So how did your Monday go? Mine went remarkably well — which was not what I was expecting after us all being sick and completely off any routine last week and few weeks of us being mostly off school.
I am trying to get back to really early, early rising again. To the tune of 3:30 a.m. Yes, I have up and lost my mind. 🙂
But this morning, I was so grateful that I got up early because I had a lot of computer work to catch up on and my laptop crashed yesterday, so I was working on my husband’s laptop… which was clearly invented in the time of the dinosaurs. Or at least that’s what it felt like when the thing was working at a snail’s pace. (Have I mentioned I don’t have a lot of patience when it comes to slow computers??)
Instead of being frustrated, though, I decided to focus on the positive: that I usually have a fast computer, that I an internet connection at all, that my computer is under warranty, and that I have a backup computer to work on.
After crawling through all my morning computer work, I finished up, spent some time reading my Bible and studying John 4. Then I exercised with Silas (who was the only up at the time) and then let him play an educational game on the computer while I took a shower.
When I was ready for the day, I got the girls up, we had breakfast (Purple Power smoothies — see the ingredients here), and read our devotional and some from Aesop’s Fables.
While the kids were finishing up their breakfast, I wrote out chore lists for them (their chores change a little each day depending upon what needs to be done — I’m also divvying up the Confident Mom Planner chores between us all) and they go busy on their lists.
I cleaned up the kitchen, started some laundry, cleaned up my room, made my bed, washed Kathrynne’s hair and fixed it, and helped Silas with his chores.
We then sat down for Morning Time. Oh how I think this idea is going to be such a gift to our homeschooling. It went SO well today and was so fun to have time set aside to do those things I always hope we would get to but always seem to be crowded out by math, grammar, and so on.
After we were done with Morning Time, Jesse got home and made lunch for the kids, got them started on the core subjects for the day while I worked on cleaning out the bathroom closet.
I pulled most of the items out, reorganized and consolidated, threw a few things out, and moved some of the extra bottles to the second bathroom where were have some empty storage shelves. And within around 25 minutes, the closet looked SO much better!
Believe it or not, by 12:30 p.m., I had finished my entire Morning List. I guess the getting up early thing really does work well. 🙂
I spent the afternoon working on blog projects, writing this post on my South Africa secret, and getting caught up on emails.
And then tonight we had our usual weekly Monday night gathering with friends. We all brought stuff for a Taco Bar and an Ice Cream Bar. It’s always an evening filled with a lot of laughing, ribbing, and just so much fun. We’re grateful for this group of friends that God has given us and how much they bless us each week.
How was YOUR day? Leave a comment and tell us about it and you’ll be entered to win this stack of goodies I put together — including a few brand-new books by dear friends of mine!

I had to go back to work after 13 days off. Bummer! But we made it through the first day back at school/work.
Janelle says
Ahh, Sally Clarkson’s book…I would love to read that! So inspired by listening to you ladies on the webcast for the new book….
On productivity… I have so much to learn. I keep telling myself to get up earlier to be able to get more done during the daylight so I can have more time to play and be present with my little ones, but I always end up staying up late because it’s so quiet then, and that just feels so peaceful and about the only time to get things done or have time to just think. But then we get a slow start in the mornings…. hmmmm…..
Lauren says
Our Monday was one of those sad, back to reality days where my husband went back to work after a long holiday weekend. We tried to be productive, though, and took all the Christmas stuff down. Why does oct-dec seem to fly? 🙂
Mychele says
I had an outstanding Monday! Always one of my favorite days of the week. I was able to get some cleaning and time in my art studio before my daughter’s Girl Scout troop arrived for a fun filled afternoon. We ended the evening with our new tradition of family time meals which we started this week- it’s been transformative in a very short amount of time! All in all a successful, joy filled day! Thank you for writing such an engaging and inspiring blog.
tiffany says
What a productive day! Mine was filled with really ordinary chores, but the great part was that the two girls home with me played really well together while I did my thing. A good day for sure!
Elissa says
This Monday I started back up with babysitting & it went so smoothly! It felt good to be back in a rhythm again. Thanks for writing such a great, inspiring & practical blog – I’ve really been enjoying it lately! And I love your book lists – I always check out as many as I can from from my library!
Tamboliya says
Did not get much done b/c I haven’t been feeling well but did accomplish this: I read & highlighted in the book THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST by Andrew Murray and in 2 Devotionals by the author Sarah Young that friends bought me: JESUS CALLING and JESUS TODAY. I sang 2 friends “Happy Birthday” on each of their voicemails. I set up an appointment & put it on calendar, spent quality time cuddling w/ pets and then fed pets & scooped litter boxes. Checked snail mail, email and ran an errand. Downloaded free ebooks, signed up for samples, listened to sermons on radio, fixed 2 flags that fell down in garden, ate, became a listening ear to a friend vent about how horrible her holidays were, etc. 🙂
Lisa L says
My day today has been pretty relaxed–day 2 of no school for us because of snow/dangerously cold weather! So the kids have played, I have caught up on some computer work and it’s been nice!! I may have to go redirect them right now, however because I think they are playing in the tub as they pretend to go fishing!! lol
Beth says
Monday was very cold and blizzardy here. Got laundry done, ate good, short on drinking water, did heat some to drink. Way to cold to think of having a purple Vita-mix smoothie, although have had for years. Would love new books! Thanks for all you do.
Becky J says
A cold day here- yet exquisite in beauty-for God’s fingerprints are certainly ALL around! 🙂
Amy B says
We had kind of a rough day–I have a 2.5 year old and a 6 month old, and the grandparents just left after playing with the kids for a week. So the 2.5 year old wasn’t very interested in doing chores, listening to mom, etc. But my mom offered to watch the kids for a few hours so I could get a nap and have a long quiet time with God, so that was a nice treat/way to recharge!
Trish says
Congratulations on getting up early! I am not a morning person at all, so this is hard for me. My day didn’t go as smoothly as I would have hoped either, but there is always tomorrow 🙂
Stacy says
Busy day at our house…worked all day and then came home to get things picked up and then worked out!
Kimmya says
My Monday was great! First day back to school/preschool for kids so after I dropped my son off I went and got my nails done with a gift card I got for Christmas and got a coffee while I did my weekly grocery shopping:) so not all that productive but I did get some decluttering done and have a big goodwill pile started.
CynthiaJo says
It was a slow day here. Kids first day back to school so I was able to get back to my regular schedule for a while. Our Christmas vacation was pretty hectic and everything suffered to one degree or another. With all the regular activities we also had a wedding that I made cupcakes for and my husband was the best man so it was nuts around here! But I got a few things done today and I’m so glad. It’s nice to just get the laundry done! LOL
Cara says
I’m really working on starting a morning routine, but have had a lot of trouble getting started! I overslept this morning and it has really thrown me off! I hate feeling this way, but I will try again tomorrow!
CW says
I caught up on the laundry, played multiplication bingo with the kids, and planned this week’s meals. We also had a preschool friend visit for a while, attended a board meeting, and picked up a car load of bread to distribute to neighbors. It sounds like a busy day, but I had plenty of down time too.
Pamela says
My Monday was great because we were still on vacation! My daughter’s birthday is on the 10th so we don’t resume our regular schedule until after her big day. I love that we home school.
Darla says
After 2 weeks off for Christmas, I was afraid that we would have a hard time getting back into things, too, but we had a productive Monday! My oldest daughter was applying for a college English class and that took some extra time, but overall we were able to get done most of the things on our to do list!
Rachel says
My first Monday in January went really well. I’m still on break (my school/work is back in session next Monday. I began with reading chapter 1 of Exodus from Women Living Well’s Bible study. I read The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren (with my hubby who is a new believer!), A Confident Heart Devotional by Renee Swope, and some of a book called Beloved Dust I’m studying with my church’s small group. I ate well and exercised (doing a fun fitness challenge called Fit in 15 from Jessica Smith TV (all workouts are free –and less than 15 min–on YouTube so I can do them from home). Overall, I’m happy about my Monday. I go back to work next week so I’m really enjoying this time to read and continue/re-establish good habits for 2015.
I’d love to win the stack of books! Saw the webcast for Own Your Life tonight. It was exciting to hear you speak! Keep up the amazing work. So blessed by your blog. Also, I recently got your book and am planning to read that soon!

Today was a good day, back for the school co-op and the kids were really excited. Tonight one of my teen daughters n I, Zentangled together, very therapeutic!
Thanks for the opportunity…. Blessings.

Our Monday was spent getting the house back in order and dealing with extended family and the unexpected arrival of our nephew at 33 weeks. Mom and baby are doing well for where they are. Emotionally draining day. Thankful for great medical care. We officially started back to school today. 🙂
HoosierMom says
Oh my, what a day it’s been! My new fridge and freezer has been freezing the fridge and defrosting the freezer, and it gets stinkier and stinkier. So the repairman came today and says it has to be replaced. So it had to be emptied out because it was nearing 60 degrees in there. It’s about 40 degrees in our garage, so some things can go out there.
This morning I found out friends were in the area, so we invited them for supper. Thankfully, God nudged me to plan my supper last night, so I was able to make a good meal for them on short notice.
Crabby baby, uncooperative 4-year-old, unpacking from a trip, unpacking from a move, an unexpected visitor in the afternoon, and the sad fridge pulled out in the middle of my kitchen. But I survived it all, with plenty of grace. And bed awaits.
Kristin says
My Monday was super productive! I’m getting so much more done each day now that I’m taking the time to write everything that should get done in my planner! I have totally empty kitchen counters right now…that never has happened before!
Elizabeth says
My day went well. I’m starting a new job and starting to feel the hang of it.
Sarah says
Mine was amazingly smooth as well! I accomplished several things and felt present in my day! Finding joy in it all!

