I had the privilege of briefly meeting Renee Swope at The Relevant Conference. What a dear woman she is! And I was so excited about her brand-new book, A Confident Heart: How to Stop Doubting Yourself & Live in the Security of God’s Promises.
If you struggle with feelings of insecurity or worthlessness, you must read this book. It is packed with powerful encouragement to help you stop believing lies and start walking in the truth.
Unmeasured Strength recounts Lauren Manning’s recovery from horrific burns she received when the twin towers were attacked on 9/11. Some of her backstory seemed to drag on a little and I disagreed with much of her personal outlook and theology since she isn’t a Christian, but the book was overall an interesting read and I was very inspired by her determination and perseverance through unimaginable pain.
We’re studying the states right now, so we read Chocolate By Hershey as part of our study of Pennsylvania. It was fascinating to read of Milton Hershey’s rise and fall and rise again. It was also interesting how much things changed with modern industry over his lifetime.
And yes, I know, I ended up reading books that were totally not on my reading list this past week. I promise I’ll try to actually finish a few of these this next week! Maybe that needs to be one of my upcoming habits to develop?! 🙂
Currently reading: EntreLeadership, He Heard Hannah, Kisses from Katie, Becoming a Woman of Influence, and listening to Purple Cow audiobook. You can see all of the books I’ve read in 2011 so far here. Read all of my book reviews here.
Have you read any good books recently?

That Hershey Chocolate one looks really interesting! I am reading Star of Light by Patricia St. John to the children right now as a chapter book read aloud. We have been reading a lot of Thanksgiving books for bedtime stories too! We finished The Tanglewood’s secret last month! That was really good!
This week, I read Mercy comes in the Morning by Lisa Bergren about a daughter dealing with the emotions with losing her mother to alzheimer’s, but also dealing with past issues and forgiveness. I also read House of Secret’s by Tracie Peterson, which I highly recommend, it can really help you understand more about mental illness and some of the struggles families face who deal with it.

I just have to know….how do you read all those books in a week? I have a home based business and 2 little boys and by the time I sit down to read I barely get through a page and I am asleep! I LOVE to read and wish I could get through a book like I used to but I guess a little is better than none! Love seeing your book choices!!!

We are finishing up our last week of a wonderful Bible study book called “Treasures of Healthy Living” by Annette Reeder. It has changed my and my families life! It has opened our eyes to see how Satan is stealing, killing, and destroying our health with the foods we consume and the things in our environment but God’s has given us His word and tells us what foods will give us life, abundantly!

I’m curious. How did you decide which books you read to the children? What curriculum do you use?

I just finished Unmeasured Strength and am full of awe for Lauren Manning. She does make frequent references to God in her book , though later in her book, it is clear she is quite liberal. I think the book is worthwhile for all – even if we see some things differently than she does.

I had a nice little list of books I planned to read this year – I think I crossed off 4 of them! But I’ve read a lot of other books instead, so it’s not a total loss. I just wrote a post about the six books I’m currently working my way through and shared it over on Life as MOM’s Booking It update, but I thought I might as well share it over here as well!

I just finished Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. Great book on the needs of each spouse. Very convicting. Compelling theory based on Scriptural theology with plenty of testimonials of its efficacy.

I have been finishing books the last few weeks but feel like EntreLeadership is just taking me more time…like I have to digest as I read it. I loved Unbroken and of course, Ann’s book, One Thousand Gifts
