Welcome to my weekly Slow Day post, inspired by Monica from The Homespun Heart. My Word for 2018 is Slow and, in the spirit of that word, I’m taking one day each week (Wednesday) off — I’ll be unplugged and offline and plan to move at a slower pace, take time to do things that refresh me, and just really focus on being present and savoring the moment.
Each week, I’ll be sharing a photographic peek into my Slow Day — and I’ll let the pictures almost 100% speak for themselves, instead of giving many explanations. Enjoy a little peek into our lives!

I started the morning by cleaning the kitchen.
A clean kitchen makes me so happy!
This book is really making me think.
Taking a leisurely bath with soaking salts is one of my favorite things!
I thawed the frozen buttermilk to use for the waffles for dinner.
Lunch — made entirely with markdowns I got at Kroger!
And then I headed to my hair appointment.
One of my favorite things about getting my hair done? Having uninterrupted time to read! I enjoyed this book.
When I came home, I got to do a little more reading (in bed!) before it was time to focus on afternoon projects and making dinner
Silas and I had made waffles for dinner.
I cut up some marked down oranges that needed to be used up.
And then we made bacon to go with the waffles and oranges for dinner.
I headed out after dinner to meet my Discipleship Small Group. We’re meeting almost every Wednesday evening over the summer just because we love hanging out!
Jesse helped Silas with his 4th quarter project and they finished the Paris cityscape while I was gone.
And Kaitlynn learned how to make these beautiful paper flowers!

My hairdresser would be talking to me the whole time…no time for reading! ?

Ha! I pull my book out right away and start reading. I’m not a small talk kind of person! 🙂
Andrea says
I love how you got a lot accomplished but still found time to read. It’s great to sneak in time for the things we love to do!
Crystal Paine says
Reading is something that I try to always prioritize daily — but especially on Slow Days!

Love, love, love. This past week I hit a major wall – significant anxiety, fear, panic, just plain overwhelmed. Had a good, long talk with my husband (and myself!) yesterday about not letting the crazy of end of school make me crazy. I need to get back to being intentional. Writing down all the stuff swirling around in my head, making lists and then choosing what must be done and what would be nice to be done, saying no to things, saying an emphatic yes to the most important things.
Slow, intentional, simple.
And this is very superficial – haha! – but what is your nail color? LOVE IT!!

I’m so sorry you had a rough week! I hope this week is better! It’s amazing the difference that slowing down and being intentional makes!
I’ve fallen in love with the SNS dip polish. It lasts for 4-5 weeks! And my nails are stronger and healthier than ever!