Returned to teaching after two weeks off. I realized that I just had to start back in and encourage my students who were still hoping for more time off 🙂 Had a good day and a relaxing evening with my family.
Carolynn@mylittlebitoflife says
I had a great Monday as well, in fact I was reflecting on it and was grateful as well. Today I didn’t get as much done, but that’s alright. Tomorrow’s a new day!
Karla says
I had great intentions today, but they fell far short. I intended on working out after AM drop off and then getting all the housework done during school hours. Instead I found myself on my butt watching a show on DVD I’ve been wanting to catch up on. I felt very guilty, but realized I’ve been very busy with work and just needed some brainless decompressing time. Tonight I got a lot done though and I’ll be ready to go tomorrow too.
Sally says
We said goodbye to our dear relatives today, nieces/nephew and brother/sister-in-law. They headed back to Arizona and we worked on taking down Christmas decorations. Loved seeing the devo you’re doing with your kids…I’m always looking for good ones.
Sheri says
I had a busy day: I worked, went grocery shopping, took my daughter to band practice and then had to pick her up and now catching up on “me” time.
jamila says
My Monday was pretty packed trying to catch up after being gone over the holidays. I felt blessed with how much God helped me accomplish.
Tricia says
Today was one of those rare days when I felt like I accomplished a ton of stuff….several loads of laundry, decluttering some kitchen cabinets, and caught up on grading the kids homeschool papers. It was a wonderful day.
Chrissy Roberts says
What time do you go to sleep every night??
Crystal Paine says
My goal is to go to bed at 8 p.m. if I’m going to get up at 3:30 a.m. We’ll see if I can actually consistently follow through with that and make it become a habit. I find that I really need at least 7 hours of good sleep at night to function well during the day.
Jamie says
A great day today has been!! I woke up to 3 healthy and happy babies, a wonderfully supportive husband and a job that helps support our family.
Leslie says
We started the new year sick, so its been slow going, but homeschool has started again and its good to be back to our schedule!
Jen says
I’m in a job transition. I’m looking forward to my new job. But, having to continue my old job for a little while longer. So my day was pushing through so I can rejoice in something new soon!
Celeste says
It was a day anyway! Took the kids to an indoor pool swimming, had a nice chat over tea with my sister, made dinner, now going to work out! By the way…..what kind of blender do you have?
Kindra says
I actually got distracted by taking my vacuum apart and cleaning it all out.
That being said, I did vacuum today, teach my kiddos some school work, and clean out our mud room.
Heather says
My day was not nearly as productive as yours! And I did not get up anywhere close to 3:30am….more like 8am. Been in a rut since New Years Eve and can’t get to sleep before 1am! We got school done today, had some play time and I went to work. Really not productive at all lol but hoping to get back into a good routine this week.
Jen Whetten says
Our day was productive but crazy. Life with toddlers is certainly never boring!
Angie says
A good day, got some things accomplished that needed done. It was an overall quiet day, gotta love those!
Leah Pipkorn says
My Monday was rather chaotic, but I did get a good amount accomplished. 🙂
Rosario says
My day at work was hectic, trying to close the prior year, working with auditor and processing payroll truly calls for a relaxing evening. Praying for a netter tomorrow.
Megan S says
My day was crazy, but good. It’s always a little crazy in my house when I have my 16 month old niece to add to the mix! ( I have an 8th month old and 2 1/2 year old.) It’s always fun watching them play together though so I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Suzanne says
Honestly my Monday was rough. My car that I had just spent twenty minutes for because I have been driving it for thirteen years got hit while parked in my parents driveway. It is probably totaled. I spent several hours today on the phone with insurance companies trying to get my car towed and get a rental so I can go to work tomorrow.
Amy says
My daughter went back to school yesterday, and I did a grocery run and picked up some books at the library. I also made two batches of stuffed shells – one for dinner, and one for the freezer.
Rhonda says
Today?! Totally overwhelming. I woke up anticipating a phone call from my surgeon to tell me the results of a breast biopsy that I had yesterday, so nerves were high right away. Everything turned out just fine, praise God! However, homeschooling my youngest was a bit frustrating and then we were interrupted by a message from my oldest daughter’s high school, saying that they were evacuated due to a bomb threat and that I was to pick her up at a warehouse where they were moved to. The whole process was less than stellar, but by the grace of God, we got through it, everyone is safe, and I am on my way to pajamas and hot chocolate very soon. Exhausted!
Crystal Paine says
I’m so grateful that everything turned out okay — what a tense day!
Allison says
We also had a much better Monday than I was expecting, but a lot of running around for ballet and gymnastics wore me out !
Erin Branscom says
Love your idea for getting up early. And we love smoothies! So excited for your Africa trip! 🙂
Jenn says
My day was long and tiring trying to get all of us back into routine. And like every single time I asked myself “Why do I EVER let us get out of routine?”
Lauren says
My day was not nearly as productive, but good nonetheless! That smoothie looks YUMMY!
Elizabeth says
Today wasn’t the best day, but it was interesting, for sure! I am really looking forward to Sally Clarkson’s webcast tonight! Been looking forward to it all day! 🙂
Christyl says
My Monday was totally not like I would have planned, but thankfully God knew and helped me handle the surprises along the way – like my four year old daughter who forgot to go potty before bed so she was all wet in the morning before school! Praise the Lord as I was able to get them to school on time and washed both my kids’ comforters, pillows, and sheets which needed to be done anyways! And my very sick husband was home and helped me out a little too, bless him!
Kim says
I didn’t get a lot of extra done today. It was the first day back after break. But I did get the “routine” things done!
Jessica says
My day was great. I stayed inside all day because it’s 30 below zero and school will be two hours late tomorrow due to the cold, so tomorrow will be a good day too.
Crystal Paine says
So are you located in Alaska, too? One of my Alaska readers said it was 30 below there today.
Jessica says
No, Minnesota. But I guess we are as cold as Alaska. That seems crazy! Thanks for reading my post.
Anna says
I dropped my parents off at the airport after their visit and headed to work. It was a little rough after being out for a week, but quickly jumped back into things.
Bethany says
Today was a good day. Got a lot of little things done.
Katie S says
I implemented a new family cleaning time for 15 minutes after dinner that I think is going to work so well!
I’d love to win the stack of books. Thanks for the opportunity!
Jennifer hodges says
3:30 is so early-I don’t think that I could ever do that! I’m impressed! I find it really hard to get up before there is light outside. I really wish I could get myself to get up two hours earlier each day- I could get so much more accomplished.
Faith Still says
We are all still recovering from head colds, but we managed to get chores done and I had a hearty healthy dinner on the table of terriyaki chicken, rice, and steamed broccoli.
Erin says
Pretty good! Kids went back to school yesterday and I just have my 2 yr old at home with me during the day. Using a list I’ve been able to get quite a bit done while she plays quietly. Deleting the FB app from my phone has also helped me get less distracted
Dori says
I was “stress paralyzed” for a while, and my 15 year-old daughter noticed. She offered to cook the three freezer meals I had planned so I could make my list and do my homeschool preparations. I prioritized and chipped away at the list. It didn’t all get done quickly, but it did get done. Thankful for her and my other 4 children.
Robin Lynch says
Well my Minday was a very exciting say. I started my new job. Although I was missing information about my first day since the change happened so quickly I made the best of it all. My youngest must have known we were getting back to routine as he slept / woke at more normaal intervals than he had been the last few weeks. I woke up refreshed and got lots of little things crossed off my list before I headed out to work. The day seemed to fly by.
Danielle says
Mondays are the hardest day of the week for me and especially for the first day back to school after a long winter break. I drove children to school, doctors appointments and athletic practice. In between all the running I stopped at the office and picked up my work for the week, and worked at home decluttering. No t to mention the reguar daily household chorse thrown in the mix. I feel like I’m never done no matter how hard I try. Tuesdays I get up to repeat most of it again, and then I just decide to be happy that I’m able to run in so many directions and participate in the lives of my loved ones. Thanks for the encouraging post.
Jilla says
Today was not too bad, considering it has been incredibly hard to get the kids back into the school groove after being off. The kids got all their work done. I walked to the near by store (in the freezing cold) to pick up some things for dinner. I made some sushi as a snack….love You Tube! I made my mom’s famous potato salad as a side for dinner.
april says
It was a good and productive day today! I had an answer to prayer today when a very simple answer and solution came to me on how to deal with some clutter and clean-up issues with my kids’ rooms. Excited to finish my decluttering/organizing project to see if it works! Also tried a new recipe in the crockpot….it was inexpensive, easy, everyone liked it, and there are leftovers!
kim t. says
my day was not quite as well as yours. we are in the middle of a very stressful time and I find it so hard to focus on what’s right vs. what I want. they should be the same thing! 🙂
Elizabeth S says
Monday was our first day back to school and it went remarkably well. I was thankful!
Jen says
I woke up at 5:30 AM, worked out, showered, and ate breakfast. I then headed off to work. When I got home, I rode my bike to a nearby park and enjoyed some hiking and sitting around by the waterfall for a bit. I came home and did a P90X workout, showered, and ate dinner. Then I watched a little bit of “The Bachelor” (my guilty pleasure) and went to bed.
Tara M says
My day went like I expected…..I did a few things on my list and then fizzled out. Someday….. Great books, by the way! I have several of those on my want list! 🙂
Maria says
I love reading about your day!
Deana says
We had a tough day with attitudes after being off from homeschool for two weeks. We still managed to get some things done and get to karate class on time! Counts as a win for me.
Lou p says
Crazy! Back to work after a nice christmas vacation was hard!
doris says
Got venison/pork out of freezer and made 10 meals of meatballs to put in freezer! Got the homeschooling done. Got the laundry done. Good day!!

Woke up late but recovered very nicely. Cleaned and organized games and book shelves. Great day.
Erica says
I had a productive Monday. I got the Christmas thank yous in the mailbox and uploaded christmas pics to print! Those things had been on my list for too many days!
Yanira says
Awesome Monday morning for you! I am not a morning person but with the New Year I decided to make changes, one being getting up earlier, and incorporating things that I want to do but never get a chance too. As the days go by I will be adding a new thing. Yesterday, I did a load of laundry and folded the one from the night before, made full breakfasts for my girls (eggs, english muffin and turkey bacon) opposed to a rushed cereal, and we were able to leave the house a full half hour earlier than usual. Thank you for always being so encouraging.
Brighid says
It was incredibly busy! We’ve just started a multi-month volunteer effort that will pretty much take every evening and Saturday. It means being really organized in order to fly out the door at 5:20!
Erin says
Today my toddler slept in and I was up an hour and half before him! It felt great to plan out my meals for the week and my grocery list for this afternoon without anyone tugging on my leg 🙂
Melanie says
I spent the day playing games and having fun with my kids before they went back to school.

kids were still home…….so did basics….back to school today. Yeah……laundry, cleaned up from weekend, made a pot of soup, went through youngest clothes, odds & ends
Lisa says
My Monday went better than expected too.
Star says
My Monday went remarkably well too, especially since it was our first day back to the school routine. I made it a point to have my green smoothie before getting my son to the bus stop and managed to spend some time reading scriptures. Once those two things were accomplished I was ready to take on my list which included teaching our co-op preschool group, baking homemade pretzels with the preschoolers, sending emails, making a batch of homemade granola, updating our budget/receipt recording, and a few other things. I even managed to get the dishes done while my husband got the kids ready for bed. We had our weekly family night and I managed to get some reading (Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey) done before bed. I was shocked that the day went as well as it did! Here is to new years and new beginnings!
Kristin says
Excellent day. I started my year with a weekly schedule for the time my kids are in school and my regular commitments. I then marked “open times” to fill with household, administrative, and self-care items on my daily & weekly list. Limited decisions do help! I also tried the “eat a frog” (by noon in my case) which gave a me a great sense of accomplishment for the day. I am now working on creating a “frog list” of backlogged projects to tackle as part of my daily routine.
Jessica W says
I’ve been reading your book Say Goodbye to Survival Mode and tried implementing a few strategies. I was able to knock off a lot of overdue important phone calls by letting my 11 month old crawl around the house like a madman while I followed on the phone. I kept a piece of paper and pen in my pocket in case I needed to take notes. Then I strapped him to my back and put away a huge pile of laundry on top of the dryer. He loved all the back and forth walking, I was able to make a dent in the laundry and got some exercise. My proudest accomplishment was taking 15 minutes during my son’s nap to review our family’s finances and create doable goals to reduce debt and save more.
Jessi says
We did a light load of homeschool as we are recovering from a slow-moving virus among the kiddos. It was nice to get back into a semi-routine. Grateful for new beginnings and time outside in the sunshine before this arctic blast hits later in the week!

