Ask The Readers: What is an average clothing budget per person?

Today’s question is from Stephanie:

I am curious what an “average” clothing budget might be per person. Is there a figure of how much one should allot for clothing on a per-person basis? For example, I have a figure for food ($40/per person/per week) but what about clothes?

Ask the Readers: Do you have any frugal Christmas Cookie recipe ideas?

Today’s question is from Jessica:

I love giving homemade Christmas goodies out to friends and neighbors, but sometimes the ingredients can really add up to be a lot of money. When I’m already spending plenty of money this time of year, it can sometimes be hard to fork over the extra for specialty ingredients.

I wanted to get ideas from other MoneySavingMom.com readers about what Christmas goodies they find to be the most frugal to make and give. I’d love to be able to keep up this tradition with minimal damage to my pocketbook. -Jessica

Ask the Readers: Family Gift Ideas for Large Families

Today’s question is from Amy:

We have some friends that live across the country from us and every year, they send us Christmas gifts — and always include gifts for each person (my husband, our daughter and myself).

We also send them a gift, but the past few years we have sent “family gifts”, like a movie and popcorn night (Christmas movies, candy, popcorn, etc.). We can’t afford to send them a gift for every member of their family because they have 4 kids (ranging from 6-13), plus mom and dad, which is why we try to stick to family gifts.

However, I’m running out of ideas. Do you have any frugal gift ideas for a family this large (keeping in mind that the items will have to be shipped as well)?

Ask The Readers: Unique Gift Ideas for Toddlers

Today’s question is from Ariel:

We have three children ages 3, 2, and 1. We also have extended family that enjoys giving abundantly (a.k.a spoiling!) at Christmas. My husband and I want to encourage our children to live lives of giving and “living on less”, but we don’t want without take the gift-giving opportunity away from our family. Practically speaking though, we have way too many toys.

Besides clothing, books for homeschooling, and art supplies, are there any unique gifts or gift ideas I can suggest to family members?

Ask The Readers: What is a realistic Christmas budget?

Today’s question is from Tara:

I am trying to scale back my Christmas budget this year as money is a little tight. I’m wondering, what would you consider a “realistic budget” for 10 immediate family members, including my two boys, ages 5 and 2? -Tara
