Thank you so much to so many of you who joined us for last night’s Say Goodbye to Survival Mode Conference Call! It was a great call — and your questions were fantastic!
If you missed it, I’ve got great news: we recorded it and are making the replay available below.
Some of the Topics We Covered:
- How to recognize the warning signs of burn-out and what to do about them
- How to look at failure as your friend and embrace it for growth and change.
- How to stop living in the “Comparison Trap” and find more joy.
- How to create space for margin and breathing room in the midst of a busy schedule.
- How to develop authentic friendships with other women.
- How to deal with and overcome mommy guilt.
In addition, remember that BIG news for our family that I alluded to in a recent post? Well, I spilled the beans on the call last night.
It’s a decision we’ve been mulling over for quite some time and are grateful that both Jesse and I came to a place of very clear direction and peace about it together in November. We’re sad to leave our friends and family in Kansas (sniff!), but we’re very excited to embark on this brand-new adventure come April.

I enjoy your friendly and helpful advice to us. And, I really love your revamped website design! It looks great!

Crystal, I am enjoying your book. Just finished chapter 2. I am going to loan it to my married daughter (she has two small boys) when I am done with it. Today she and I were talking on the phone about your “big news”. I kinda feel a connection with you because my husband and I are moving to Nashville (from northeast Wisconsin) next month as well, as he has accepted a pastorate there. Thank you for the impact you have had on so many lives! God bless.
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement! I hope that everything goes well with your move!
Renee says
I went to college at Western Kentucky University and drove to Nashville area quite a few times. I figure skated in college and the closest rink was Nashville so I traveled to their rink. I liked the rink. I also had friends who lived in Franklin and Mt. Juliet and went to those cities on weekends. I don’t care for driving and did not mind driving the Nashville area.
Elizabeth Rogers says
So excited to hear you’re moving to Nashville, we live a couple of hours from there. Tennessee is beautiful and there are so many great things to do in Nashville. I know your family will love it!!
JOYce says
Just learned of being put first in line with 5 copies our library DID(and quickly) order up for the Main. I’ve seen them order additional whenever holds go viral ~ they did give it a positive nod as there were three copies of your previous book with current activity(the person I spoke to with the suggestion was a facebook follower that had seen you on GMA). At any rate ~ should translate into sales, these library requests. Many books land on personal shelves plus gifting and suggesting after borrowing by avid library patrons. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much! I LOVE it when people request that their library carry it as then it blesses so many more people!

I just KNEW exactly where you were moving before I even listened, and then I got goosebumps! You will love it here in Nashville. There are great churches, a wonderful homeschool community, and great overall neighborhoods (I’ll put in a little plug for Franklin here). We love it here! There is so much to discover in this area, and I am excited for your family’s adventure. Our little perk: We can see Dave Ramsey’s house from our house, which keeps me motivated to stay on track with our financial goals : ) Blessings to you as you move and I hope to run into you around town! Feel free to have any of your folks contact me if you need any referrals on anything Nashville related : )
Crystal Paine says
Aw, I’m already falling in love with all you Nashville folks… thank you!

I feel like I’ve been living under a rock — just now realized your website design changed! Miss the pig but it’s a great look! Congrats on the book and all the amazing things in store for your family!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much!

I was curious about your ‘big news’ so I scrolled down to the comments. I think it’s awesome that you’re sending out copies of your book to those who can’t afford them/their libraries can’t. Our library has three copies on order and I am #7 in line. 🙂
Jen says
I think when we get our taxes back I’m going to order two copies! One to read and keep and one to pay it forward. I have a lovely group of online friends from various message boards and forums and more than a few of them could use this. We have a tradition of passing things around our ranks. I think this book would be a perfect fit 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I LOVE this!

Crystal,
Welcome to Tennessee! We moved from Michigan to TN 6 months ago. It was a huge change for us as we know no one here and we had tons of very close family in MI. But we love it just the same! I live in Knoxville, about 3 hours away, but would love to drive to Nashville if you decide to do a meet up over there once you settle in.
Also, I wasn’t able to purchase your book right now and our library doesn’t have it. But I did go into Barnes and Noble and they had it right there! I was able to find a comfy chair and read a bit of it yesterday! I wrote down a few key notes and I have already got my list of most important priorities down. I plan on going back this weekend to read a little more. 🙂
Thanks for all you do!
Jessica

I am so excited Amazon had your book $2 off today! I was able to redeem my discover cashback bonus directly on amazon to get it FREE!!! ;o)
I have learned so much from your post over the last few years. My husband and I have finally achieved financial freedom- which was a huge challenge in the beginning since I left a full time job to improve my health and to be a stay at home mom and my husband left a corporate job to go into Ministry. Your blog has been such a blessing in our lives and provided the tools, “training”, and motivation to help us make necessary changes in our finances to achieve our goals! THANK YOU!!!
I am looking forward to reading this book and leaving the “survival” mode- I am so tired of being tired! ;o)
Thanks, Crystal for the amazing woman you are- and for sharing your gifts to others!
Crystal Paine says
YAY!!! I’m rejoicing with you! And thank you for your kind encouragement!