I had a good day getting back into the groove of doing school with the kids!

Hooray for fantastic Mondays! I’ve been praying each morning for the Lord to multiply my efforts, and have found He is so faithful in doing so. When I keep myself on task (like yesterday!) I am able to accomplish so much more than I imagined. Thanks for sharing!! 🙂

My mind seemed determined to worry over a persistent problem and I hated how it was ruining my day. I finally strapped on my cross country skis and cranked up some happy music on my ipod. After several trips around our pasture, life didn’t seem so bad after all!
Stephanie says
I spent the day at the doctor with my one year old who has a double ear infection and a sinus infection. Then we spent the afternoon reading books on the couch and cuddling. Just what everyone needed!
Linda says
Considering it was the first Monday back to our normal routine after almost two weeks out of town (and with a 2 hour time change), it went fairly well.

Our day was good. Homeschool, a few minutes of exercise, errands, a good supper :-), and doin dishes in hot water keepin me warm!!!

My mother and I had a fun outing: 90% off at Target and 80% off at Michael’s- and I only brought home useful, needed items. Plus we had lunch out! Shipped 2 ebay items and listed 2 more. An American Heritage Girl’s meeting (love that organization!) and a run for nearby CVS deals. Would love Ruth’s new book!
Tina says
Had a busy morning yesterday getting the kids back to school after Christmas break but the rest of the day went smoothly.
Mel says
Crystal,
3:30 AM???? I used to wonder how you get everything done and felt very inadequate that I didn’t accomplish even half of what you do on a regular basis. But now I know your secret: you just don’t sleep! I could probably accomplish all you do if I dropped four hours of sleep every night … though I’d be back dealing with adrenal fatigue and a host of other health issues all over again.
I hope — for the sake of your long-term health and happiness — that you are getting adequate sleep!
Crystal Paine says
Yes, I’m a HUGE fan of sleep. 🙂 I try to average 7 to 7.5 hours per night, at least. I usually sneak in 8-9 hours on the weekends. I’ve found if I get any less than 7 hours on a consistent basis, I start to feel really tired and run down.
Mel says
Oh good! I’m glad to hear that! I like your website too much to see it disappear because you aren’t getting enough sleep. 🙂
Ruth says
I put things away (Christmas presents) and organized a changing table with my boys socks & underthings. I am going to potty train soon and need to be prepared. I also cleaned out the fridge and made hash brown casserole and put 2 freezer bags in the freezer for the future. I am trying to meal plan better and not be wasteful.
Kris says
The weather was just about perfect here on Monday, so I walked around the neighborhood for the first time in a very long while. Aside from that, my day had pockets of bad stress, but I had fun researching some fishing tackle I’m thinking of saving up for when I move.
Ashley says
Pretty good, first time in a while that school is back on track. No more sickness, always good!
Amber says
We had an amazing Monday! With it being -30 and still dark here in Alaska, I thought nothing would get done. Boy, did the Lord change my mind. Kids got up with a great attitude, school work got done in a timely manner. We even managed to pre cook dinner before heading out to Girl Scouts. Wonderful Monday 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Yikes -30 in Alaska!!!
Eunice White says
Like you I had a surprisingly good and productive day. That was unexpected after being so off our normal routine. I got some laundry, tidying and crafts done. As well as making two loaves of bread and homemade veggie soup. So unlike today that seems to be the discouraging day I was expecting yesterday!
Christen says
So glad to be getting the house back in order after the holidays! I am very inspired by your bathroom closet work, I think I’ll work on mine today!

