So, my sinus infection got worse instead of better after last Monday. It ended up moving to my chest — giving me a cough and causing me to struggle to talk for a few days. (I think maybe Jesse was kind of hoping it would inhibit me from talking, but I managed to still talk — even though it hurt! ;)).
I gave in and went to the doctor at the end of the week. (I’m one of those weird people who really dislikes going to the doctor and will try every natural remedy under the sun before heading into the doctor.) They put me on two different antibiotics and they seem to be working, albeit slowly.
I’m so thankful to finally be on the mend after being sick for three weeks. Thanks so much to everyone who gave me suggestions and input on how to treat a sinus infection. I was touched by your thoughtfulness and how much you care about me!
At any rate, despite how I felt, I did knock out quite a few of my goals. It helped that we had a long weekend and that Jesse stayed home from work on Friday and made me stay in bed and rest so I had more time on my hands than usual. {Yes, I love that man; he takes such good care of me!}

I thought of another thing…if my sinuses are bothering me at all, I stay away from hair products. I had the most fabulous stuff (for almost free on a Rite Aid run) but I had to stop using it because the scent would irritate my sinuses. A lot of days I just use baking soda and vingar now and have hair that doesn’t look awesome.
I was wondering if the gluten could be bothering you too because I know you didn’t have much for a while there adn then added it back in. Supposedly that can cause a reaction to a food to become more intense when it was never obvious before. I’ve been walking through the ups and downs of this food sensitivity testing/challenging/elimnating since January and I still am not sure what to think. But I have read a ton about it and that’s what THEY say, lol.
I just found out today that a SAHM friend of mine who has been through three sinus surgeries is finally getting relief from some kind of enzyme supplement- that might be somthing to look into? IDK.
God bless you and heal you:)

I started off the week with a terrible sore throat and head cold, I can’t imagine battling with it for 3 weeks! So glad you are feeling better!

Crystal,
I live in KC and allergies have been especially bad around here this year. I starting getting allergy shots a few years ago and it has helped a ton! And whenever I get a sinus infection, the only way I can get rid of it is with antibiotics! A zpac

Just a warning for everyone: please don’t put off going to a doctor for sinus infections. I had a viral sinus infection that damaged my olfactory nerve permanently—I can no longer smell or taste anything properly to the extent that I cannot detect dangerous smells (spoiled food, gas leak, etc.) and most food tastes terrible. While a viral infection wouldn’t have been cured by antibiotics, other treatments may have cleared out the infection before it damaged my sense of smell. Ironically, it wasn’t even a bad infection—I didn’t actually feel ill enough to go to bed.

I do my best to avoid going to the doctor too. It’s nice to hear you’re finally on your way to getting better. 🙂

I have horrible seasonal allergies, too. Hope you are feeling better soon!
Linked my goals, too!

I am so happy and energized to be back on a somewhat “normal” routine this week! We put my sweet doggie down on Friday, and it was horrible but peaceful for her and definitely the best thing for her. We were given the puppy (unexpectedly) last Sunday, so now my brothers are basically caring for a gigantic toddler (he’s a newfoundland) that gets into everything all the time, and I am housesitting with my best friend and have 3 wonderful days off from work, so I am able to get things done. YAY!
I’m glad you’re starting to feel better! I can’t believe you went running with a sinus infection. Although that probably helped keep that crud from staying in your chest longer, I can’t imagine that it was very comfortable!
Betsy @ Romance on a Dime says
I’m making the same English muffins this evening!! Thanks always for your inspiration!!

Radical = Amazing book! It’s rare that I read a book that makes me want to read more of the Bible. It’s spurred me on to reading the Bible through in a year for the first time. Hope you find it challenging also!

Crystal – I’ve been trying to figure out how to leave Jake love notes after hearing about your shower note writing : ) This past weekend, I left him a love note thanks to Siri on his Iphone. He got it at 2pm this afternoon and it absolutely made his day. He couldn’t figure out how I was able to do that, but by using Siri, it only took a moment : )
Crystal says
I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing. What a cool idea!

Wow Crystal….you are my hero! I’m in awe on how much you achieved even while sick. Cudos to you! I am so glad to hear that you are finally starting to feel better! I have also been dealing with illness and doctor visits on my end but for the family not myself. Ours though has been a nausea/vomitting/diarrhea kind of bug that slowly takes us out one at a time….not fun. So I too am glad I managed to get a little done off my list. 🙂
Jen @ LovingMeSomeBaby says
I’m glad to hear that you’re beginning to feel better 🙂

I won’t go to the doctor either. 😉

Sorry to hear about the sinus stuff and cough. Hope the allergy testing gets to the bottom of things. It worked for my dad. Glad you’re starting to feel better. You sure did get a lot accomplished for not feeling so hot.
Michelle Zielicke Murphy says
Sorry you felt so bad. I had sinus issues like that when we lived in the south. As soon as I moved north I no longer get them. Since my family has a peanut allergy I assume that was part of it. MISERY. I feel for you. I am doing better at my goals, kinda. I am also trying to work on making up the list Sunday instead of scrambling around doing it Monday! Praying you feel better soon Crystal.