Congrats on your move! Nashville is a wonderful city to live in! We moved here in October for my job and absolutely love living here. Excited to have you nearby soon!
ConnieS says
Congratulations on your big move! We moved to Nashville (actually just south in Franklin) just over 5 years ago from St. Louis. It was a huge blessing in our lives. I have 17 year old quadruplets that will graduate from High School this year so it has been quite a journey for us. If you have any questions about the area, please feel free to contact me!

Oh, and I noticed you were the author of my Proverbs 31 Ministries devotional the other day! You really are turning over many new leaves for 2014!
Amy says
I’ll add my welcome to TN! We’re in Chattanooga (2 hours away). I know you and your family will love it. Thanks for all you do!!!
Trinette says
Exciting news! Go as the Lord leads you! We moved to Knoxville, TN just over 3 years ago from WI, and like you I had never lived outside of the state I was born in! So it was quite a change and a huge move – like pulling you up at your roots! It was really tough for awhile, but eventually you start growing new roots. I will pray for you and your family!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much for your kind encouragement!
Jenny says
The people we met in Nashville were some of the nicest we’ve ever met on a vacation. We considered moving there ourselves after just a 4 day trip. My gut says you and your family will fit right in!
Abby from Belgium says
Dear Crystal,
I ordered the book, hope I will get it next month or so (praying). I am so excited!!!
Wishing you all the best with the upcoming move to Nashville (prayers are said).
As always: many blessings

Crystal, I just wanted to thank you for posting taping the call and making it available to listen in later. I just finished listening to it, and I am got so many helpful insights on the struggles that I face daily — you hit the nail on the head when you were telling your call who was feeling overwhelmed by things being so disorganized in her life (that’s where I am!) when you told to to pick one thing and work on that for 3 weeks, then evaluate and add/remain as necessary — that even if you only make 4 changes a year that that is 40 changes in 10 years! Crystal, that is music to my soul, I am running with that today. Thank you so much!!!!!
BTW, I just finished chapter 2 of your book and love it!!!!!!
Crystal Paine says
I am so very grateful that was an encouragement to you — thank you for sharing!
Emily E says
Yay for moving to Nashville! I’ll reiterate what someone else said- you should join us here in Murfreesboro- close to Nashville and with all the amenities but still a great small town feel. Plus I’d love to run into Money Saving Mom at the grocery store. 😉
suzy says
Crystal!! you’re such an inspiration to me and your words and encouragements are so powerful that change a bad day to a good grateful one. I’m so glad I found your site and words of wisdom. I called 3 of our local libraries and none of them have it yet and requested for them to purchase a copy but they didn’t sound positive about purchasing due to budget cuts. I will keep calling them to check and I told them that this book would be an asset to their collection. thanks so much for all you do.
Crystal Paine says
If you email me your mailing address, I’d love to send you a copy — [email protected]