I had a beautiful day. The weather was nice and sunny, and I had the day off from work. I caught up on some rest and visited with my Mom and Dad.
Diane says
My Monday was great; the last day of vacation for my sons before going back to school. They decided to spend the day in their pajamas, and they made a list of all the things they wanted to do (guess where they get that from?) so life was easy!
Bethany says
Happy Monday! 🙂 We spent it feeding and tending to our herd of cows before cold weather and snow hit! My husband feeds hay and straw in the tractor, and I drove the pickup. (without getting stuck!! :)) Our kids helped and then we spent the afternoon doing a couple loads of laundry and cleaning. I always love Mondays, it’s a good time to reset and change direction.
Great stack of books!!
Paige says
Our Monday was good too!
I would love to know what time you go to bed at night to get up at 3:30 am. I have been waking up at 4:30 am, but I am always so exhausted by the end of the day. (And probably not too much fun to be around either…)
I do love my mornings though! 🙂
Sabrina says
My day was great I even fit in a workout!
Julie says
Our Monday was a snow day for public schools, but given that we homeschool and my kids needing to get back to a routine, we did school anyway. It took us most of the day but was a good day overall. I even got in my workout and that felt great! Looking forward to cleaning out my bathroom cupboards today and getting rid of things.
Courtney says
Well my day was going to be getting back into the normal routine and starting homeschool, but instead had to take my husband to the doctor for a pinched nerve.
Karen says
There is something about the first Monday of a New Year that is especially motivating. My favorite moment was when I let my daughter check her chores off on my Motivated Moms app. She said, “Wow mom, I didn’t know you do so much stuff. I thought you made us do all the work!” Totally worth the price of the app!
Laura in NC says
Monday was our first day back to homeschooling too. I have implemented “Morning Time” to our routine and I can’t believe how much fun we had yesterday learning.
Rebekah says
Much better than I anticipated! We, too, got back to (home)school after a nice break. We got a lot more accomplished than I expected!
Diana says
My Monday was pretty typical with answering lots of emails and teaching piano lessons. I’m in charge of a big event this weekend so a lot of time was taken with planning for that. I did get to bed at a decent hour though and had time to do some piano practice!
Elaine says
Not feeling the best, but thankful to be able to get a few things done anyway. Enjoyed talking with with son and daughter on phone.
Jen M says
My oldest turned 13 yesterday-so we spent our day celebrating hi young life and then going out as a family to a great dinner together. Making memories with my family any day is a great day.
Donna says
It was a relaxing day as we still have a couple recovering from being sick. School can wait. Rest is what we need around here.
Erin says
My girls slept in and I got to work out and shower in peace! I didn’t check much more off of my to-do list, but we spent a lot of quality time together reading, playing, and just snuggling. Sometimes those things are more important than clean floors, right? 🙂
Deanna says
My day went surprising well too! Getting up early didn’t happen. An 18 month old waking up numerous times doesn’t help that any. But the rest of the day was fun and productive and my almost 4 year old was funny and helpful. We’ve had some rough moments over the past year/year and half and days like today make me feel hopeful that we are coming to the point where we will have more good days than bad.
Emily says
We had a PT appt in the morning for my daughter. But in the afternoon, I ran during nap time and got some other chores done! 🙂
Corey Lesko says
We spent the day getting back into normal routine life. But we had a really productive evening which was great!
Brandi says
It was a good Monday here. The sun was shining! After a few days of rain and clouds, it was wonderful to find warm sunbeams throughout the house as I cleaned up and worked to get back into our routine.
sarah says
Productive but long!
Jennifer says
My day was not nearly as productive as yours, but was still a good day. I worked, got some laundry done, ran an errand at CVS, played with my 2 year old, and had a little bit of time to relax with my husband in the evening.
Sarah says
Crystal, I always stuggle with reading my bible, I read a devotion daily which has a few verses that I read with it, but to sit down and read, I never know where to start or read, do you have any suggestions??
I love your blog, it is such an inspiration and you provide us all with such useful and easy tips, thanks 🙂
Janelle says
It was back-to-school for half of my kids, I sure did miss them! But it did feel good to be on schedule again. 🙂
Sarah says
My day was good, Nice to be able to get back into routine that is for sure!! Got up a bit earlier, need to get up earlier, but gradual, read my devotion, got the kids lunches packed and a few other things, then out the door to school and work, got a few errands done at lunch that I have been needing to do so that was awesome!!
Would love to win these books, really what I need right now.
Thanks
Christie says
We had a great day. After 3 months of myself and two of my children being seriously ill (mystery virus affected our entire nervous systems), we were finally able to resume schooling. We have so much ground to make up, but everyone was just happy to be back to “normal”. I even managed to get some laundry done, and made apple crisp and homemade soup for dinner.
Rach says
I had a great Monday! Mostly because I prepared really well the night before – laying out breakfast things, having my lunch all ready, writing out my to-do list. It made me feel so much better to have started a little “ahead” and being that little more prepared for the day!
alisha says
We took some time as a family just to sit, talk, and laugh! So fun.
Amy P says
I had a great Monday too! We got back into our homeschool routine after a fun Christmas break. I was also able to clean some cabinets and found some things to get rid of!
Jen says
I spent my day catching up on mail and running all the errands I put off while my children were off from school!
Katherine says
Honestly, my Monday was a little rough. We had a funeral at church this morning which I played the music for, and I felt behind for the rest of the day. Plus my six week old has a cold and is pretty miserable. Just trying to remember to give myself grace.
Jamie says
We have the stomach bug that will not quit here. The kids run around happy as can be, and then suddenly throw up. But I guess that is better than having them feel awful all the time.
I got more done than I thought I would, too. I got my fridge cleaned out (too many leftover pot lucks from the holidays!) and also cleaned my front loader. I cleaned my counters and organized a hot chocolate bar since we are supposed to have some very cold weather this week. Brrr!
Dara says
Despite waking up almost 2 hours late, it was a great Monday! I had prepped most of what we needed the night before (yay!) so waking up later only meant I missed my workout and was around 10 minutes late to work. It could have been so much worse if I hadn’t planned ahead!
Bobbi says
My day went pretty well! Woke up feeling great. I got a lot done at work. Did some great thrift shopping afterwards. And am feeling awesome on day 4 of “The Virgin Diet.”
Meridith says
We had a really good day, too! We do a four day week so we didn’t start school yesterday. Monday’s are generally a boundary pushing day with the 4 year old that I watch, but he was really well behaved yesterday, even with his sister here with no school in our county. Today will be the real test; first day back after a 2 week break. I’m praying for a smooth transition as this day has historically been more difficult than the first day after summer break…… ;O)
Jenny says
I’m glad you had a good day. Ours wasn’t too bad. I was able to get a bunch of romaine cut and washed for salads this week, and even got a little exercise in. Looks like some good books. Thanks for the opportunity!
Julie says
I would love to win this stack of books. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to de-clutter my house. Yesterday it was back to work after being off since noon last Wednesday. Some of my responsibilities in my job involve sending out letters of recommendation for graduate students and postdoctoral faculty who are applying for academic jobs. I spent a good part of the day doing that. Since we were under a Winter Storm warning after 9 p.m. last night, I made a quick trip to CVS to take advantage of the Extra Bucks offers on the Sundown gummies ($3 EBs) and Nature Made gummies ($5 EBs).My out of pocket was about $8.50 after $3 in previous EBs and coupons on the vitamins from the 1/4 Sunday paper. I also had a coupon for buy 2 greeting cards, get 1 free. Getting $8 in Extra Bucks was nice! I plan to go back and pick up a Nature Made vita-melts using these Extra Bucks.
Kristi Cary says
My Monday was alright. Worked my outside job, then had a Tupperware party at my house! It was a fun night, which is helping for a not fun Tuesday. 🙂
Jodi says
Yesterday was my first full day back to work since before the holidays. Wow, was I worn out! My hubby picked up dinner for us, so that was a blessing when I got home.
Sharon says
Great ideas. I would love to see a blog post about how you created a community of friends. I have been so inspired and motivated by your site. My family is going through a difficult time right now, and your blog posts are the highlight of my day.
Diana says
I just want to praise God for the sunshine he sent yesterday! We’ve had so much gray weather and it is *so* much harder for me to be patient after extended storminess 🙂 Although I woke up with mild vertigo, being out in the sunshine (to plant garlic–hooray!) helped to almost completely settle that down and I was able to get some things done. Glad your day was great too!
Crissie says
My Monday back to the routine was great! I got up early, read my Bible, cooked breakfast, and straightened the house. Then, it was time to start working on my real work that I put off through the holidays. Lots of progress was made!
Amy Grable says
My Monday went well. I too am using The Confident Mom Planner and really liking it.
Sharon says
Is your Monday night group a church small group or friends from other places? If so, please tell me where you met your friends? I am so impressed that you found a group of friends so quickly. I would love to know where to find friends that wanted to meet on a weekly basis. Thanks.
Crystal Paine says
They are friends from various places — two of the families we knew before we moved, two we met shortly after we moved. We were *really* intentional about reaching out, jumping outside our comfort zones, and looking for ways to connect after we moved and that resulted in some very strong relationships and a core group of friends here who have been a real gift to our lives.
Rebecca says
This Monday was not horrible, which is an improvement over the past week. Kids have been sick with croup, ear infections, and viruses, and we’ve also been grieving our dog that passed away suddenly last Sunday. Now we are trying to pull it together and be excited, as in 1 week my husband will be home from deployment. Good days are ahead!
Lisa says
Yesterday was a great day–back to school/daycare and back to work! Early wake-up (check), Bible reading (check), eat an actual breakfast (check). I was able to be positive and encouraging to my kids and not RUSHRUSHRUSH them out of the door. This morning…eh…not so much. Baby up way too early, kindergartener wet the bed (again), but all was still going well until the 8 oz thermos of milk spilled all over the car/backpack/winter coat and went unnoticed for the 45 minute trip to school/daycare. Sigh. #ReadyFor5:00pm
Heather B. says
The kids were back in school, so it was much easier to get things done around the house!
Lori says
With the boys back in school, it made it easier to be back into a routine again. I did some decluttering, including the bathroom drawers. I’m looking forward to getting some more things accomplished around the house. A new year always brings hope!
Allie D. says
My morning routine went well! I printed out the confident mom planner and I think i is really going o keep me focused and on track.
Emily says
Well, yesterday was supposed to be the day that DH and I started our new morning routine at our new wake up time of 5:30. Unfortunately, DH woke up with a stomach bug in the middle of the night and our toddler woke up coughing and choking so I slept with him for the rest of the night. Poor hubby was sick in bed all day and toddler has an ear infection. So I got almost nothing accomplished yesterday, but I did get to take care of my favorite people 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I’m so sorry you all have sickness at your house! 🙁
Toni says
Back to school for most of my kiddos, then some time with friends.
Amy S says
It was a good first full week into 2015. Work was busy, I was exhausted when I got home. But overall a good day. I rested well.
Kelly says
Good start to some hopefully good changes to our homeschool routine. Praying we can reach our goals for the coming year.
Susan Dougherty says
Yesterday was a great day for us too! I was able to work around the house while still giving my boys the attention they needed. I put away the last of the Christmas decorations, caught up the laundry, dusted, and vacuumed the house in between preschool pick up, reading books, lunch, and playing with their toy trains. It’s nice to have the house in order because this morning we are snowed in. It’s warm and cozy inside with all the beautiful fluffy snow outside.
Catherine says
We were excited to get back to our “routine” again after winter break! It was a busy and productive day. We implemented our new system for chores/allowance and day 1 was a success! I finished the day by reading chapter 1 in Me Before You…an excellent read so far! I’d love to tackle those other books in that stack of goodies 🙂
Sam says
I majorly purged my sons baby things today. I have 4 bags of clothes and 3 boxes of toys, bedding etc. I actually have a baby due in March, but I don’t know the gender and I am tired of keeping stuff around that I might be able to use. Now I have a perfect idea of what I need for baby 2; which isn’t much: swaddle blankets, side snap tees and wipes!
Kristine says
It was a good Monday. I felt like I at least made some accomplishments. I took down the Christmas tree and decorations. It’s a new year so I think I need to concentrate on becoming more organized. I love your blog and it will definitely help me with that! Thank you! Happy New Year!
Jaclyn says
I am not an early riser at all! LOL! I manage to drag myself out of bed in time to get my daughter up and ready for school. Get her and my husband out the door by 7:30 and then the little man (my 3yo) and I have the day to ourselves. I did get the living room picked up yesterday from Christmas break. They have a toy room out front, but the toys always manage to work their way out into the rest of the house. We all had the flu the week of Christmas and then lingering sinus issues this past week so I didn’t get nearly as much accomplished as I had hoped to. We hit the grocery store and spent way too much money! Came home and finished up laundry and a few odds and ends. Not an overly productive day, but not too bad overall! 🙂
Jerri says
Great Monday. The grandkids don’t go back to school until Wednesday. So we cleaned, had a play date, went shopping and out to eat at a local place called Fuzzy’s Tacos. Super yummy and it was a fundraiser for a local baseball team. I too started my morning with tea and my devotional time. Staring 2015 using my “Graditude Journal”. Love looking back each morning on what I am thankful for and then looking forward to what God has in store for me. Thankful for each new day that God gives us. A chance to start new and fresh.
Katie L says
Yesterday was a work day for me (I work 1 1/2 to 2 days a week) and kids were back to school. Crock pot soup for dinner. A tiring but easy day. Today I am home alone for the first time in 2 weeks (love my family but boy do I need this!) . Looking forward to some time to recharge me and getting things picked up around here!
Michele M says
I had a good Monday! We’re still in vacation mode; my daughter still has a week left of her college break. We’re still taking it easy, but I did accomplish a few small tasks and we’re enjoying home cooked meals after all the holiday food!
Kimmie says
Glad you had a successful day:-) my Monday was great- my hubby was off so we got to spend time together and we did a quick 30 minute cleanup around the house.
Chrysti B. says
Mine went pretty well, too! Spent the day planning for the week and catching up on needed tasks, plus some cuddle time with my little ones!
Greenhouse97 says
With everyone out of the house, I was able to “put the house back together” after the holiday whirlwind. I even had time to enjoy a cup of tea and start a new book.
Michelle says
So far, a good start! I finished most of my list and even surprised my hubby with a date. Thanks for the motivation!

