Who’s joining me for the Make It From Scratch Week this week?
I haven’t completely nailed down which 5 new ideas I’m going to try, but here’s my list that I’ll be choosing from (in case you need some ideas, too!):
- DIY Toilet Bombs
- Homemade Bath Bombs
- Lavendar Bath Salts
- Glazed Donut Holes
- Primal Fudge
- Homemade Mounds Bars
- Crockpot Brownies
- Banana Oatmeal Cups
- Skinny Pumpkin Frappe
- All Natural Antibiotic Tea
- On the Go Pancake Muffins
Are there any on this list you really think I should or shouldn’t try? I welcome your input!
Come back later this evening to see which idea I tried today!
larissa says
SKINNY PUMPKIN FRAPPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! please please please ! I will love you forever !
Mary Bacon says
the homemade bath bomb link doesn’t work 🙁
Suzanne says
Why wait 2 hours for brownies when you can have them done in 45 minutes?
I think the banana muffin cups look great!
Suzanne says
I also 2nd the suggestion to try baking your own bagels.
Jen says
I urge you to please do a little more research on the internal use of essential oils. Jessie Hawkins from Vintage Remedies has some good info on it here:
http://jessiehawkins.com/the-post-weve-always-avoided/
I’m not an affiliate or even a paying customer of hers – I just think it is well-written.
Crystal says
Thanks for sharing!
Susan says
I love that “toilet bombs” and “bath bombs” are both on your list – make sure you don’t mix up those two! LOL 🙂
Crystal says
Yes, that would be a bad thing to do. 🙂
Lynn says
Do you have a recipe for Apple Sauce using the crock pot?
Annette says
Your link to lavendar bath salts goes to the brownie recipe. FYI
Crystal says
Thanks for letting me know. I’ll go fix that.
Jen says
Now it goes to the Mounds recipe.
Crystal says
Fixed!
Britt says
We make the Mounds bars. They are super easy and delicious!! I researched several Mounds recipes. I picked 2. One I liked the ingredients for the coconut filling ,and another I liked the ingredients for the topping. I put the 2 together, made my own changes to make it a tad healthier. And TaDa , we have one amazing recipe.
Elizabeth says
I can’t say that I’ll join. I wish I could but time is my problem. I think I give Cozi fits as it attempts to show all the things that overlap I have to somehow make work. I was home sick this past weekend though and made egg bagels from scratch (my husband’s favorite & you can’t buy them around here anymore) and they turned out real good and my bread machine made the dough up with such ease! (You didn’t think I’d be kneading by hand while caressing a tissue box did you?)Z
I suggest making bagels if you haven’t before!
Jen Hasseld says
I am warning you-the primal fudge is AMAZING!!! It was the ONE sweet thing I could eat while on my elimination diet a few months ago. I make it with peanut butter now instead of almond butter, and it’s still one of my favorite treats. I bought a tiny silicone ice cube tray that’s perfect for them. You will want to eat them all. You’ve been warned!
shannon says
The link for bath bombs and bath salts both pulled up another DIY on your list…..
Monica says
Glazed Donut Holes, anything Sally makes has to be good.
Melissa says
Primal Fudge is DELICIOUS! Although we are not Paleo here, it fits with our dietary restrictions and I make it for special occasions. So fast and yummy and healthy!
I make a version of lavender bath salts and it is sooooo relaxing.
Sarah says
Please make Primal fudge and banana oatmeal cups
heather says
I would like to see the crockpot brownies, diy toilet bomb, and pancake muffins, as well as the skinny pumpkin latte! Can’t wait to see what you pick.
Dita says
I vote for the primal fudge, crockpot brownies and homemade mounds bars, chocolate city baby!
Need A Nap2 says
Primal Fudge and On the Go Pancake Muffins (with chocolate chips of course!)
Crystal says
You know me well! 🙂 And I have a good feeling I’ll be doing both this week!
Julie C says
Wow, 90 drops of essential oils to deodorize and kill bacteria?!? How about a swish of vinegar? This is not a cheap option.