Hmmm this week I have so many tasks I could do but going to focus on getting the garden planted, sticking to our meal plan and discovering a morning/pre-work routine that works!
Elizabeth says
Do you think maybe you also have a gluten problem?? That is one way some of us react to eating gluten….just a thought..
I appreciate your sharing your cooking here, and especially the gf ideas. I have some recipes I have worked on over the years and my older daughter says next year she will help me get published…we shall see. Maybe… My younger daughter and some grandchildren have various allergies, and not all of them the same ones…so we have learned to adapt a great many things to suit them. Not a problem we wished for but apparently one GOD felt we could handle.
Crystal says
They think it’s seasonal allergies that are bringing on the recurring sinus infections. I’ve had a LOT of allergy-type symptoms for the past year and finally decided it was high time I schedule allergy testing (something I’ve never done before). I’m going to the allergist in July to do testing, so we should have some concrete answers after that — hopefully!
Sarah says
Crystal, I am so glad to hear this I almost wrote you a post about this last week but figured you heard enough “suggestions” from everybody else. I had noticed you had a lot of sinus stuff and was wondering the same thing… I went to the allergist last summer because I was ALWAYS sick- it was life changing. I hate going to the doctors and taking antibiotics and my doctor always told me there wasn’t anything to be done. Well this was the first year I have made it a whole year with only one little cold. My allergist gave me things to do to change my home environment, it also explained my heartburn and difficulty sleeping, I started on allergy shots and I take one small cheap allergy pill every night before I go to bed. These changes meant I have been doctor and antibiotic free for a whole year!!! Hope you get positive results!!!!!!!!!!

Crystal,
Have you ever tried local raw honey? We started our son on it this spring after him suffering for a couple years with terrible allergies. I didn’t want him to have to do allergy testing at such a young age…he is 9. It was like a miracle for him. The first 3 weeks were rough because you are basically ingesting the things you are allergic to. But after that, it was great. He took a teaspoon a day on some graham crackers, but I think the adult dose is more like a Tablespoon a day.
Just a thought…I was skeptical, but now I am convinced. : )
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Coupons says
We use local honey to help with my brother’s allergies. He swears by it. And eats it by the tablespoonful.
I did allergy testing last November because I had taken myself off of gluten, dairy, and only eating minimal eggs, and my symptoms weren’t completely going away. I’m super fair-skinned, so they skipped the traditional needles-in-the-back test and just did a blood test. They said I would show up as being allergic to everything just because my skin is so light.
Shelly says
I am sorry to hear you did not have a good week last week. I hope you will be all well soon and the antibiotics do their job well.
I only got about half my goals done last week. It seemed like I was really busy but not getting much done. This week I am hoping to get the items done that I was not able to get to last week and get a schedule for the summer made. I know I get so much more done when I have a basic plan for each day.
Melissia @ BravelyFrugal says
My main goal this week has already proven to be one of my most difficult tasks as a mother – removing the lice from both of my daughters hair! Aaaghh!
Michele says
Ugh, I feel for you! We dealt with that 3 years ago, and it was awful! Make sure you check every couple of days because if you don’t get all the eggs, they just reinhabit. Yuck! We had to reapply the RID after 3 days in my older daughter’s hair. If you have a Walgreen’s near you, they carry a lice comb that is called a Robi comb or something like that. It zaps the lice, even the tiny ones, but not the eggs. It worked great for us on in beteween treatments. If I NEVER have to deal with lice again, it will be too soon! Best of luck to you!
Lisa says
Apple Cider Vinegar is very good for lice.
Dawn-One Faithful Mom says
The pesticides from the store just don’t work. But mayonnaise does. Make sure every. single. strand of hair is thoroughly coated, put a shower cap over it and leave for at least 3-4 hours. Use Dawn dish liquid to get it all out.
Remove every single nit and you will be good to go.
The kids HATE it, but trust me, it works!! And no low fat mayo…good old Hellmans or Dukes if you’re in the South!!
Lisa says
Apple cider vinegar is very good for lice, I’ve heard!

Glad to hear you are feeling better 🙂
I rocked my goal to exercise more this month! My clothes are so much looser and I feel healthier all around!

You ran with a sinus infection! Wow that is dedication. My ER nurse hubby won’t let me run when I have type of infection that has moved into my chest, or I am running a fever. You will notice I said My husband is the one that stops me, guess I am just as overly dedicated. I am glad you are on the mend finally.
Jen says
I don’t think you’re weird at all….I avoid going to the doctor as much as possible too!
Lori says
Just a heads up … I had a terrible sinus infection this winter that I could not get rid of. Three different rounds of antibiotics finally cured it after it got so bad it caused me vertigo and made my teeth hurt so much I went to the dentist to get X rayed. The only thing that finally cured it was tons of water and rest – I made myself go to bed as soon as my kids did, and after about a week of 10 hours rest a night it started going away. Even if I wasn’t sleepy, I read or did another quiet activity until I was ready to sleep. So, in short, take care of yourself – that will probably be the best way to kick it.

So did you give in and try the Sinus Rinse or Neti Pot? 😉
