Can we maybe not call them freebies. It just feels like trivializing what is happening. It’s the word that comes to mind but maybe Retailers Rally for Furloughed Government Employees or something like that. Freebies, just doesn’t sit right. Like “Oooh Freebies” not “I have no paycheck.”

    • Thanks for sharing your opinion… while I see your point and never want to trivialize it, I also know that a LOT more people will actually see the post (thanks to SEO and freebies being more of a buzzword) if I use the word “freebies”. That’s my ultimate heart and hope — that it will help brighten days and encourage as many people as possible who are struggling right now because of this.

However, if you are a furloughed government employee and you felt offended by this, please let me know (I’m not sure whether you are or not, Sarah. And if you are and I offended you, I’m so sorry!) I have used that word multiple times in the past week in sharing these types of things on videos and in posts and have heard from so many who were SO excited and not one of them mentioned being bothered by the word. I never want to come across as offensive if I can possibly help it!

I am a federal employee, which will not receive my second paycheck this coming weekend. I am the breadwinner in my home, my husband’s income has been the one we are depending on but he does not make much. I am grateful for him and being the priest of our home. If it was not for this website, throughout the years, I do not know how we would have managed our finances. NO, I am not offended by the word freebies, it does not bother me…I am grateful for freebies, discounts, etc. and moneysaving mom is one of the websites that has acknowledged federal employees. Thank you Crystal for everything you do and I pray the Lord will continue to guide you and give you peace, always!!