I’m excited about your news of moving to Nashville. I live just over the state line in Kentucky where my husband pastors a church. Once you are settled I would love to have you come speak to the ladies of our church. I have told so many of them about your website and it would be awesome to meet you. Congrats on the new book. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy to read.
Crystal Paine says
Oh, that would be FUN!
Laurie @PassionatePennyPincher.com says
You’ll love Nashville (we’d hoped we would end up there because it’s such a great town!) And, you’ll have Publix…oh my heavens, just the best place to coupon shop ever. How exciting for you!
Crystal Paine says
PUBLIX!!!!
Karen says
Congrats on everything! Moving states can be so hard. In 9 days, I’m moving a grand total of 20 miles…but it’s across the Ohio river, so switching from OH to KY. Still, enough of a challenge packing up my tiny apartment…I don’t envy you with 3 kiddos and a house of items! In other news, you’ll be soooo much closer! Praying for you and the family and all the coming changes!
Nicole says
P.S. We have Kroger and ALDI stores here in the Middle Tennessee area 🙂
guest says
And Publix!
Erika says
OMG! I totally miss Publix subs… They are AMAZING!
I wish we had Publix here in Pittsburgh… I only get them once a year when we go to Florida for vacation!
Nicole says
I read your emails every day! 🙂
My own Mom who saves money first told me about them! 🙂
We moved to Nashville a few years ago (2009) when my husband and I were engaged and he got a job here. We got married and bought a house in Murfreesboro and I am loving being a stay at home mom to our 16 month old daughter now. 🙂
We were able to get more “bang for the buck” (with our newer bigger house and big yard and better schools) outside of Davidson County, by the way, but you probably already know that if you searched on Zillow! 🙂
If you have any questions feel free to ask! You have helped me too many times to count and I would love to help you if I can! 🙂
Thanks so much for your valuable site! 🙂
Lauren says
Welcome to Tennessee! I hope you love it as much as we do. We’re in East Tennessee, and I’ve lived here almost 15 years. I’m a converted Southerner for sure!
Lyn says
Congrats on your new book! I can wait to save up my swag bucks for amazon gift cards to get it and read it. I quit a toxic job in September to be a stay at home mom. I have never been happier. I am Still trying to find the balance in the day to day and the budget to keep making this work. I want to make it work. Thanks for all the tips and advice. Your website has been a true blessing to me.
Melanie @ carmelmoments.com says
Congrats! I hope it goes smoothly. What a huge decision to make. But I’m sure God was in the center of it so it will all work out for you!
Andi says
Awesome news! So excited for you. I have to check tomorrow to see if our library is getting in your book. I work in the children’s department and aren’t sure if anyone in the whole system has a copy. It would be a hit in our area.
Laurel says
I too just called my library today to see if they would order your bk. They’ve always been really good about ordering bks for me, so hopefully, this will be the same. (If I can wait that long to read it & don’t give in & just order a copy for myself!)
Kayla Aimee says
Congrats! We moved away from Nashville a few years ago but we loved it and miss it and visit often. I actually got an ARC of Say Goodbye To Survival Mode and really it is so wonderful! I loved your first book back – raved about it back when we did a big giveaway with you and have given it to many newly marrieds but this one was really great for me now in this season of my life as a working stay at home mom!

Moving is a big thing. Moving out of state is HUGE. We’re looking at such a move too. I’d love to hear your thoughts on making such a move economically.
karen young says
Bummer, my library hasn’t ordered it yet. I’m sure it’s worth the wait 🙂 I am looking forward to reading it though. With twins AND two foster sons with special needs, I need some peace and serenity – ha ha !
Hannah says
I am in the same boat. Keeping my fingers crossed that my library purchases this book, so I can read it. I even have my friends asking them to carry it. We are all so excited to read it.

Congrats on the move and praying for your family through the whole journey. We just moved from Los Angeles, California to Vancouver, BC, Canada in less than a month due to my husband’s job. It’s been difficult moving away from our friends and family, plus my kids (3 and 5) have never moved before, in addition to another country! But our marriage and family are being strengthened and encouraged through the adjustments. Praise the Lord for providing everything we need one day at a time. BTW, if anyone out there is in Canada and can tell us how to get coupons, I’d appreciate it. Boy, is it expensive up here!
JLM says
Hi C
I am from Canada! Regarding coupons in Canada, we have them, but not as much as in the USA . I get a lot of my coupons from save.ca. The Vancouver Courier – a free paper that is delivered to your residence sometimes has coupons from Procter and Gamble, Red Plum and Sample Source. Very occasionally you might come across some coupons for food… Re: groceries the Real Canadian Superstore is one of the more affordable places to grocery shop. I hope this answers some question. Blessings!
C says
Glad to know I’m not crazy about lack of coupons in Canada. Thanks for the tips! And I just discovered Real Canadian Superstore – it almost cut my grocery bill in half so that’s where I will shop for groceries from now on. Thanks again!
JLM says
Your welcome C!
Michele says
Make the drive down to Bellingham to do your shopping! All the Canadians do! We have Trader Joes and Costco. 🙂
C says
We are planning a trip down to Bellingham this Saturday to go to Costco. It is cheaper down there too! Thanks!
Amy Bass says
Crystal, you will love it there 🙂 I am from Murfreesboro and miss the area for its people and its beauty. The Volunteer State is lucky to have you guys!
Suzanne says
Wow–that is a big change! Congrats to your family. I’ll admit, I’ve always been a little jealous of your posts about enjoying family dinners, free babysitting, and all of the other perks that come from living so close to extended family. 🙂
Change can be so bittersweet.
Susan P. says
just moved here last yr, k

Good luck with the move Crystal and family! My husband and I just moved between Christmas and New Years from Ohio to Indiana…not quite as far as KS to TN but still challenging! I wish you the very best!

