wow! base price listed whether regular or on sale are unheard of here in MA.
i’d be happy with those prices without coupons 🙂
Crystal says
Do you happen to have a Kroger store there? If so, you’ll probably be able to get similar prices/sales as the Dillon’s deals listed there. And Aldi is in MA too (not sure if it’s near you), but the prices will be somewhat similar there, as well.

Gretchen, Last week I think you said you have to eat dairy-free? But tons of these recipes call for milk or cheese. What do you eat instead of those things? 🙂 (Or maybe you answered this last week…if so, maybe someone could reply and tell me that and I’ll go find it 🙂 )
The Parkerhouse rolls look so good!

I use Almond Milk in place of milk in most recipes (I stocked up on this a few months ago when I found a great sale). As far as cheese goes, if I buy the sharp cheddar cheese, it doesn’t bother me as long as I don’t eat very much of it. Sharp cheddar cheese is the only cheese that I’ve found which I can eat small portions of and not have a reaction (when I researched dairy allergies, it seemed that a lot of people with dairy allergies can eat sharp cheddar cheese).
Some of these recipes also include cream cheese. I haven’t yet determined whether cream cheese bothers me or not so I guess I will find out this week (we haven’t had cream cheese in our house for about a year and I only discovered I have a dairy allergy about 5 months ago).
I hope that helps!
Diana says
That does help–thanks! Interesting that the sharp cheddar doesn’t bother you–maybe it’s the lactose bothering you instead of the casein or whey proteins? Hope you find out about the cream cheese without too many ill effects 🙂

Gretchen, could I ask what your weekly grocery budget is?
Gretchen says
I try to stay in the $35-$50 range.

I am curious if yall stick to your menu planning? I try to but it seems no one in the house is in the mood for what I have planned.
Jen says
I don’t know about the author, but I had to strike a balance between winging it every night and planning each day of the week….. I feel suffocated when I think I HAVE to make something a certain night, because what if I don’t feel like it or don’t get around to doing the prep in time, etc? So before I shop, I make a list of about 5 meals for that week, and I’ll use those as my guide. I always make sure to ask my husband if there’s something he’s hungry for that week. My kids are too little, they have to go with the flow! That leaves two meals to either go out, or have breakfast for dinner, or leftovers, etc. If I don’t do this bare minimum plan, then I’m at the grocery store 3 or more times in a week to pick up what I need that night!
Gretchen says
I make out the menu plan for the week and then every night I get my menu plan “list” out and give my husband a few options for dinner from the list. I can’t stand to be tied down to making a certain meal on a certain day either. I have found this works great for us. And yes, I DO have days that nothing on the menu plan sounds good (or I’m too lazy to spend that much time in the kitchen after a loooong day) so I make something easy from my stockpile (spaghetti and homemade cheese pizza are our favorite go-to easy meals and I always have ingredients for those on hand). 🙂

We don’t have Dillon’s here in MN. but I try to find deals as they come. A local gas station, that I have never even gone to before, had gallon milk 2/ $3!! There’s no limit and it was a month long sale so we’ve been buying 4-8 gallons a week and filling our freezer.
Then today there was an amazing deal on kraft cheese. Basically you end up with 5 packages of cheese for .20cents each. And ground beef 80/20 was $1.99 a pound.
So we fill blessed when these types of sales happen so we can stock up.
I can’t always coupon but when deals like this happen we can stock up and save in the long run.

Gretchen, I am totally jealous of your shopping. In fact, I’m getting back into couponing because of your shopping trips!
Gretchen says
Yay! I’m glad to hear that!
Jody says
I just love these posts! I enjoy seeing the groceries you are getting being used and most of the time pretty healthy! Love it! Thanks 🙂

Thanks, Jody! 🙂