Hi Crystal! We just started using the Confident Mom planner this week and I think we’re really going to like it! Question: the John study. Is that part of the previous studies you were doing? I remember you talking about them at Hearts at Home and I’ve been wracking my brain to remember what website puts those out. Thanks!
Crystal Paine says
The John study is one of the She Reads Truth studies. It’s the one they are going through right now: http://shereadstruth.com/category/plans/john/
Becky {Milo & Oats} says
Yes! That’s right, thanks!
Abbey Harder says
The first full week of January always feels like a fresh start. As if I get a few days wiggle room to implement my New Year’s goals. 🙂
My Monday went wonderful! I, too rise early, took the time to ecercise and read God’s Word, I was able to walk my kids through some schooling (that we’re behind in, due to sickness), too. Thankful for an encouraging day.
Liesel says
It was excellent. I spent a lot of it snuggling my 2 week old.
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
I love that I’m not the only one up early, too! Yesterday found a 5 am start to my day. I began with my devotional and my beloved chai in the early morning light; my time to clear my mind and re-focus on life. Six am bring breakfasts, getting the fur-babies uncrated, walked, fed, and outside, and hubby off to school. 7-noon, working from my home office; clerical reports, proofs to the paper, all sorts of paper work! The afternoon found two projects. One, I smoked ribs by myself for the first time, and they were awesome! I also started my stockpile clean out project; I am cleaning out any products which I don’t absolutely love, need, or can’t be used within in a year; I’m dividing all items up into boxes for my soup kitchen, women’s shelter, and homeless clinic in our state capital to take in the next few two weeks. 5 pm, brought dog walking, dinner, and later on working on my blog for tomorrow. Long, but productive days are the best! I sleep so soundly, and I love it! I did notice you were using the Confident Moms Planner. If you don’t mind me asking, do you prefer this to the Motivated Mom’s Planner? Thanks for the post! 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I’m trying out the Confident Moms planner this year, so I can’t tell you for sure yet. I do love that it’s pretty — and that it’s FREE. 🙂
Lauren says
I try to keep up with your challenges despite working full time, and my Monday went really well yesterday! I came home on my lunch break and was able to get my bathroom all cleaned and organized. I think I will be starting a new commitment of coming home and cleaning one thing on my lunch break – it makes it so much easier to come home after work and feel accomplished!
Jessie G says
We just moved but I told my husband today felt successful because we found everyone’s bedding and I had enough kitchen supplies to make dinner!
Jen says
I too was surprised at how well our day went after two weeks off! I got up early, got a ton of things done, and had very structured, busy day with the boys to help transition us back. I was exhausted by their bedtime but it felt soooo good!
bberg says
Great day. Back in the swing at work. Accomplished a ton. Then went home, to make fabric softener, spot remover, updated kitchen pictures and finished cleaning the spare bedroom(aka Christmas wrapping room). Still had leftover black eye pea soup for supper. Plan for Tuesday!
Jen Smith says
My day was spent with my sick 6 year old, and I truthfully loved it!
Misty N. says
It was a good day. A day filled with catching up from the Holidays.
Nancy Tiber says
Good first day back in the routine
Up earlier then normal (5:15).. And smooth for all 🙂
Abby @ Mother on a Mission says
Yesterday was my first day back at school after a much-needed Christmas break. It was a professional development day, no students, so it was a nice way to ease back in to the routine of the school week. And I have to say, as much as I didn’t miss my 5:30 am alarm, I love my job and it’s good to be back 🙂
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
Yes, my husband just had a professional development day yesterday, too! It was nice to see him mid-day during his lunch break before returning to his classroom for the remainder of the day!
Abby @ Mother on a Mission says
My husband teaches at the same high school I do, so we got to eat lunch together, too. I’m glad y’all were able to enjoy lunch with each other 🙂
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
Oh my gosh, you’re in Mississippi, too! We’re in Meridian!
Abby @ Mother on a Mission says
Crazy! We’re only about 30 minutes away, in Union. Can I ask where your husband teaches? I have friends at Northeast High School.
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
Northwest Middle School; he teaches ICT I & II. Also, my mother-in-law taught in our district at Kate Griffin and then the high School for over a decade, until she moved to Montana to become a professor and oversee the teaching program at the State University. I myself am certified in History and Language Studies, but went into the legal field instead! Such a small world!
MaryBeth says
I had a great Monday too! As a nanny in my house to a 2 & 5 year old who haven’t been here for 2 weeks we had no huge behavior issues, which we normally do on a “first day back” and I was able to get my cooking and cleaning done before my husband got home from work!
Jenny says
Mine went surprisingly well too considering the cold I had over the weekend and into yesterday! We also started Morning Time (toddler morning time!), organized our preschool (homeschool)/ coat closet, steam cleaned all the tile floors in the house, and left things tidy by bedtime!
Cherry says
Monday was surprisingly productive for me! It was my husband’s first day back after a break and I was anxious to be productive and get back into a routine. I exercised, did my Bible devotional, did laundry, got dinner ready early, knocked things off my to-do list early. The house was a disaster after a weekend with the children cooped up, but they got it picked up, we ran loads of laundry and got back into our home education materials. Ah, routine and order!
Thank you, Crystal, for all of your encouraging posts!
Reva says
My day was a good one. I left the house early, got all of my errands in town done and was back home by noon. The afternoon went well also, worked with my sister, which is always a good time.
Laura says
I tackled a closet that I have been putting this off for months. My 4 year old daughter and I had so much fun going through everything and organizing it and thankfully my 6 month old took a two and a half hour nap! It was a weight off my chest and started the week out great!
Mary G. says
I was back at work yesterday (after a two-week break), so I planned chili in the slow cooker for dinner to help things go better. I tidied up a section of my home office and shredded some documents (an annual process for me). I also read little bits of a novel I’m reading (Charming Billy by Alice McDermott). It was not bad for a Monday all in all.
Jessica says
3:30!!?? I was up at 6:30 and was pretty proud of myself. I also had a good day – back in the school routine and ran a couple of errands. I am so thankful for your posts throughout the day – you are so inspiring! And this stack of books looks amazing! Whoever gets them is surely going to be blessed! Hope your Tuesday is just as sweet as your Monday!
Jenny says
I had a great Monday!
I woke up, read some blogs, and drank some coffee. I opted out of my workout, which was probably lazy of me. I spent the morning working on graduate homework, had lunch with my mom, and then finished my graduate homework and decluttered the bathroom closet. I had an early dinner with my husband and we watched a movie, then I called my mother in law to talk for awhile and sent a supportive email to a friend, and then I made a champagne bundt cake to take to a party. I got together with friends to watch the Bachelor premiere and stayed out until midnight.
All in all, a fantastic day. Except I ate too much and didn’t exercise.
Back to graduate work….
Robin Y says
I’m experimenting with the new Passion Planner. It really helped me to clearly define the most important things that needed to get done yesterday: a full-on, no cheating back-to-homeschool morning 😉 and preparing our home to host small group. By the time the doorbell rang at 7pm, everything was in order and completed. I didn’t achieve a massive number of feats, but I did do great on the two musts! Great day!
Ashley Genovese says
It was better than I thought it would go. I have started exercising and whether it’s for 15 minutes or 30 minutes, it completely changes my attitude and gives me more energy.
Angela C says
I had a great Monday! We have the flu but I have a very mild case so I’ve been able to still get a lot done as long as I rest in the afternoon. Since we’re moving in the next week or two most of my spare time was spent packing but I got some good packing done and organized most of the kids’ toys.
Amy says
Mondays are my husband’s day off, and we were so blessed to have him home all of Christmas break as well. That being said, we spent our last day of break running errands and feeling a mix of joy for our wonderful time off and sadness that it’s over! Thanks for sharing your goals and days and things, inspires and encourages me to keep at it. ☺️
Jen says
Looks like you had a productive Monday! Thanks for this post! I agree that waking up earlier gives you so much more of an opportunity to get things done! This Monday was back to school for me (I’m a teacher). It went smoothly. After school I ran some errands, made dinner, and snuggled on the couch with my hubby as we read the Bible. Then he watched tv and I read the book I’m currently reading, Snow in August. Pretty good so far!
Pam says
It was a quiet day which was nice after treveling for the holidays. My youngest went to school. My oldest, who I homeschool, is still hanging out with the grandparents. So the house was quiet. Completed stuff on my list, went grocery shopping, took a nap, and cleaned out most of the bedroom closet.
Kelly says
I got up at 5:00 a.m. Accomplished most of what I set out to do. . . homeschooling, devotional, lots of laundry, paid bills, mailed some packages, etc. But never got around to cleaning the kitchen closet!
Kate p. says
I managed to get the Christmas tree undecorated and everything put away. There was also a lot of errand-running and little projects around the house.
Lana says
It was a good Monday. All chores finished including a batch of homemade bagels to restock the freezer.
Amber says
We had a great Monday too! While 3:30 is a but early for me, I did get up and get my day started at 4:45 and it was wonderful! By 8:30 I had my housework and quiet time done so the kids and I got out to do the shopping and still completed all homeschool work by 2:30! Thanks for sharing your day, I like the idea of morning time, AND thanks for previously sharing the confident mom planner, I love filling in the bubbles of completed tasks and having premade (thoughtful and thorough) cleaning tasks 🙂
Lisa @ This Pilgrim Life says
Wow! 3:30 am!!! I’m pretty sure I saw the clock at that point but it was just long enough to listen for my baby to fall back asleep and to roll over and do the same! 😉
Our Monday went well. My husband always has Mondays off after he preaches, which was nice because he had to work on our van. On Sunday morning, we got in the van to go to church and it would not start at all. Good thing my husband left earlier. So Monday he got to work on the van, hoping it was a small problem he could fix. (Thankfully it was!)
I did a lot of hanging out with the kids, putting away laundry, and finishing up a blog post that took much longer than I anticipated.
The evening was the best part of our day. We got in our (fixed!) van and went to Five Guys for dinner and then on to Barnes and Nobles to sit on the tiny benches, sip a latte, and read all the kids books my kids could unshelve.
Patty says
Wow, you had a productive day! I seriously don’t know how you got up at 3:30am; were you exhausted by mid-afternoon?
Today is our first day back to school after being off for close to three weeks, so I’m praying for sweet spirits and lots of cooperation today–on my part as well!
Jen says
First day back to routine here too and it went okay. I did as much as I could. I rarely get my to do list done as I have 4 little kids. The older ones are big enough to be an actual help but the 5 month old needs lots of attention from me and that’s okay. I’ll just try to get to that bathroom junk again today!
Kelly says
My Monday didn’t go exactly as I planned but was still very productive and I didn’t lose my peace so all and all still a success!
Rachel Brown says
I had a good Monday! It was nice to get back to “normal” life. 🙂
After work, I ran 3.35 miles using the Run for God app. This was a personal best distance for me. Woohoo!!
Kaylee says
Even though I got up 30 minutes later than my new goal, I had a good and productive day. Started activity time with my toddler and also read to her while she ate lunch. We both loved it.
Melissa says
My day was very long and stressful, but thankfully, my family was able to get me through it and provided me with great support.
Julie @MomFabulous says
Honestly, my Monday could have been better. I felt a little off with everyone back at school and work. It was strange! I didn’t get much done at all. But today is a new day right? 🙂
Allison says
I’m glad you had a nice Monday! Mine was ok, but it sure is going to take awhile to get back into non-holiday routine life again 🙂
Heather says
Monday was a test for me…we have been in flux with a new move right before the holidays and I have been in continual prayer for peace in my heart from all the constant chaos of the holidays/our move/company coming over said holidays along with the anxiety of going back to school for our sweet girl. I prayed hard Sunday night that Monday morning I was going to be prepared and pleasant as I got our 5 year old up and ushered her into getting ready for the day and out the door for school. As I dropped her off at school without any tears or drama I said another silent prayer of thanks and gave myself a quick personal high-5. That set the tone for the rest of the day. No TV at night, we all sat around reading and talking together which for us lately is rare. I had peace in my heart that I haven’t felt in months. Very thankful indeed!
Amanda says
My Monday went fairly well. I implemented a few new items at the start of the year and they seem to be making a big difference. Waking earlier, spending quiet time in devotion and bible study, and staying off the computer during the kids awake time. Its only been a few days, but its making a big difference and I’m feeling inspired. Glad you had a good one too!
Jen S. says
I had a pretty good day..a couple of unexpected things happened (like my son calling me once he got to school to tell me he forgot to take his gym clothes with him) but all went well. Even was able to fit in some reading and some snuggling with my 7 yr old. Life is good!
Diane says
We had a good Monday, too. After work, I volunteered at the nursing home which is always fun. Then my daughter and I worked out at the gym. They serve pizza to their clients once a month (Planet Fitness), so that was a special treat, and it was nice not to have to cook supper.
Mary Jo says
I had big plans for a super productive day and then woke up sick! Instead I’d catching up on house work, I snuggled with my kiddos while we watched a movie together. We managed to survive and everyone went to bed with a fully belly (except me!), but I have my work cut out for me when I get to feeling better!
Sarah says
It was an awesome day! I woke up and posted my first official blog post! I came home to a stunning new office my hubby is building for me while he is off of work, and had a great night remembering to be present with my kids. Getting back into a routine after nearly two weeks off was a bit of a rude awakening, but it feels good too.
Karen says
We had a wonderful Christmas break together but it was still a good feeling to resume the household routine when everyone went back to school today!I accomplished everything on my list – which is short these days, since our youngest is 6 months old.
Su says
All of my kids got up and ready for school on time without grumbling…that makes my day right there. I did a page in the memory book; wrote a tiny bit in my prayer journal; and did my daily chores. Again, thank you for the “real life” posts. I do enjoy them.
Busy Mama says
Back in the home school saddle today, and so ready for routine to resume!
Mandi says
Isn’t it nice when things work out better than you expected? : ) Still trying to learn that God’s providence is the best outcome for the day….
melissa says
Really enjoy these posts.. Glad to see they will be a part of the new year! 🙂

