How did your morning routine go this morning? If it didn’t go as planned, don’t feel badly because I didn’t do that well, either. 🙂
Here’s how my morning went:
Got up at 6:30 a.m. — yup, I had every intention of getting up at 5:30 a.m., but it just didn’t happen!
Read my Bible, wrote in my blessings journal, and started a load of laundry.
7:00 a.m. — I got a little distracted checking email for 15 minutes (bad girl, I know!).
7:20 a.m. — Silas got up and I helped him take a bath, get dressed, and ready for his soccer camp this morning.
After that, I set up the diffuser with Peace & Calming & Lavender… I love diffusing these two oils together! So soothing and refreshing!
7:35 a.m. — I headed down to the garage to get in a quick run on the treadmill while Jesse made breakfast (bacon & eggs this morning — yum!)
{I snapped this picture, because I thought it was a great example of what I’ve been learning in life over the past few years. Sometimes, it’s okay to be happy with just getting a job done, even if it’s not close to perfect. I can stress over having things perfect or I can give myself grace and just do the best I can do!}
7:45 a.m. — After running, I packed a quick lunch for Silas and got him out the door with Jesse. And then I ate breakfast, cleaned up our room, made our bed, switched the laundry, and cleaned up the kitchen while the girls got around and ate breakfast.
Then it was 8:30 a.m. and time to tackle my morning computer work.
So yes, my morning didn’t really follow my Planned Morning Routine, but I did get a good start on the morning. And I’m hopeful that tomorrow will be even better. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow. 🙂
I’m off to watch a movie and fold this pile of laundry with the kids. I hope you have a great afternoon!

Hi, I love the fact that you defuse the Young Living Essential Oils, I love them so much…And the fact that you post that you didn’t get your schedule just perfect makes others feel better that it doesn’t matter if everything goes perfectly all the time…it’s making an effort that counts. I have other organizing ideas as well…I would love to start a blog like this, but have no idea how…I have home schooled my 3 kids from Kindergarten on…2 of my children are adults now and one is 17…I love organizing and scheduling, but nothing goes perfect all the time.
Emilie says
Don’t you love when you start a routine and you get sick two days into it…reading blogs and drinking tea with honey instead of laundry, dishes and working out. Good think it is a weekend and I do not have to go to work and my children are old enough to fend for themselves.
Crystal Paine says
{Hugs!} I’m so sorry you’re sick! 🙁

Would you mind sharing what kind of Bible reading plan you use each day? Thanks!
Crystal Paine says
I use an Old Testament/New Testament plan that is in my Blessings Journal. There are a lot of free printable Bible reading plans available at ESV.org.

Please don’t take this as an attack. It seems you take a lot of time writing lists down. Wouldn’t seem easier just to do it than writing it down? The time it takes to sit down and write it down, several things could have been accomplished. That’s my thinking. I guess we all have our ways of doing stuff.
Crystal Paine says
Great question! 🙂 I typically just write one short list every morning for the day… I find that if I don’t have a list, I’m a lot less productive. I just go in circles instead of booking it through my list. So I find that the five minutes it takes to write a list is so very worth it!
Wendy says
I find I stay better focused if I have a list to follow. My 15 yo daughter makes a short to do list the night before as well. It works for us.
Nina says
Must report…that having a plan was wonderful….I did twice as much as I have done all week in one morning….thanks for the direction and motivation….the success alone this morning was enough to keep me going back I am sure of it!
Crystal Paine says
WOOHOO! I’m so proud of you!
Jody says
My routine went out the window this morning due to my husband being home which meant I got to sleep in! Looking forward to getting back to it tommorrow.

I am from Germany, but I love the American Way of organizition. I am 33, married, mother of two girls (7 month and 7 years) and a Labrador 🙂
I Love Reading your Blog and a few weeds ago I created my own Morning routine.
It could be better – but I am working on it.
Thank you for everything!
Have a Great Day!
Crystal Paine says
We’re so glad to have you here! And thank you for your kind encouragement!

Thanks for posting your routine! Quick note to say–We have the same exact comforter!! Love it!
Crystal Paine says
I love it, too!

My routine was out the window this morning! We had a great time of fellowship with some friends last night, but they live a bit of a drive away from us, so we didn’t get home until 11:30 p.m. Unload 7 kids and get myself ready for bed and I didn’t get there until 12:45 a.m. I did get 7 hours of sleep because I didn’t get up until 7:45 a.m.! But my routine was out the window! No stress though. I went with the flow (not my forte) and had a laid back day of laundry, cleaning, helping kids, and making a pillow cover for our Living Room. Tomorrow…surprise tea party for my birthday girl! 5 years old! Hopefully tomorrow morning will go according to the plan! 🙂

