“Do you let your kids have phones? If so, how do you protect your kids and what kinds of apps or parental controls do you have in place?”
I get some kind of variation on this question multiple times every week. Since this topic is one that really depends so much on the family and the situation and each individual child, I was hesitant to share what we do at our house. However, after we continued to get so many questions on this, Jesse and I decided to delve into this topic on this week’s episode of The Crystal Paine Show.
We share the guidelines we have, why we have them, and some thoughts on when we choose to give our kids phones and what the stipulations are for having a phone at our house.
We also share a recipe we’ve been loving, a funny anecdote about why we got 3 or 4 crockpots as wedding gifts, and what Jesse and I are reading right now.
In This Episode:
[01:32] Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins are saving my life
[02:31] Our crockpot is saving Jesse’s life.
[06:30] How we ended up with multiple crock pots as wedding gifts.
[08:08] Learn what Jesse and I have been reading.
[10:37] Why we have to refill our cup with more than just rest.
[13:06] Our rules for kids and phones… but first, a caveat.
[14:23] Out guidelines for when we give our kids a phone.
[17:00] Why have a phone is a privilege, not a right.
[21:55] A discussion on how we talk to our kids about the dangers of the internet and technology.
[26:29] How we strive to teach personal responsibility and wise decision making.
[31:49] You will make mistakes, keep pushing forward and walk in faith.

What crockpot do you use? I’m trying to find one that doesn’t have such a hot “low” setting. Thanks!

Jesse got me the Crockpot brand from Walmart.

We love pumpkin muffins and I have the easiest recipe…1 can pumpkin and a box of spice cake mix. That’s it! Don’t add any other ingredients from the box, but you can mix in chocolate chips, nuts or cranberries. I add a splash of water or juice just to thin it out. Beat until smooth and then bake at 350 for 22 minutes. Done!

I’ve tried that recipe in the past and don’t think it holds a candle to the from scratch muffins. 😉 But I’m biased like that! It’s great for when you want something pumpkin-y and don’t have a lot of time, though!

The insight was great. You could teach a class on Rules on Cell Phones. Also I like how you explained how a person can saved if they have one grocery store. I believe some get frustrated with grocery savings because in the past you have some bloggers who knock those who shopped at Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar. My mother saves alot of money on groceries on a Military Base that is 5 minutes from her house. People have to work with what they have. Keep up the great work.

Just wanted to share my changes on the muffins that I’ve done for years. I reduce the sugar to 1 1/2 cups instead of 2 and replace half the oil for applesauce and they come out great! I have tried less sugar and less oil but you start noticing the difference at that point. I love them and seeing this reminded me to take pumpkin and applesauce out of the freezer to make tomorrow. I also love that it makes so many so I can freeze and have them for a while.
