Just a personal story: Last year for Christmas I took advantage of several JCP toy deals because the prices were great! However, the toys were junk. Thankfully I opened them and looked at them before wrapping for Christmas. I returned everything I had purchased because they were cheap, flimsy, and were not going to last. For what I had paid, I could get a better toy elsewhere, even with the discounts. I then researched reviews and found I was not the only one who had returned many toys to JCP.
I recommend researching the toy itself, the brand, customer reviews etc on sites other than JCP, then decide if it is a good deal/worthwhile toy. Hopefully this year they have added good quality brands to their toy list!

I was just going to post the same as Amy. In my basement right now is a broken doll carriage we got on JCP online last Christmas, totally broken. I’m keep forgetting to sneak it out to the trash while my daughter is sleeping, because she will be so sad to see it go. But it’s junk.
Another thing I bought on there billed itself as a dress-up bin. It turned out to be a small, decorated cardboard box, big enough to hold doll clothes but not kids’ dress-up clothes. Total rip-off.

I’ve had my order in my cart since last night…I can’t get past the sale page now. I think the traffic must have influenced the site…and it’s stuck.
    as of 11am CST
I am hoping to finalize my order today…I will be getting 4 cmas presents for my family for less than $20…plus ship. I know I could get the free ship to the store…but honestly if I go in there to pick this stuff up I will surely spend even more….so paying the shipping actually saves me money! LOL

  • If you’re looking for a great microscope, Home Science tools has some wonderful, quality microscopes. They have a sale right now where several microscopes are not only on sale (some $70 off!) but several of them include a microscope starter kit that has several prepared slides and blank slides and cover slips (the kit is usually $24.99, but it’s free with many microscopes from them right now). Also, they have a deal through the 11th:

“From 11/4 – 11/11, you get a $10 gift certificate for every $50 you spend by entering PCERT11 at checkout! ”

We have a microscope that was bought at a thrift store for $3. It was probably about $100 new; it’s a Discovery channel one. But, 2 of the lenses aren’t working right, and I’ve been researching microscopes since Monday. My grandmother agreed to make it a family gift for all of the children for Christmas. This will be a huge deal for my children (they love the other one but want to really see things, and the magnification on the thrift store one is only 50 times on the low lens, which is the only one that still works).
I want a great tool that they can use for school that will allow them to see live specimens as well (the lights on many microscopes are too hot for that) and where we can see clearly. I chose something that they can use through high school, so that we don’t need a nicer one later. In addition, the microscopes from them come with a lifetime warranty.

Their shipping is only $6.95 for the entire order, too!

I really appreciate this review. I’d like to get one for my science minded 8 year old, but I haven’t known where to start.

I got a set of dress-up capes form Penney’s last year. They did come in a cardboard box, but my 5 year old has had a ton of fun with them. I think a good rule of thumb is always to read the reviews.

  • I hope you didn’t mind me posting that comment, Crystal.

If you’ve only got $20 to sepnd, I think the one from JCPenny looks a lot like the one we’ve been using, and it will still be a lot of fun for young children.

Costco is selling microscopes now for $20. It’s in the Christmas toys section. I will buy one there because they have a very good return policy.

  • TraceyK says:

I have to agree with the above reviews. I have ordered some items/toys from JCPenny as well and have been less then okay with their product.

    Home Science is awesome!