I ended up getting up 45 minutes late and missing a workout, but it was still over an hour earlier than normal :). Good thing too…our water was turned off today without any notice (construction in our street) and our son had a doctor’s appointment this morning. If I’d missed your post about starting a morning routine yesterday, I would have missed out on a shower this morning. :).
Sarah @The Teacher's Wife says
I’m thinking I may need to do a 21 day morning routine challenge myself….I think it would make my mornings run so much smoother if some of the mundane tasks like making the bed, starting a load of laundry, unloading the dishwasher were just habitual!
Ashley says
I intended to get up at 6:30 but it was a bad night of sleep between my not sleeping well (thank you pregnancy) and kids waking up. So I let myself sleep until the first kiddo got up (ended up being 7:30ish)
After that I started a cartoon for him and I enjoyed a hot cup of coffee.
Second little woke up which is when I started breakfast (we had bacon and eggs as well. Yummy)
Insert some coffee drinking, chat on FB with a friend then and tossing in a load of laundry while the kids played.
Dressed the kids and sent them outside.
I took a shower and got dressed.
Then we took a walk.
At that point it was already lunch time 🙂
I didn’t confine myself to doing anything at a specific time. Just relaxed and went with the flow. Still got the dishes and a load of laundry (i try todo one a day) done but also got in a long walk and the kids had a good active morning.
It was the best morning we have had in a long while 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I’m so glad you had such a great morning — yay!!
Ashley says
Oh and I wanted to mention that I’ve found doing my devotional during my youngest nap time (and while my oldest works on “school”, aka ABCmouse) had turned out being perfect for me.
I don’t get interrupted in the morning and I get that dose of Him I really need midway through the day when I’m usually getting stressed or tired

I am loving this (and getting super inspired)! Thank you for being so transparent. It is practical because it is just so real.
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much for your kind encouragement!
Jenni says
I had a great routine, but with kids needs changing, my routine needed to change. Up at 6, exercise, bible time, shower and get ready, breakfast for the family. Thankful to pull it off the last two day. That’s the only thing that went according to planned though!
Jennifer says
I hear you about checking email. If I don’t get everything done first, turning on my computer is like falling down the rabbit hole.
Kerri says
So, the morning routine didn’t happen today… but I am off work tomorrow so it is a good day to get back on track.
Here’s to new mornings and fresh starts!
Maria says
Ha! My routine went totally kerplunk today. Everyone slept in, so it just kind of rolled into a very casual day.
Joy says
OK, well…hmmm….
6am – up….no, it was 7am (blame the zyrtec last night) – but I did get up and dressed, forgot the vitamins and cleaned nothing, made no list for the day, did do a quick glance at email, started laundry and planned dinner.
Got no project work done (boo) but did start my calendar’s schedule at 9am and the day went great. Tomorrow HAS to be better. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
You can do it!!! 🙂
Mandy Collins says
I got up and got my 7 year old to school then came home and did laundry and baked 4 loaves of bread. My hubby works 3rd shift so our bed is never made except for when he is off and lately he has been working 7 days a week. I love your website I read it every day several times a day.
Crystal Paine says
Sounds like you had a very productive morning!
Mandy Collins says
I work part time at Dairy Queen and they wanted to try my homemade bread so I made it for them and one loaf for us. Im trying to get up early on my days off but its hard. I was gonna run 3 miles this morning but my allergies have been awful so I stayed in my pj’s all day 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I LOVE it that you made homemade bread for your co-workers. That just made me happy to hear — I bet they love you at Dairy Queen!
Kimberly Trautman says
A daughter highly allergic to posion ivy, 6 out of 8 children sick with cold symptoms, three little ones sleeping in my bed, and a husband who sets his alarm for 4:50 derailed my morning yesterday. I moved two little ones to the floor and snuggled with my feverish 2year old and promptly went back to sleep after my husband left for work. It is great to have older children who can take of getting themselves and their buddies up and ready for the day while momma sleeps in.
Crystal Paine says
Yikes! What a morning! I love your positive attitude in the middle of all of that!
Jen says
Interesting that Silas bathes BEFORE soccer. My 6 year old gets SO SWEATY when he plays. He would just need another shower when he got home if he took one beforehand!
Crystal Paine says
Hah! 🙂 Yes, he totally needs a bath when he gets home, too. 🙂
Amanda says
Crystal,
I love, love, love your website. It is one of my favorite parts of the day to sit down and read your blogs, recipe ideas, etc. Thank you so much in sharing your everyday life with us.
Amanda
Crystal Paine says
Aw, thank you so very much for your kind encouragement!

FINALLY! This morning was a success…living with intention made it work. Instead of dreading the mornings, like I usually have, I woke up with a game plan and took action. Felt fantastic! Thank you Crystal for the extra push!
Crystal Paine says
WOOHOO!!! I’m so proud of you! And you’re inspiring me!
Sonja says
You are encouraging me that the best intentions don’t always happen exactly as planned. I like your picture of the bed made, even tho’ not perfectly…so agree with that principle! Trying to implement it!
Crystal Paine says
Here’s to both of us working on implementing it! 🙂
Mel says
I have never really felt the need to make the bed.
Tara G. says
This makes me laugh!
Crystal Paine says
It made me laugh, too! 🙂
Jen says
Someone told me you SHOULDN’T make your bed. Something about it’s better to let all the sheets air out than to be covered up all day?? I still prefer to make mine. The rest of my house may be a total disaster but I make my bed almost every morning!
Jill says
That’s so funny! I just read the same thing this past week–that it is better to leave the bed unmade. However, I just can’t stand an unmade bed! A made bed makes the room look so much neater, and it feels so much better crawling into it at night. 🙂
Lana says
Totally out the window! I left home at 3 AM after a quick shower to be our oldest daughter’s labor coach for the birth of their second child. I am happy to report a beautiful, healthy baby girl born at 9:16 this AM after a very easy labor. God is so good!
Crystal Paine says
I’m pretty sure that’s about the best reason ever to let your morning routine go out the window. 🙂 Congratulations!!

What is a blessings journal?

Where did you get your diffuser? I have really nice essential oils but have no idea what diffuser to buy and I really want to try one!
Crystal Paine says
I got mine off of Amazon. They have some on there that are quite inexpensive.