“somebody’s husband” spilled the beans last month on their twitter about your family move in April to Nashville. 🙂 Inquiring minds that happened upon that have been waiting to learn “what the opportunity is”. Something with Dave Ramsy(no) ~ well how about Thomas Nelson…Jon Acuff…???
hmmmmmmmmmm, cliffhangers. 😉
Julie C says
*lol*
Shelly says
Can’t wait to listen to this for your big news! My baby boy is asleep in my arms right now, so can’t listen at the moment 😉
And can’t wait to read your book. I’ve requested it to be ordered by our local library. I’m hoping they will so I (and many others) can read it 🙂
Thank you so much for your blog and all you do! You are such an encourager 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Thank you for your sweet encouragement! And THANK YOU for asking for your local library to get the book — I really appreciate that!
{And if they are unable to get it, I’d love to buy you a copy to read and then donate to them. Just email me your mailing address: [email protected]}

Several weeks ago when you mentioned you had big news, my first thought was that you were moving to Nashville to work with Dave. Funny! Congrats 🙂
Tiffany says
Oh and I realize that you aren’t working with Dave but you ARE moving to Nashville. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
🙂
Slides 'n Sandboxes says
I can’t wait to get your book from our library. Once it gets around to ordering it, which maybe I could hint them to do? 🙂 Otherwise I will wait until some used copies become available through book swaps.
Congrats on your big news! Moving is a big deal but moving hours away to another state – that’s even bigger deal. I hope all goes well for you and your family. I remember when you first moved to the house you have right now – the excitement, the joy. It didn’t seem so long ago.
Oh, and good thing you are a minimalist – packing shouldn’t be a big deal for you 😀
Carrie Morley says
I can’t wait to read it!
All this talk about libraries has me rethinking the digital copy I planned to buy… Maybe I’ll buy a paper copy and then donate it to the library!
colleen says
Carrie that’s a great idea! You’ve inspired me to do the same!
Mandy W. says
I’m hoping that my library gets your book in! So far, they don’t have it on order, and I don’t know if they will get it with their budget cuts and all, and I’m dying to read it!!! It sounds exactly like what I need right now!
And congrats on the “Big News” – I’m very curious to find out if you are moving there for the reason I’m thinking you are moving there (ie: a certain very wise financial guru runs his business from there???)
Crystal Paine says
If your library can’t order it in for you, email me your mailing address and I’ll send you a copy. 🙂
And no, the move to Nashville isn’t related to Dave Ramsey but to other opportunities that have opened up for us. 🙂
Tiffany says
Congrats!!! Please write a post for those of us who can’t listen!
Dana says
Maybe you can do something with the military community just northwest of Nashville… we’d (I) would love it!!!!
Rebecca says
Also hoping I can get it from the library to read! With all the budget cuts, our base library shut down last summer so we have to go to the one out in town…which is not as accommodating to say the least.
Crystal Paine says
Let me know if they can’t get it and I’ll buy a copy for you to read and then donate to them.
Laura says
Wow Crystal! You really are amazing. I got goose bumps when I read that you would send them free copies if their libraries couldn’t order them in.
Thanks for everything you do 🙂
Crystal Paine says
You are so welcome! I just feel so blessed at the support from you all and am happy to pass on the blessing to those who can’t afford copies.
JOYce says
Folks may want to check with their library to learn policies on book title suggesting(if accepted, requester could be first to borrow) and donating(including previously read) books. Our system is online and suggestions can be made that way or by phone. The gift policy is online, too, which leaves it to the library discretion as to whether the book will be added to their lending collection or handled otherwise, including sold. Not sure if that includes what I remember as books being put on shelves in memory. Asking specifically with patron location would clarify to avert disappointment in a purchased/given book by you(Crystal) not being immediately accepted for community readership.
Also, MSM followers can check not only about borrowing from other branches in a local library system…but see if programs such as (individual state)link and search(individual state) or similar programs are offered(online here but not sure of the dots to connect for those libraries without an online catalog) . It might be possible to not only borrow from other public libraries across the patron’s state if their own library doesn’t host a book ~ but from universities.
Hope this helps folks ~
🙂
Melanie @ carmelmoments.com says
Great idea. I’m going to check our local libraries to see if they have it it.
We’re on a no-spend January right now but I can’t wait to read it. I feel like I’m in survival mode right now.
Rebecca says
Thank you so much! You do so much for your readers, your blog is such a positive place for me to visit. Good luck on your move! We moved 13 hrs away from our family almost 3 years ago…it is trying at times with 2 little ones but you adjust & create a new normal. You’ll love Tennessee! Beautiful state, tons to do. We’re hoping to get stationed somewhere up there one day…or any place north of FL lol. Thank you again Crystal!
