One of the most frequent questions I get is “I know you leave a lot of notes for your husband, but how do you do it?” It seems some women are intimidated by leaving little, encouraging notes for their man – as if they aren’t going to do it “right”.
So here are a few fun, creative, and inexpensive ways to leave a note of encouragement for your man to get you started:
1. Use Post-it Notes.
As a certified “Office Supply Junkie” I always have a variety of Post-it Notes at my disposal. I leave love notes in his car, in our bathroom, on the fridge, and in his lunch. Anywhere that I can “plant” it in advance for him to find at a later date.
2. Write in Lipstick on Your Bathroom Mirror.
3. Spell “I Love You” With Hershey’s Syrup on a Plate.
Add vanilla ice cream and strawberries for an elegant and tasty add-on.
4. Send A Banana-gram.
When silliness is called for, nothing brings it on like a banana. Just use a Marks-a-lot maker and get creative.
5. Leave Chocolate and a Note on His Pillow.
6. Create a Background On His Computer That Says “I Love You!”
7. Leave a Love Note in His Jacket Pocket.
8. Text Him a Love Note While He’s at Work.
9. Send a Note to His Work Address.
Don’t send a big red envelope with hearts and flowers all over it (unless he enjoys being the center of attention!) but a plain white envelope with some sweet nothings tucked inside would be a welcome break from him day to day work routine.
10. I Love You Because… Mailbox
Come up with your own list of why you love your husband, and then create little messages for each of those reasons. I bought the mailbox in the Dollar Bin at Target and cut up some festive scrapbook paper to create the little notes.
11. Spell it Out on a Scrabble Board or With Pepperoni on a Homemade Pizza.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking. If you need more creative love note ideas, check out my free “21 Post-it Note Sized Encouragements” download on my Facebook Page

My hubby snuck out early this morning and brought me a latte from Starbucks – normally he makes coffee at home (which I of course bought with a coupon) – but he knows I love Starbucks and we rarely buy it anymore because that $3 does add up! But $3 is a pretty reasonably priced gift – I really loved it 😉

Great ideas!
Just wanted to share my post from today on being open and honest about your hopes for Valentine’s Day (from a therapist), no matter what the gifts entail 🙂

I love the marker on the mirror idea!
For Valentine’s Day, I printed pictures of us, wrote a reason why I love my boyfriend on the back of each one, and attached them each to a red balloon. I’m sneaking into his house and putting the balloons above his bed with some rose petals. Cheap and Heartfelt!

These are fantastic ideas. I sometimes write him e-cards so he gets a little note in his email from me every once in a while. I have a Smilebox account and that allows me to personalize them with pictures as well.

I picked up some heart shaped post-it notes on clearance last year at Staples. What a great way to use them.

These are some great ideas! My husband and I have a tradition of always going to the store for Valentine’s day and “picking out” cards for each other. We just show them to each other and laugh and laugh. That way we can pick out as many cards as we like without spending a dime!

I pack my husband’s lunch every day and write love notes on his napkin. He loves it.

Great idea!!!

I love all of these ideas! It has been way too long since I marked up our bathroom mirror with this message. 🙂

Last year for Valentines Day our bible study leader encouraged us to write out 100 reasons (or more if we wanted) on why we loved our husbands. It was so much fun to do. During spare time I would write some down. Took me a couple of wks. I thought it would be challenging to do that many but really when I got started it just flowed. I typed it all out & when I gave it to him he was so surprised & touched that I took the time to do that. I told our children before hand what I was doing (they were 24, 18 & 16 at the time) & they got a huge kick out of it. They had to be present when I gave it to him. He has it hanging up now in his office on his bulletin board. 🙂

Fun ideas! I need to do more of these.
For the banana – if you write on it in pencil, the next day it will be a dark brown message where you wrote. It looks really neat!

That’s pretty good. I like the creative ideas that are also edible 😉

While I can’t say I’ve ever planned ahead to leave my husband notes I do txt him ‘I love you’ during my break @ work and on those super busy days where even on my ‘break’ it seems I’m busy in the office he’ll txt me. It’s our little way of helping each other remember why we have to go to the evil W-word place. Didn’t our parents warn us about 4-letter words?

So true, it is hard sometimes to remember that the reason my husband and I both go to work all day is so that we can save for our future and ultimately build our relationship and family! Great reminder 🙂

I love this! I leave my husband post its all the time. And sometimes, I just text “I love you” or “thinking of you”. 🙂

Great ideas. I’m sometimes at a loss for ideas about nice things to do for my husband because we’re so different, and he doesn’t have any (affordable) hobbies. So I’m feeling like giving some of these a try. 🙂 Thanks for the tips!!!

Great ideas! I love writing love notes for my husband. I didn’t realize that people thought it was difficult to do!
A couple of other ideas:
I’ve done a treasure hunt with notes…each note has something I appreciate about him and also tells him where the next one is found and then I have a “prize” at the end. I’ve done it several times and it’s most fun to leave one right inside the door for when he comes home from work….and then he can go from there. He loves it!
For Christmas he really didn’t need anything so I gave him $20 one dollar bills, each with a heart shaped sticky note on it with a reason that I love him. He had some spending money which he loved (with our budgeting he doesn’t often get much) but I honestly think he liked the notes even more!
I also like to randomly tuck notes in his stack of clothes (t-shirts for instance) and give him a little “I love you” surprise.

Great ideas. I especially love the ideas of notes in his t-shirts. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! for this post. I was looking for “non-expensive” but significant ideas for my DH on Thursday.

I LOVE the blank envelope mailed to work idea… how fun and sneaky!

I keep a dry erase marker in my bathroom for this purpose! It is much easier to clean off the mirror than lipstick. They also work great on our stainless steel fridge and his car windows!
Sarah says
Perfect! I don’t own lipstick, but we’ve got dry erase markers we use for our Sunday School class.