Crystal says
😉
Kathleen says
Donut holes look sooo good! I would try those.
The Banana Oatmeal cups look good too. Green lite bites is an awesome website. I have tried a few of Roni’s recipes & she makes awesome stuff!
Mary says
My vote is for the Skinny Pumpkin Frappe! I think I’ll have to make one too!
vicki says
donut holes definitely!! second choice is the oatmeal cups! antibiotic tea sounds like a good idea, but there’s no science behind it… I’m all for eating healthy and everything but honestly if you have a cold (virus) there is no magical tea that will “kill” it, since it’s technically not alive 🙂 rest, fluids and taking it easy for a few days will do the trick. don’t waste your time/money on these hoaxes. the website doesn’t cite links to resources proving its efficacy. Many people waste their money on these “natural” remedies, don’t follow the fad.
Kimberly says
Don’t know if I’ll get around to participating other than to read the posts and leave a comment bc this week is super busy for me. But over the summer I used one of your Pinterest links to make a homemade bathtub cleaner (the one with blue dawn and vinegar) and I love it! I’m sure you’ve made good choices…can’t wait to see he these turn out.
angie says
I would love to see you make things using things that we already have in our house… I don’t have things in my house to make the fudge, or the toilet bombs, etc.
Bobbie says
I’d make the crockpot brownies just for the house smell alone 🙂
Katie (Cultivating Trio) says
I would love to know how the primal fudge tastes and turns out! The pancake muffins sound good too! I might add that to next weeks goal list. Can’t wait to see what you try! Good luck, I hope they all work great!
Linda M says
I am voting for the toilet bombs and pumpkin frappe….we have our own pumpkin here.
I will be making….Swedish Pancakes….egg allergy here and can use these like crepes and fill with creamy filling and top with our own peaches.
I will also be making some meatballs from scratch to put in the freezer….but intend to spice them up with some fresh diced peppers from the garden.
I plan to try a recipe for crockpot pumpkin butter….but use the recipe I have for making crockpot apple butter…it should work, I think. I will just sub in the pumpkin pie spice instead of the other spices. Will be used as Christmas gifts and for ourselves.
Plan to make some bath salts for a birthday gift I need.
Plan to dry some rosemary and oregano to have as part of my Christmas food gift bags.
Allie says
Could you please share a link to your Swedish pancake recipe? My daughter is allergic to eggs and I would love to make something that resembles crepes for her. All of the Swedish pancake and crepe recipes I Google have eggs in them. Thanks!
Diana says
I made the skinny pumpkin frappe last week. It was nasty. I normally LOVE anything pumpkin and/or coffee flavored but this was a fail. Let us know if the doughnut holes turn out!
jennifer says
Glazed donut holes, mounds bars and crockpot brownies!
Tammy says
I made canned peaches from scratch today. 😉
I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Carla says
Please make skinny pumpkin frappes. 🙂
Jess says
I am most interesting to hear about the toilet bombs also.
Katie says
Just so long as they aren’t the kind that happens when a schoolkid steals the pure sodium from the chemistry lab and then panics and flushes the evidence. My eighth grade science teacher had stories about that… 🙂
Angie says
Toilet bombs and mounds bars!
I’m also interested in the lavender bath salts, but the link links to crock pot brownies.
Amy says
I hope you make toilet bombs! I’ve seen them on Pinterest, but I don’t always trust Pinterest reviews to be accurate. I’d love to know if it works for you!
Ann says
I made a very similar recipe for the Pancake Muffins yesterday. My kids liked them. Just be sure to grease your muffin pan REALLY well. I greased some, but not enough and several of the muffins did not have a muffin shape, lol!
Kim says
If you are looking to narrow down, making bath bombs and toilet bombs are basically the same thing with variances in essential oils. I make them all the time. I love anything all natural DIY. Have fun with those! 🙂
Shelly says
I had a hard time limiting my list of from scratch items to 5 for this challenge. But there were a few things I had been wanting to try from scratch and a few items I make from scratch that I just haven’t gotten around to making a blog post about so this challenge will be great for doing just that.
