet, but once I saw this picture I was like, “Really?? That’s not how I thought it looked at all!!” And I decided that this wins my Worst Outfit of the Week award. Facebook agreed with that. 😉
Sometimes, you just need to laugh when you put together an outfit that you and Facebook realize is just a bad, bad choice.
Shirt: Cents of Style
Jeans: thredUP
Shoes: Amazon — oh and they are bright white, they just look grey because of the photo shadows
Jewelry: Kohl’s Clearance Rack & Amazon
Also, in case you haven’t noticed, I’ve learned that I wear blue a LOT. I need to expand my wardrobe colors. 🙂

I thought you wore a lot of blue because you were working with a “capsule” wardrobe. I figured it was intentional. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Well, I do love the color blue… but I need to branch out a little bit! 😉
Debbie Slaughter says
Crystal, I think you look great and your style is really fun and yet, classy! And, I have to add that it’s unbelievable that people actually left you negative comments (I read that on your FB post). I’m starting to believe that this is what some do for a job – troll the internet and leave nasty comments.
Envy is a wicked thing, isn’t it?!!
Keep being you 🙂 You look awesome!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much for your encouragement!

I HIGHLY recommend Stasia’s Thrift Me Pretty (and if you can afford it, her style school, which I really want to take). https://www.facebook.com/thriftmepretty/
She’s a wiz at thrifting/frugal dressing, and all about dressing YOU with your body, your personality, etc.
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much for the suggestion!
Amy says
Did you have to buy a lot of clothes for this challenge, or are you supposed to make it work with what you have in your closet? I missed the explanation of the whole thing and I don’t think I get it ?
Crystal Paine says
You can buy some or you can try to make do with what you have… it’s up to you! Different people do different things! I’ve bought a few things and then have tried to make do with what I have while mixing up different things in my closet to make different styles/looks and figuring more about what I like!

Such cute outfits! Where is the tan tote bag from? Larger totes have a tendency to look overwhelmingly large on smaller frames but that one doesn’t and I’ve been on the hunt:)
Crystal Paine says
I agree that it’s hard to find totes when you’re smaller! I found it on Amazon!
Mireille says
Love those yellow sandals! Was looking forward to this post all day! Being pregnant my wardrobe has been a little limited this summer but i am making my looser non maternity tips work for more variety.
Crystal Paine says
Aw, you’re too kind! I’m so glad you enjoy these posts!
Linda Griese says
You look adorable in all the photos! Love them!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much!

This past fall I bought a pair of burgandy jeans and while I love them, they don’t go with as many things as I thought they would. Especially not solid colors. I’ve found that prints work much better. The same is probably true for the purple.
This is partly why I’ve resorted to wearing exclusively dresses to work! Much less to worry about coordinating.
You look fantastic, BTW.
Crystal Paine says
I love them with chambray or a couple of solid color tops, but this top definitely doesn’t work!
Hempsoft says
Nice clothes you are looking very beautiful.
Crystal Paine says
Aw, thanks so much!