We all slept in late (except hubby who was long gone before the rest of us were up), but I chalk that to revoverying from sickness last week/weekend. Despite that it was a super productive day! First full day back homeschooling, decluttered our window seat with all the board games/puzzles/blankets, made a crock pot meal plus prepped dried beans for tomorrow…and had my very first fitness bootcamp class tonight! After the kids were in bed I soaked my tired muscles in a hot bath, packed bags and lunches for co op classes tomorrow and even managed to blog. 🙂 Thanks for asking!
Angel says
I got a new, fun haircut.
Andrea says
I got a late start and didn’t get as much accomplished as I would have liked. But tomorrow’s a new day with new grace and opportunity!
Karina says
It was good! Everyone was ready to get back at it after the break which a plus. 🙂 Although I didn’t accomplish as much as I wanted, it was still a great day.
Sara S. says
We actually had a very good day today! Me, my husband and our 2 girls went to the doctor for my 25 week check-up and then because it is my husband’s day off, we went to Starbucks to get a little treat and stopped by our neighborhood bookstore. It was so nice to just enjoy our day. When we got home our girls went down for a nap and after a bit my husband woke up our oldest and took her to the music store to get a microphone for her new podcast they are starting. They also checked out violins because she has been interested in playing. What’s so cool about all of these interests is that she is only 5 and it is really amazing to see her little personality come out in all these ways. I also was able to clean and organize our house some more, which is nice because we moved in about a month ago and have been slowly making our way through all of our boxes. I’ll be so thankful when it’s all done. Sorry it was a bit long-winded!
Sarah says
Something was wrong with the universe today. The kids were whining all day, giant paper cut, issues price matching at the grocery store and I slept funny so I hurt. But on a lighter note I accomplished my goal of deep cleaning my master bathroom and made copycat Starbucks cranberry bliss bars. It’s all about perspective 😀
Callie says
I love Mondays and am usually able to accomplish so much . It can definitely set the tone for the week. Today started with a phone call where plans were changed and a trip to the hospital was in order. Grateful for my husband who watched my kids and let me take a nap when I got home and for the opportunity to spend today with my grandma, my mother, and her other sweet children. Such an honor to be with all of them during this difficult time of letting go.
Heart and Haven says
Today was a good day! First day I’ve taken classes at a gym in YEARS…and I felt great I was able to get through them. I’ve been focusing on my health with better eating & exercise. Having baby #5 (and 4th C-section) four months ago, recovery has been slow but steady progress.
Follow-up appt. with my endocrinologist showed my thyroid and other lab results in the normal range (indicating current synthroid dosage continues to be stable – woot!)
However, that lead me to believe I’ve been struggling with adrenal fatigue. I have PTSD (have to be mindful of triggers as much as possible), and with the added exercise I’ve been doing recently, I think has been the cause of sleeping problems I’ve been having since beginning December. I’ve been taking an herbal supplement, ashwagandha, which really seems to be helping; the past week or so my sleep schedule has greatly improved.
I would love these books you’re offering! The book Adrenaline and Stress, I’m hoping will offer additional suggestions to help with some of the stress related issues I’ve been experiencing. And I already signed up for the Own Your Life webcast for tomorrow – would love a copy of this book, and the other books look like great gems too!
Jen says
I tried out my goals over the weekend which helped me pare them down to more realistic ones. So I was still able to keep up with She Reads Truth and 365 days of truth, daily cleaning checklist (well some of it). I ended up working until 8 pm tonight, so that wasn’t as planned. Plan to still get in a chapter of Surprising Secrets of Highly Happy Marriages. I’ve had some success with it already. Last night’s very unrestful sleep confirmed we have to get our 3 year old sleeping in her own bed – for the good of the whole family.
Miriah says
Very productive Monday! Got my house in order after the holidays. Looking forward to MOPS tomorrow morning! I’ve ordered some She Reads Truth journals & can’t wait to get started on one of the studies. Also went to the library today & put several books on hold that you’ve requested ☺️
Sherry says
Back on schedule but good, implementing a new training program for little one, so far so good! need to be consistent now!
Beth Sheppard says
Did the usual Monday things like vacuuming, sweeping, cooking ahead for the week, exercised, and other stuff. No projects though. Monday’s are too busy for extras. Prepared for winco tomorrow as it is far and only happens once a month.
Jacquelyn says
I feel blessed to have learned an important lesson today. Today was the first day working with a new daily goals form. I’m usually so passionate about sticking to that days list and how! Well, as God ordained I ended up being forced into being flexible today. Yep, I had to …gasp…do saturdays list instead of mondays list. Guess what…the sky didn’t fall. The Lord just gently showed me I am not in control and its okay. I can’t believe I ever let something like that be so rigid and important to me. Seems so silly now! Today was a good day!
Carri says
It was a great Monday! My teenage son got a car. And we did it the Dave way. Exciting and scary all at one time.
Marie says
Crystal I was to say that the Imagination Station books are great. We are on book number 7 and I get them from the library.
Jessica says
This was one of those days where it felt like I was spinning my wheels but not going anywhere! I’m thankful for a new day tomorrow… 🙂
Marie says
I had a very productive day! I am loving the new year so far. We implimented some new routines and they are working great. I woke up early and was able to read a chapter in my book. Kids woke up and helped with breakfast and folding laundry. Everyone got off to school. Was able to accomplish errands during my daughter’s preschool time. When everyone got home they were in great moods and the afternoon went soo well! Since it was Monday it was the start of Mexican monday and that meant Chicken Quesadilla’s. And since I had a menu plan I was prepared! And the kids were excited. Before I would just do a dinner plan for the week that only I saw. So I changed it by including all the meals and now the kids are helping in the morning with breakfast and making their lunches for school. Dinner was a success. After dinner the kids got their lunches ready for school. I know this will make a huge difference in the morning! And today they came home having eaten their whole lunch and no complaining!! Even though I would ask what they wanted they’d still have complaints but now that they made it their were none! I structured the evening different and started the kids with a veggie tale devotional book they got for Christmas. So while I put the little one down the older two will have a “devotion time” in the evening, followed by some free time and then our read aloud book tim. Tonight went great and I don’t have a headache and feel exhausted!! Here’s to a new year!
Paula says
I had a busy but good Monday. It was back to work day after being off work since Christmas Eve and I got through my emails by noon.
I contacted Fitbit to ask if my 1 year old Flex could be fixed and instead of fixing it they are sending me a new one.
Tonight was 10th grade registration night for our son, and he actually found things that he is excited about for next year.
Katie says
My Monday was very productive! I took down all the Christmas decorations, organized my storage closet in the basement, went through a file cabinet, and took all of my son’s outgrown clothes out of his closet and stored them for a yard sale this spring. I hadn’t planned on getting all this done today, but it sure felt great! I really have a jump start on my week!
Angela R says
My Monday turned out great! My husband let me sleep in super late (9:30 -growing a baby here) as he unexpectedly didn’t have to work. We went out to run errands, eat lunch and thrift. It was so fun and relaxing after a weekend spent cleaning and fixing/maintaining cars when we usually spend so much time together.
Sarah says
Our Monday actually went well! Got a few things crossed off my to do list. With a newborn I was happy with what I accomplished!! Our older two girls did fairly well getting back into the school routine.
Jennifer K Powell says
We had a quiet day. The kids don’t go back to school until tomorrow, so it was nice to relax for one more day and get the Christmas decorations down.
Lucy says
My Monday went great! I got almost everything done on my to-do list, plus other things as they came up. The only thing I missed getting done was vacuuming as there was no time when my son wasn’t around (almost 1, and terrified of the vacuum!) to get it done. It will get done tomorrow!
Megan says
My Monday was well a Monday lol. There was a lot of ups and downs but I am proud I stuck to a new night routine my boys have bags packed lunches made and clothes laid out all for tomorrow.
gayle says
I had a very productive Monday. Recently read the book by the Japanese young lady – can’t remember the exact name, but about the “Japanese art of organizing or tidying”. It has CHANGED MY LIFE!! You’ve gotta read it Crystal. Although I don’t agree with her 100%, her techniques are radical and refreshing. Today I cleaned and reorganized 3 sets of double cabinets in the kitchen. Threw out tons of outdated stuff and now have lots of empty space! Looks fantastic too.
Sarah says
the flu is in full swing at our house, so all to do lists went out the window in favor of survival.
Leeann says
The public schools had a snow day so we took one too even though we home school. A fun way to start the first week back to school!
Sonia says
Nowhere near as productive as yours. It was a travel day. We flew from Nashville back to our home in Texas. My husband and I had a few good laughs though as we looked for celebrities at the Nashville airport. Then we played and read to our kids after we got home. It was a blessed day.
Kristen says
The day went pretty well, especially with a three year old and a ten week old. We get up late since the baby has decided that a midnight bed time is best. But I still got a good breakfast, everybody dressed, journals written and bread going before noon, it’s forward progress for us!
How do you get up so early? What time do you get to bed or do you just manage with little sleep. I turn into a monster without enough sleep. I don’t know how you do it, but I sure admire it.
Amy stierwalt says
I returned to my part time job today after a two week break and had time to plow through paperwork. It felt good to get that off my to do list.
Debbie says
Our last day of holidays before school starts back tomorrow! I slept in, then made pancakes for the kids (a luxury I don’t have during school mornings), cleaned their room with their help and went to ride bikes/scooters and walk around the nearby lake. My parents brought over dinner so I didn’t have to cook and it was a nice end to the holidays for me.
Sierra says
My day was not nearly productive enough…after 9 days of vacation and then illness, I had much planned for today. But the utter chaos and my toddlers requiring more attention than usual led to little being accomplished. I have high hopes for tomorrow!
charity says
I’m really struggleing and fell like I have been for the past few years seems like things get better for a while then they turn dark again and it seems like it is all the same problems that keep resurfaceing. Please pray for me to see better days and have the success God wants me to have over my struggles.
Lola says
Just prayed for you, Charity. May God strengthen you and give you victory through Him. Keep going, He will help you through.
charity says
Your precious in his sight. Thank you so much for your prayers they are needed.
katie girdner says
It was a long work day for both my husband and I, in which we barely saw one another and both ate dinner at work. Hoping for a better day tomorrow!
Allison Ochoa says
My Monday was fantastic! Started getting into a routine now that the new year has started. My husband started his new job today, the kids and I got a few things done, and my first-ever attempt at a chicken pot pie was a roaring success!
Rebecca Scott says
My Monday also went much better than I was expecting but not because I got up at 3:30 am : ) We have been traveling for two weeks and out of routine and homeschool, etc; but my kindegartner was ready to start her school again and we started a morning calendar/prayer time with my two littles that everyone enjoyed! I got two weeks worth of laundry done and folded, Christmas taken down, work emails caught up on and still had time to play for a bit. And my twin 3 year olds giggled for about ten minutes straight during their bathtime tonight with new toys they got for Christmas – best.sound.ever!
Amanda says
It was a normal Monday in our household. 🙂 No complaints. The kids start back to school tomorrow if they don’t call a snow day for us.
Christine says
I ironed, did laundry, walked on the treadmill, talked to my parents on the phone and spent too much time on the internet 🙁
Lisa Guyer says
My Monday was a struggle. We are also coming back from an extended break because of sickness and it being our busy time of year with my husbands work. I went in to the day with high expectations and didn’t get started early enough in the morning. It was a rough disappointment, but I did learn from it and I have high hopes for using this discouragment as motivation for a better day tomorrow. Thanks for your example that it can be done!
Yvonne Nisly says
We got back Saturday from an 11-day trip over the holidays, so my day was spent doing lots of laundry and working on getting my neglected house back in order. It’s not perfect, but looks much better.
Brittany says
It was a busy but good day…work, made turkey dinner that was shared with friends, and finally I made a huge pot of bone broth.
Katey Kendall says
Actually had a great Monday too after Christmas break and sickness! Glad yours was good too! A few of those books are in my wish list!
Melissa French says
Been a difficult day at our house. My precious daughter injured an ankle Friday night at a trampoline park. We were suppose to follow up with an orthopedic surgeon today but he doesn’t accept her insurance. After finally finding one who will, we will have to wait a few days to be seen. Ugh… We did keep our dental appointments for all 4 kiddos today and now 3 of them have more work to be done! More appointments!!! My soon to be 18 year old had one of those “I can’t wait to move outta here”, “you guys are so old fashioned” days. Barely any schoolwork got done much less housework. But I did manage to get supper on the table- one of my New Years resolutions to eat at home more. Praying for a good nights sleep and more joyous day tomorrow.
Lisa Guyer says
