Today’s Kroger Shopping Trip (sausage, cottage cheese, and oranges!)

Because I’m changing my morning routine, it means I have time to run by the store and shop for markdowns or great deals again in the mornings — which I have really missed having the margin to do. So expect to be seeing a lot more posts about my shopping trips. 🙂

Here’s what I picked up today at Kroger:

  • Organic cottage cheese — marked down to $1.39
  • 2 bags of oranges — $0.99 per bag
  • 4 lbs. of Country Sausage — marked down to $1.59

Total with tax: $10.34

I browned the sausage and then froze it in 4 separate bags to have ready for meals. It will be great for Egg Casserole or Lasagna or just to serve with scrambled eggs.

What’s YOUR way to use ground sausage? I’d love to hear in the comments!

This Week’s $65 ALDI Grocery Shopping Trip + Menu Plan

This week, I’m hosting the Eat at Home Challenge on my blog and on Facebook. I’ll be doing a live video every morning around 7 a.m. CT on Facebook making my dinner in the slow cooker.

(I’d love for you to join me in this challenge! You can read more about it here. You can sign up for the Facebook Group here.)

Since I’m following the Slow Cooker Menu Plan from Eat at Home for this challenge, I bought ingredients to make those meals + get our food for the rest of the meals this week. I decided to only shop at ALDI this week for the groceries to see if I could get everything for the Slow Cooker Menu Plan at ALDI.

I had to make one or two substitutions, but I was able to get everything we needed! We still need to stop by Kroger to get eggs and some more milk, but otherwise, we should be good for the week!

(In case you are wondering why on earth I did two different transactions… well, that was because I realized I didn’t have a quarter when I got to ALDI. Which meant that I couldn’t get a cart. I was going to go in and get a quarter from the cashier, but there was a long line at checkout. So I just decided to get a box and fill it up and check out when it was almost too heavy for me to carry and then do a second transaction. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that as the most comfortable or efficient way to do things, but hey, it worked! ;))

Watch my live video for details on what I bought, why I bought it, the prices I paid, plus some real-life commentary on ALDI!

Here’s what’s on our menu plan this week:

This Week’s Menu Plan

Breakfast — Cereal, Oatmeal, Toast, Eggs, Fruit

Lunches — Chicken Hot Dogs, Cheese Quesadillas, Caeser Salad, Fruit/Veggies, Leftovers, Snack-y Lunches, PB&J

Dinners — Leftovers, Easy Shredded Taco Beef, Chicken & Broccoli “Stirfry” in the Slow Cooker, Slow Cooker Hawaiian BBQ Sandwiches, Beef & Bean Topped Potatoes, Whole Herb Roast Chicken in the Slow Cooker, Dinner Out

This Week’s $62 ALDI Grocery Shopping Trip

We had a lot of extra food in our refrigerator, freezer, and cupboards this week, so we’re mostly eating from the pantry this week. (See our menu plan for this week here.)

I had a really, really full workday yesterday, so Jesse offered to go to the grocery store last night for me. He went to ALDI and spent $61.57. (Have you read my Open Letter to ALDI?)

Our Grocery Budget

We currently budget $125 per week for groceries for our family of 5. This does not include eating out once a week (we budget separately for that).

We also get some of our expensive groceries and personal products (such as makeup) via Amazon using credit earned from Swagbucks + we get the majority of our household products (cleaners, toothpaste, detergent, etc.) via credit earned from Grove.

We only spent $61.57, which leaves me wiggle room to buy more markdowns at Kroger if I have time to swing by there later this week to see if they have some great markdowns. If I don’t have time or they don’t have good markdowns, I’ll roll over the extra $$ to next week.

This Week’s $52 ALDI Grocery Shopping Trip

This Week's $52 Grocery Shopping Trip

We went to ALDI on Sunday night and spent $52 total. Because I’ve been buying extra deals here and there over the last few weeks, we had more to work with this week and I didn’t need to spend as much this week — which was great!

Note: If you missed my post on Why I’m Back to Grocery Shopping, Menu-Planning, and Freezer Cooking, be sure to read it here.

This Week's $52 Grocery Shopping Trip

This time around, our whole family went to ALDI together because we had a Community Group lunch right after church and it was held close to ALDI.

So, you might see a few extra things in my grocery purchases that I wouldn’t normally splurge on (hello, Goldfish crackers and fresh salsa!), but that I was happy to buy since everyone was willing to go to the grocery store with me and because we had quite a bit of extra wiggle room in the budget this week.
