I saw this on pinterest and am planning on doing it for my niece with a b&n and an itunes giftcard, but something kind of odd happened with the itunes giftcard: i had both giftcards in the jar with the lid on to keep it all together before christmas (i hadn’t added the water or anything yet). Yesterday when i happened to look i saw that there was condensation inside the jar. When i took th cards out i saw that the ink from the itunes card had started to run and it had kind of changed colors. The consistency of the card was a little soggy and the inside of the jar smelled a bit rank.
My closest guess is that apple makes their giftcards out of recycled materials and it was starting to biodegrade inside the jar?? At any rate, i took everything out, let it dry off and wrote down all the numbers off both cards just in case they get ruined after being fully immersed in water. Just wanted to let others know!

That’s a good point!

I was just wondering if it could possible ruin the card somehow… Good to know. Adorable idea if u were able to find a way to get around it. Maybe if u find an inexpensive picture snowglobe, maybe a giftcard would fit inside there? I find them inexpensive at CVS around this time.

You could always laminate the gift cards before you put them in the water. Though, that’s a bit of work! 😉

Exactly what I was thinking! 😀

I just made it with Target ones, and it seems to be working well. I did melt the corner of the gift card with the glue gun. oops:)