Praying for you tonight, Melissa. Keep up the good work of being a “present” momma. Your kids will adore you for that later.
Rachel Anna says
I didn’t get much done today due to a long doctor’s appointment, but I’m hoping to accomplish more tomorrow!
Tasha Medellin says
My day was great! Mondays are always a lititle too busy for my taste because it is home school co-op day, but my kids and I were together, so that is something worth celebrating! I am so thankful I’m able to stay home (or go out) with them. It was co-op, Chick-fil-A, Aldi, then back home for a laid back dinner with some dear friends. 🙂
Lori in Iowa says
It was out last day of holiday break and all four kids had dentist appointments. We ended the day with popcorn and a movie.
Stephanie says
Good day back to school/work routine and snow, snow, snow so there was some shoveling which I am sore from but that takes care of my workout:D
Teresa says
My day was mostly good. Went to the dentist. Everything looks good. Got some stuff done around the house, read to my kids. It was a bad mail day though or maybe not. Got a cancellation notice from our health insurance company. At least we know there is a problem before we racked up a bunch of bills. My husband’s company just started offering a new plan at his work. We stayed on the old one. Seems something went wrong and only my husband got put on instead of the whole family. Hopefully everything gets fixed quickly and no one gets sick or injured in the mean time. I jokingly told my kids no one was allowed to get sick or hurt.
Melody says
I had a good day! Lots of laundry, cleaning, and cooking! But I had the house to myself today and that was just lovely!
Lauren says
Great day spending it with my family, planning the week, lunch with husband. It all leads to tomorrow when my husband leaves for two months. Less good! Focusing on today!
Michele says
Mondays are my “long” days. My daughter and I help prepare breakfast for a homeless shelter ministry that operates during the winter months. I get up at 0330, arrive at the location at 0500.
I then go to work my 12 hr shift at the hospital.
Kate says
My day was great too! One of my goals this year is reading a book a month (I think I ready 1 book last year) and I’m starting off with your Say Goodby to Survival Mode book! Today was Day 1 of getting up earlier so I can have time for a devotional before my kids get up. I’m doing SheReadsTruth based on your recommendation and it is awesome! Also Day 1 of limiting computer time (a takeaway from your book!). It is amazing how much less stressed I was today just by getting up an hour earlier, setting a bit of a schedule, and cutting out so much wasted time on the computer!
Ashley Merrithew says
When you forget a day in your gratitude journal do you make them up or just skip it all together?
Jessica says
I listed some stuff I didn’t need on ebay, headed off to work, and was pleasantly surprised to see 3 items had sold by the time I got off tonight. Made my day.
Marcia Rhinehart says
Overall, I had a good first teacher work day at school…had some quiet time to just think about the second semester, before teachers started emailing me and coming in to talk and find library books. I did get through some of my stacks of things to do and managed to get ready for my multiple meetings tomorrow. At least the students don’t come back until Wednesday…one more day to work on lesson plans, put the stray library books away, work on book orders, fix broken books, and sit through three meetings.
I found out my father -in-law is in the hospital with problems he had previously 20 years ago (prostrate issues). Please keep him in your prayers. His name is Robert. We prayed for him during our monthly WOM (Women on Missions) bible study at church tonight. He had a 24-hour flu bug over Christmas break so my husband was disappointed he didn’t get to spend much time with him.
I loved getting to read your blog post about the Africa secret…look forward to reading about your adventure. I look forward to your emails especially when you talk about you kids and homeschooling. I am a school librarian, but I know a few families that homeschool and I admire anyone who is called to do that for their kids. May you kids be blessed by your guidance and teaching…not everyone is talented enough to handle the pressures that comes with the responsibility.
Have a good 2015.
jennifer says
We tried the eggrolls in a bowl and they were fantastic. The kids went back to school and my daycare crew and I enjoyed the day indoors as its negative 26 here.
Martha D says
Not so good today, tired from working all weekend, didn’t get too much done at all.
sarah says
It looked like it was going to be a rough day but after a couple reminders it turned out pretty okay and included some good solid playtime with my two older kids, something that sadly did not happen much in December.
Holly says
We had a great day; played with my toddler, worked and rested during his nap, and went to the gym this evening. Very productive. Grateful for post-holiday return to routines!
Lynne says
Our day was great! It was our first day back in the homeschool routine after taking the month of December off, and it felt good. We love Morning Time, and I bet your family will love it, too!
Alexis Christensen says
I’ll be honest, today was a HARD day. 39 weeks pregnant and a teething 19 month old was rough. I’m taking time now to reflect, pray, relax and try to prepare for a better tomorrow. Thanks for sharing about your life Crystal!
Leslie says
Sigh…not as I had planned as 3 of my 5 children were sick, but tried to enjoy the snuggles and laziness and push the to-do list off until tomorrow!
Kristen Sipek says
My Monday was ok at first but then it went downhill. I got up early (615am), got dressed, had 2 cups of Java. I cleaned the bathrooms and did laundry ALL DAY LONG! In the midst of all of this I nanny for a 4 y/o and an 8 month old. My 4 y/o needs to take naps on occasion, she needed one today, but refuses to so it makes for a “wonderful” afternoon. I then have to get my 2 Girls ready for gymnastics and leave the house for 2.5 hours. I get home and my hubby didn’t cook dinner like I had asked him to, so, we didn’t have dinner till 730pm; which throws bed time routine out the window. Tomorrow is a brand new day!
Carrie says
I made appointments all morning (one of my most dreaded tasks), but now have all our doctor, dentist, eye doctor, hair appointments done for the next few months. Then cleaned the house and got things ready for school to start tomorrow. Yay me!
Laura says
I had a pretty great day – my oldest was back in school and my girls (1 and 3) were at their grandparents’ house so I had time to come up with my list of things to do before baby #4 makes her arrival next month. Once the list was made, I started in on it and split my alone time between tidying my house and getting some work done online. Plus, I had an OB appointment this morning that went great! 🙂
Morgan says
I’m not a person who craves routine, so I wasn’t sure I was ready to get back to normal after Christmas break, but it ended up feeling good to do so. I got some housework done and I exercised and spent lots of time with my kids.
Shannon says
I got the kids off to school and did the basic cleanup of the house. I read my devotion for the day which led me to pull my Bible off the shelf, look up a verse and I was drawn to a verse on the page that God knew I needed to read today! I love when that happens!
Lori Linsmeyer says
I had a pretty productive day, I wish I would of got more done, but I wasn’t feeling the greatest.
JoannaJ says
I had our carpets professionally cleaned today for the first time in about 4 years! My birthday was two days ago so I’m considering it a birthday indulgence to not rent a cleaner and DIY this time. Even though everything is dry now, I still haven’t moved all the small pieces of furniture, baskets, throw rugs, etc., back yet. Just basking in the clutter-free cleanliness (I know it’s for but a brief moment in time so enjoying it while it lasts!) Also made dinner for a friend who just had a baby, so enjoyed spending a rare afternoon in the kitchen cooking. Son goes back to preschool tomorrow so gearing up for the routine of school and client work.
Ellen says
I can’t wait to hear what you think of “Steal Like an Artist”! Andy Traub gave it to me a couple of years ago and I’ve paid it forward a couple of times by giving it to others. Curious to see if you liked it too!
Melissa says
I have had very low energy for quite awhile, but just found out last week that I am low on iron, so it is encouraging to know that if I am diligent in taking my iron pills I should hopefully start feeling better. That knowledge alone gives me energy! Since we were getting ready for two house guests for the week, I had to be productive whether I felt like it or not! My husband was a huge help, and we got the house presentable, and although there are still more things I want to do, it feels so good to have the house at least partially company-ready. 🙂
Miranda says
Had an ok day, first one back at work after the holidays. I did take some time to catch up on your posts that I missed during my break, and got started thinking about new years goals…..thinking mid-January is as good a start date as the 1st. 🙂
Amy Dunn says
First day back at work. ugh. But came home to ready made dinner thanks to advance cooking and dividing in individual portions.
Plus I had fun doing a steal of a deal at Walmart with a $10/3 coupon on Bayer aspirin. Made $3+ on each coupon. Score!
Thanks for the opportunity to win.
Kandace says
The kids went back to school, I got my Starbucks reward drink, and got to work on taking down Christmas decorations, updating the budget, and listening to a few podcasts. Restorative, productive time.
Samantha says
I would love to read Living Well Spending Less!
Karen says
I had a great day back to school. I got three new students in my classes. I once was a semester out of state transfer, so I know how hard it can be. Also, enjoyed a great dinner with some out of town family. Looking toward to fun Tuesday.
Julia Moore says
Today was great! Reading and board game with my oldest this morning before work. Back to work for me after Christmas vacation, my two boys had a blast with the sitter and then my mom. My youngest actually did #1 and #2 in the big boy potty tonight for the first time. I lost track of how many times he switched from the big and little potty, but he went and had fun so hopefully this will be the start! Then made a weeks work of freezer pb&h sandwiches for the boys lunch this week (thanks Crystal for the idea awhile back ) and made a batch of “special oatmeal” (Crystal’s freezer friendly oatmeal) for breakfast tomorrow -my oldests favorite breakfast.
Amy says
Thanks. We had a good day of working and playing.
Becky says
Got most of the to-do list and homeschooling done, so that was a relief. But I didn’t have the opportunity to shower until late this afternoon when my husband got home. Underestimated what all needed to get done this morning! Then was pumped to start a new workout with a friend, and all in all, it was a good Monday 🙂
shannon says
I got up early and walked outside for 30 minutes before work. It was fantastic and set the calm mood for my busy Monday.
Karen G says
It was a very good day. We got back on schedule after winter vacation and enjoyed our day before our homeschool co-op starts Thursday. I am trying that smoothie later this week. Yum!
stacey says
What a great day you had! I had a pretty good day also – last day of kids home from school today and I think we are all itchin’ to get back on a schedule tomorrow. Today I worked in my bathroom, too, but decided to clean the shower really well. It gets pretty gross in there kind of fast, and when you don’t shower with contacts in you don’t notice it as much as your 20/20 husband does…yikes! It looks much better now!
Sarah C says
It was my first official day with two children by myself–my 2 yr old daughter and 3 week old daughter. It went remarkably well although I am now exhausted!
Katie L says
It was our first day back-to-homeschool. I got up at 5:30 and did a workout DVD. Two of my kids were up by 6:15, but they ate breakfast while I finished. We are easing back into school, so it didn’t take too long. My littlest did not take an afternoon nap, but his older brothers entertained him so I could clean out the fridge, which was my extra task for the day. It was a good day!
Diana Campbell says
I was able to clean out my bedroom today so it is a happy day! Load off to goodwill and drawers I can open.
Maureen Polderman says
My day started rough, but got way better as it went on! We were all struggling with the post-holiday, back to normal routine meltdowns for some reason…mommy included! My 2 year old daughter saw me crying on the phone at lunchtime (with my husband!), and said “Why you crying? There a mean man?” Ha!! Thankful for do-overs, forgiveness, and the ability to trust that God is working it all together for my good….
Melissa says
It was exhausting. This was our last day with family and we had to cut it short because of bad weather. We traveled home in white out conditions. I am always thankful to get back home. We are taking tomorrow off to regroup, give the kids a little down time, since we have been in travel mode for about 3 weeks, and Wednesday will be my Monday this week. 😉
Mandy says
Thank you so much for sharing about morning time!!! That totally changed our homeschool morning today! It was such a gift to have a new approach to start the day. Of course, it was just the first day 🙂
Danielle Dyball says
It was a glorious Monday! The kids and I got the house spotless, after my hubby being home for two weeks we had a lot of catching up to do. My older children helped watch the younger ones while I spent several hours working, and my youngest two were asleep by their regular time, which hasn’t happened since my hubby’s been off work.
Jennifer says
A very busy day here! Teachers went back to work today, but kids don’t go back till tomorrow, sooo in addition to my two kids, I had one of my nieces and two nephews here! The morning was a bit rough, but the kids played much nicer together this afternoon. While the two littlest ones were napping, I did manage to start another post for my blog that I hope to get up and going and published by the end of the month! Hope to get more done tomorrow!
Dawn says
After getting to sleep about 3:30am (two kids woke up a few times), we all also in. Afterwards: breakfast, showers, laundry, bill paying, lunch, dishes, more laundry, a doctor appointment to rule out a fracture, drive-through bank transactions, dropping off mail at the post office, making a new recipe for dinner, more laundry, cleaning up the kitchen and living room, putting away shoes and jackets and cleaning out the truck….. I am exhausted. I was literally falling asleep at 7:30.
Brooke says
I had a great day also! The house was a wreck, but I was pretty diligent and got it all cleaned up, and even had my husband comment on how nice it looked when he got home!
Meagan says
Got both both kids to school on time and myself to work just a tad late, but not too bad for the first day after a long Christmas break! Work was productive and I got a lot of things done, then I went to the gym and ran 3 miles and felt so energized! I seem to always have a better week when Monday goes smoothly.