I vote for the crockpot brownies or the mounds bars because how can you go wrong with chocolate.
Carol@simple_catholic says
The primal fudge looks wonderful and so simple to make. I don’t think I’ll do it this week, but I will definitely be trying this recipe in the near future. 🙂
Katie says
Another vote for toilet bombs. Because 1) I think you should mix it up and not do ALL your DIYing in the kitchen and 2) I’m genuinely curious about them.
As for the others, I’m curious about crockpot brownies. And I also think that your should make mounds bars or fudge and “accidentally” leave some over here on this side of town – at our MOPS meeting, perhaps.
BTW, when I linked to the Homemade Bath Bombs I got a recipe for mounds bars…
Amanda says
My votes are:
Pancake muffins
Mounds bars
Donut holes
Pumpkin frappe
Tea
🙂
angie says
you are making me hungry!
Paula says
Mounds Bars! I have a recipe, but it has never worked out for me!! Maybe you’ll have the touch!
Marie says
Definitely try the Banana Oatmeal cups!!! I think I must of seen from you and tried it! the kids cobbled them up!!! They are very hearty!! We will definitely be making more and they freeze great too!!
Julie says
Try the banana oatmeal muffins. I would use cran-rasins instead of the chocolate chips.
Julie C says
Skinny pumpkin frappe: only 75 calories if you use stevia–winner, winner!
Sarah says
Throwing my vote in for crockpot brownies.
Kim M says
You should totally go for the crockpot brownies! I think I’ll try the pancake muffins myself though… they look really good!
Jessica says
I visited some of the recipe links and read through a lot of the (snarky) comments, and I noticed that many of these links are to “paleo diet” websites. I just don’t get the paleo diet thing. All of our foods are cultivated and unless you only hunt wild game, what you are eating- from apples to corn to lettuce to tomatoes- is nothing like what grew in the wild thousands of years ago before the advent of agriculture. Moreover, how many paleo cavemen lived in the tropics and had access to coconuts to make coconut oil? Along with the chocolate beans to make chocolate? Moreover, the beans have to be heavily processed to produce cocoa powder. This new trend just boggles me. Enjoy your food, eat a varied diet, make healthy choices, but the harping on others from some of those other websites where those recipes are posted… putting down people who enjoy grains or dairy because it’s not “paleo” is just silly.
Anyway, I think you should try the glazed donut holes. I bookmarked that one myself 🙂
sandra says
Jessica, ditto that! I dont get the paleo thing either!
Rebecca says
Pretty much! Some people latch onto the newest trend every time.
jennifer says
I’m tired of hearing about the paleo diet.
Sarah says
Well said.
Lana says
The antibiotic tea sounds interesting but essential oils in hot water sounds way too potent! I would rather rub those on the bottoms of my feet and put on some socks! Then make some honey tea!
I am canning peaches and slip covering my dining room chair cushions but past that I do not know. You have lots of good ideas!
Lana says
…and I am definitely making those Glazed Donut Holes! I will have one happy hubby!
Tera @ Adventures in Mommy-hood says
Please try the crock pot brownies–would love to see how they turn out. And I think you should make pumpkin oatmeal cups, because they sound better than the banana ones 🙂
kat says
crockpot brownies?!? i officially can’t wait for this challenge. 🙂
Amy says
◾Glazed Donut Holes. Definitely the Glazed Donut Holes.
angela says
Amy has it right. Donut holes!!! Do it, do it! 🙂
Kelly says
Would love to know how to make toilet bombs. Sounds interesting!
Michelle says
Oo, be the guinea pig for me and try the Primal Fudge. Oops, I meant, doesn’t the Primal Fudge sound delicious??? : ). I’d love to hear your take on the natural antibiotic tea, too, especially with flu season coming up.
Thanks!
Kay @Kay's Korner says
I make several things from scratch that I do love!! When your link thing is up, I plan to be joining you for the challenge!
Crystal says
I can’t wait to see which things you make this week!
