Every week day in May, I’m challenging my readers to try to find at least 7 things to get rid of. These can be big or small things, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you actually throw them out, sell them, donate them, recycle them, or find someone else who can use them. Think you’re up for the challenge?
I cleaned out my file drawer today and found a pile of different papers to get rid of. Plus, I found some plastic thing-a-ma-bob (not sure where it came from) and a bracelet to also donate to the Goodwill box.
How did your clutter-busting go today? Link up your blog post and/or Instagram pictures below. Or, leave a comment telling us how many things you got rid of. Let’s clear our homes of clutter so we can be more productive and efficient!

Got rid of 160 books today! Most will go to the church yard sale, but other will be for friends. Never thought I could do that. Definitely the Holy Spirit because I am a book hoarder.

WOOHOO!

Great idea! But what do you do with all the clutter? Donate it/ Trash it/ Sell it?
Crystal says
We’re donating most everything this time around.
siri says
Thanks Crystal. Will do likewise. I know where to donate clothes, what about other items – where do you donate them?

My husband and I are visiting Germany until the end of the month, but two days before we left when I was super cleaning the house so we would come home to a beautiful home, I asked my husband to go through our basement with me. We went through every single box/bag we had down there (which is quite a few because we recently moved and are finishing the basement, hopefully a few weeks after we get back we will be done~!) Anyway, we got rid of three boxes full plus a garbage bag full of junk. I think that covered us for the next week and a half 🙂 It felt so good to clean that out and then make our basement far more neat and organized! Thanks for having this challenge!

trash: assorted junk items/papers from daughter’s room

I don’t have a blog, but I have been uploading pictures of my daily haul on my FB page. I am working ahead of schedule because I’ll be moving next week and (A) need to get rid of this junk now rather than pack it up and pay men to move it for me and (B) I know I won’t have any time later and will be super-stressed as is.
I’ve also decided to expand this challenge to 40 days (just finished day 30 today) as I still have more things to go through. And to think I hesitated to participate in this challenge because I couldn’t *possibly* come up with 7 items each day. HA!

I’m extending this challenge for myself as well. We have a two story barn, which is full of clutter so that’s my target for June. My husband is really psyched. It’s a lot of my junk on the second story and he’s been wanting me to go through it all for the longest time!

Just a thought: You could put the bracelet in an Operation Christmas Child Box for a 10-14 year old girl, if you participate in that. I like to shop all year long & collect freebies for the shoe boxes.

great idea!

I put two boxes for this just last night!

I found 5 videos for the thrift store, 2 recorded videos for the garbage, a photo frame and 2 cassette tapes.

The thing-a-ma-bob looks like a plastic version of a marlinspike which, despite its ferocious name, is a pointy stick used to loosen knots to untie them easily.

I didn’t do much clutter busting today but over the weekend I cleaned out our 2 draw file cabinet and have a whole trash bag of papers to shred and I recycled the ones that didn’t need shredding. I also got rid of my big executive desk that was 6 ft by 3 ft and am back to using my old desk from high school that I still own after 24 years of being out of high school. My lap top fits on there perfectly and the desk is much smaller so I don’t have all this large space to clutter up – everything has to be put away and not piled! The room also looks much larger with that desk out of there – now to find a buyer for the desk that is now out on my covered porch…
Lea Stormhammer says
We donated our huge desk like that to our church – they were thrilled to have it since it was a very nice desk and now our Children’s Minister has a lovely desk with plenty of space on it!
Is there someplace you could donate it to and take a tax credit instead of selling it? Or do you know someone starting their own business who might be happy to buy it from you cheap?

Thanks for the idea of donating it to a church. I will have to check with our church or some of the churches around us. Also, I am considering donating it to the Salvation Army – I am pretty close to where all those tornado’s recently hit in OK and maybe they can find someone there who can use it. It is a really good solid piece of furniture.

Tossed a fry pan, whisk, scissors, shirt, coupon section, junk mail and afterwards I planted flowers. Great day!

We continued working in my daughter’s dresser. We found seven shirts most of them will be donated a couple need to just be recycled into rags.
I think we have most of our paper clutter gone now and boy, did we have a bunch. I need to get a system set up to keep the paper clutter in check.
MomofTwoPreciousGirls says
The plastic thing looks like a child’s crochet needle…
Jessica says
I think you mean knitting needle. Knitting needles are pointed while crochet hooks are, well, hooked at the end.
It does look like a lone practice knitting needle.
MomofTwoPreciousGirls says
Jessica, you caught me! I know nothing of knitting or crocheting…I just knew what I THOUGHT it looked like LOL!!!
Amber says
Are we a day ahead? lol! Maybe I’m just losing track!
I am loving this challenge! 🙂