Considering I pulled a back muscle yesterday and can barely move I was surprised how much school we got done. While not much for a regular day enough for a hurt day. And got to rest enough to hopeful be getting better.

My Monday went pretty well considering that that have exactly two days to both catch up from an extended Christmas vacation and get ready to have surgery on Wednesday! I got my kitchen all cleaned up, including cleaning out the fridge, took care of bills and desk work that I’d probably have forgotten about after surgery and did some preliminary work (soaking beans and starting chicken stock in the crock pot) for putting together freezer meals tomorrow.
Of course, there was even more I wanted to get done, but all in all, it was a pretty good days work!

IT was a snowy and cold day here! We had planned to start school but then grandma invited all of my kids over for the day so I could have a mommy day. Wohoo! I read a magazine cover to cover and drank an entire cup of tea without having to reheat it once! I cannot believe you are getting up at 3:30 am… but if you can do that, surely I can get up at 6:30 like I am hoping! Thanks for your “life in the day” posts, it is always encouraging to peek into someone else’s reality and see just how “normal” our days are too!

Thank you for sharing. I continued with my daily devotion, cleaned the kitchen. I also went to sell some baby stuff to resale shop this morning.

Pretty good. In spite of having to rewash what the dishwasher didn’t get clean 🙁
Thanks to you I’m doing one of the older she reads truth studies to try it out and I really like it! I also realized I went to college with one of the owners so that is a neat connection!

I had a pretty good Monday. Getting back into our homeschool routine as well. I was inspired by your daily calendar reminder to read to my kids every day so that felt good starting something!
I always love reading your day in the life posts 🙂

It was our last day before school resumes for the kiddos. Had such a great break, routine will be difficult! Love all your posts! Thank you!

Not too bad for our first day back! I am loving your 2015 goals, your new posts, and how you have been keeping it real! Thank you for inspiring us!

Thanks for the opportunity! I spent the morning making phone calls for my son (returns) and parents (insurance). We spent the day in because my son caught the bug that is going around. We did a little bit of preschool before getting distracted by his toy dinosaurs.

Great day here, too! Got a lot done at work, was very productive at home, and had fun with my MOPS group tonight. It was cool because you were the featured video for living intentionally ! Thanks for the encouragement to be intentional for good change

It was a wonderful morning. I got my workout in, cleaned the house, went on a coffee date with my husband, and finished reading my 2nd book this year! I am still on winter break, so I have some me time before I go back to work.

I was up early getting the kids going, and we finished repainting Nicholas’ room. After that, I worked for 6 hours, and then came home to finish up the evening before bed. Not NEARLY as productive as you! 🙂

I scraped by getting the essentials done this morning before I left home, then my truck slid on the ice and went into the ditch, and the ensuing eviction of the truck from the ditch ate up all of the margin in my day, but I was abundantly blessed by several strangers who stopped to help. So instead of ruining my day, it ended up being a blessing where I was unhurt and got to meet wonderful strangers.

It was a good day…making progress but still so much to do to get back on track!

It was a terrible, lethargic day. I had high hopes for getting a lot accomplished, but fought against worry and fear all day. My husband’s job situation is iffy. He has a great new job he loves, but since he’s considered a sub, they call him often and say, “We don’t need you today.” He really needed work today but didn’t get called. He has a back-up job with my dad, but my dad’s business burned down over the weekend. He had no insurance and lost everything he had for his business. I struggled to find joy today, but God reminded me that He will provide and He is faithful. I am inspired by your post. Sometimes those happy little mundane routines are a great distraction. I know my family could benefit from me getting back into the routine of early rising. I always appreciate you sharing your routine as you get so much done Crystal!

I am so sorry you had a rough day! That’s got to be very hard to not know whether your husband will have worth from day to day — and then to have your dad’s business burn down and lose everything on top of it. My heart hurts for you. I just stopped and prayed that you’d be able to sleep tonight and that you would wake up feeling encouraged and comforted tomorrow. {Hugs!}

I got a great night of sleep and feel great. Your enthusiasm for tackling life has rubbed off on me and now I am busy making school and chore lists for the new year. My husband got called in to work today so that was an answer to prayer. Thank you Crystal!

Great! We ended with the whole family at Christian skate night – so fun!

I was also sick today, so no early rising…but after some late rising and the glories of modern medicine, finally got to the grocery store, did some cleaning, got unpacked from a recent print, and prepped things for the rest of the week!

We had a very pleasant day getting back on track with homeschooling and chores. I had expected the worse but it turned out to be a special day.

I had some problems with work, but on a personal level today went well! It was the first day of making sure I exercised and keeping track of what I eat and I actually did it!

I have the flu so I wasn’t super productive, but I did get the dishwasher unloaded!

It was a great day! My kids would never admit it, but they were glad to return to school today after Christmas break. Hooray for a routine again.
