I wish I lived wherever you all live. California is super expensive. I could never get milk for $1. My tital for your shopping would be at least 150$🙄
Brigette Shevy says
We often buy 2, but this week we had some leftover from last week.
Several reasons: we don’t drink milk very often. I didn’t grow up drinking milk, and it seems to be one of those habits I’ve continued as an adult.😉 I know that’s weird and I have NOTHING against drinking milk!! We use it on cereal and in recipes. My children get plenty of calcium from foods (cheese, yogurt, greens, and CHEESE.🤣 Also fortified things like orange juice and cereal) and we’ve never had any issues with weight/growth/bones with any of them (thankfully!). Also, I have one child, as well as myself, that prefers almond milk over milk in many things, so we also buy that every week.
Hope that answers your question!

California is expensive. Period. Yes, I’m sure it would cost at least $150 or more!! I’ve lived in 4 different states across the US, as well as overseas (plus grocery shopped in MANY different states and international locations), and I know first-hand that prices vary SO MUCH. Do the best you can wherever you live!
And hey, in California you get awesome mountains and ocean/beaches and all that nice weather year round…so there are some great perks of living there!!

I have to ask… I price compared to my ALDI and none match up. Can you explain?
Brigette Shevy says
Every Aldi is different. Prices vary GREATLY across the country!! We have two Aldi’s that are 10-15 minutes apart, and the prices are completely different. One store is much cheaper overall. Hope that helps!

How do you get by for a week on one gallon of milk? I have four kids and we go through about 4 gallons.
Brigette Shevy says
See my reply to you below. Somehow I tagged it on the wrong comment.

I love that you were using hot dog buns for things other than hot dogs! Bread is bread! Glad I’m not alone in this. Great job!
Brigette Shevy says
Awww, thanks! Obviously, I totally agree. And at $0.10 a package… absolutely!!!
Sarah says
Does Aldi have markdowns like Kroger and other places? We are looking at potentially moving to a city with an Aldi and I’m curious. 🙂
Lana says
They do but it is usually pretty rare since they are so high volume that they don’t need to clear products out. The prices are so low that most of the time it does not matter. You will cut your grocery bill by shopping there if you buy basic ingredients but not if you buy all the specialty products and convenience foods they carry.
diane says
Yeah, not very often. It’s not like Kroger but their regular prices are low. Of course you can find sales at other stores that can be lower but for my staples, Aldi is my favorite. I love their produce specials, especially and they have a weekly meat special (usually 2 or 3 kinds of meat and their chicken prices are great)
Brigette Shevy says
People have answered this for you already, so…what they said! Generally it seems pretty random, although I know after talking to an Aldi employee at our store there are specific days/times they mark down meat. And sometimes it’s not even well-marked, and I don’t realize it until I come home and look at my receipt!
