Although I am not normally a Kroger shopper, when I saw the post on MoneySavingMom.com with a link to the amazing General Mills e-coupon (buy 4 boxes, save $6), I knew I had to check out the sale. My husband I ended up running an errand right next to Kroger, so I popped in for a few minutes – and I’m so glad I did!
Here’s what I bought:
3 boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios: $8.97 total ($2.99 each)
3 boxes of Multigrain Cheerios: $8.97 total ($2.99 each)
2 boxes of Kix: $5.98 total ($2.99 each)
2 boxes of fruit snacks: $2.49 each
2 bottles of juice: $4.48 total ($1.99 and $2.49)
Since the cereal and the fruit snacks were participating in the “Buy 5, save $5” promotion and I bought 10, $10 came off at the register. And since the amazing $6 off coupon can be redeemed up to 5 times (WOW) and I bought 8 boxes of cereal, that took off another $12. There was also an e-coupon for $1 off Betty Crocker fruit snacks (also redeemable 5 times) which took off another $2.
To make the deal even sweeter, I joined up for the Old Orchard Fan Club over a year ago, thanks to the recommendation of MoneySavingMom.com. I had earned enough points from surveys to cash in for a free bottle of juice recently, and they also sent me a promotional coupon to try one of their reduced-sugar juices.
I used those coupons today. Unfortunately, the cashier took off $1.99 twice instead of $1.99 and $2.49, but I didn’t notice until I got home. But 50 cents for two bottles of juice is still fabulous!
One quick tip: I started by checking out the smaller boxes of cereal. But I looked at the bottom of the aisle, and found out that the biggest boxes of cereal were on sale for the cheapest price! The huge boxes are normally $5.39, but after the sale and the e-coupon, I paid 49 cents each. It was amazing!
My quick shopping trip ended up costing me $5.40 and I saved $44.48! We are set on cereal for months, and my kids are so excited for the special fruit snack treats in their lunch boxes once school starts up again!

Thanks to MSM, I knew about this great cereal deal. I also downloaded the Ralph’s $5 off a $5 purchase. I got 20 boxes of cereal and a few other items for a total of $10.49. I kept 5 boxes of cereal and took the rest of the cereal to my pastor’s house, because he has 6 of his 8 kids still living at home and a couple of other kids living there.

Wow, that is so great Kimber, I live in Mission, Texas, wish we had a Kroger’s here, I would so take advantage of that deal, since me and the kids love to have cereal in the mornings.

How are you still getting the buy 5 save $5? That sale ended on Sunday?
Heather says
When I went through the line with the gal I always check out with I only had 8 boxes of cereal. She laughed and said go get 12 more. What? Then when she said they were only .49 a box I took her up on it. Then I stopped by my friends house and gave her 10 boxes. She was so excited. I love my King Soopers.

dont see this adding up to $5.40?? should be $12 or more based on what she said
Kimber says
Are you counting the e-coupons as coming off twice? Maybe that’s the difference? The e-coupons took off $14, the free product coupons took off $3.98, the “Buy 5” promotion took off $10.
Kimber says
After the “Buy 5” promotion, the cereal was $1.99, and the e-coupon brought them down to 49 cents. The fruit snacks were also 49 cents, and the juice was free (except for the 50 cent coupon error).

Kimber, great job on the kroger deal. I’m in Texas too and am Operation Christmas Child shoebox filling and shopping and now sewing crazy. If you want to share information, email me at [email protected]. Because I can’t just volunteer in one area, can I?
Kimber says
Awesome, Rhonda! I LOVE my shoebox “habit”! :o) I am in Dallas – where are you?

Houston, I bet we can keep comparing deals.

Wow! I do shop @ Kroger regularly, so this is very encouraging to me. Maybe I can scout out and take advantage of some great deals!

Moneysavingmom has been a big help. The Krazy Coupon Lady also has weekly matchups for the Kroger sales – if you haven’t checked her out, you might want to take a peek.

Way to go! It’s such a great feeling when you walk out of the store with a deal like that!
Kimber says
Thanks – it was awesome! I kept waiting for something to go wrong at the register, but it was a flawless transaction. Kroger is winning me over again, after a two-year almost-strike since they stopped doubling my coupons! 🙂

Way to go!! I also did this sale…but I wanted to point out that I first tried it with the smaller boxes bc I didn’t notice the deal on the larger boxes AND the coupon didn’t work. I went back and did it with bigger ones and it did work. So, I don’t know if it was a fluke or if the $6 coupon is only good on the big ones. If you are on the ball and notice the better deal, this won’t be an issue for you! Ha!
Kimber says
I didn’t even notice – I just got lucky! 🙂
Anne says
It was only on the bigger sized boxes; please check the fine print online if you’re going to try to use this coupon.
I did this deal, too, although in the Seattle-area I paid $0.99/box. I’ve read in local blogs that some people had problems with the e-coupon not coming off. My guess is they accidentally bought the wrong sized boxes.

I stopped by Kroger yesterday, too, and stocked up on cereal… We actually love using the multigrain Cheerios to make cereal bars (basically like rice crispy treats) as snacks, adding nuts and raisins, peanut butter & chocolate chips, whatever combo sounds good. And they are delicious! Also finances have been so tight this year, yet I still want to be able to help some of the families around me when they have surgeries, a newborn, death in the family, etc… So I started taking a breakfast instead of a supper, like banana muffins or bagels, etc… This week since I got to stock up on cereal, I now have some kid friendly cereal to give to some families in our church going through things!
Amy R says
Please give your cereal bar quantities! I’d love to try that with some of the cereal I bought!

I “cheat” and just follow the recipe on the bag of marshmallows (I have tried other recipes with honey, butter, etc… instead of marshmallows, but this is easier and not super unhealthy)… Which is 6 cups of cereal, 3 T. of butter melted, and 1 bag of marshmallows (or 40 regular sized marshmallows). For using the cheerios (and multigrain are our favorite), I put them in a gallon ziplock bag and crush them with a rolling pin so they are just chunky and not whole anymore. Here are some of the variations we’ve made (with 6-7 cups of crushed cheerios:
“Peanut butter chocolate chip”: 2 T. of butter and 2 T. of peanut butter (instead of the 3T like in the recipe) and 1 cup of chocolate chips. They melt as you mix and are super yummy. *Additional awesomeness we tried this week was doing 2 cups of Reese’s cereal and 4 cups of Cheerios as the cereal base…
“Oatmeal raisin”: 1 cup of raisins, 1-2 t. of cinnamon, and 1/2 cup of ground instant oatmeal for additional substance
“Trail Mix” bars: depending on what you like, 1/2 cup of raisins/cranberries, with 1 cup of chopped almonds, pecans, or peanuts
“Chocolate Trail Mix”: Same as above, but drizzle melted white (or milk) chocolate on top. Adds sweetness without too much… or melt enough to cover the entire top, then when they cool and you cut them, flip them over and they have have that granola bar look that store bought ones have…
If anyone has any other yummy ideas, post them!
