Have you ever wondered what are the best things to buy at ALDI? This is my personal comprehensive list of the best deals at ALDI — meaning these are all items that I can almost always find for the lowest price at ALDI compared to other grocery stores. And don’t miss my list of what NOT to buy at ALDI, too!
{Psst! Wondering why I love ALDI so much? Read this post on why I think everyone should shop at ALDI to save money!}
You all know how much I love ALDI. I mean, how could I not love the store that has saved us thousands of dollars over the years??
I often get questions from people asking what to buy at ALDI, so I thought it was high time I put together a post on my 25 favorite things to buy at ALDI. (Note: These are in no particular order!)
1. Salsa
While we love Pace Picante Sauce, we have bought countless jars of ALDI salsa throughout the years and find it to be good — especially for the regular price!
2. Tortilla Chips
We can’t tell one bit of difference between ALDI tortilla chips and any other store brand or even brand name of tortilla chips. Plus, we love the $1.19 regular price tag!
3. Chocolate Chips
We’ve purchased chocolate chips at ALDI for years and they are great! I can’t tell a difference between them and Nestle chocolate chips… well, except for the regular $1.79 price tag!
4. Coconut Oil
The fact that ALDI began carrying organic products a few years ago made me love them so much more! Their prices on coconut oil are so much better than what you’d pay many other places. (Note: TJ Maxx is also a great place to look for deals on organic coconut oil!)
5. Olive Oil
ALDI offers great prices on both organic olive oil and regular olive oil. (Note: TJ Maxx is also a great place to look for deals on olive oil!)
6. Sugar
We typically only buy cane sugar or raw sugar, but the regular ALDI prices on all sugar products usually beat out regular grocery store prices by quite a bit. We’ve bought their regular sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, and cane sugar for years and haven’t ever had issues with any of them.
(Note: Someone told me recently that they found the 4-lb. bag of pure cane sugar at Dollar Tree for just a dollar!!! I’m so checking on that the next time I’m at Dollar Tree!)
7. Peanut Butter
You’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal on peanut butter than what you’ll regularly find at ALDI. We have tried all of their peanut butter, but we typically buy their natural peanut butter and it’s really yummy!
8. Cereal
My kids absolutely love cereal, but I do not love the prices you usually find at the grocery store. Which is why, if we buy cereal, we almost always buy it at ALDI. You want to make sure to get the Millville brand, not the name brand cereals, though, as the name brand cereals at ALDI are NOT less expensive.
But many of the Millville cereals are priced at $1.19 to $1.39 per box. The only kind we don’t like are the knock-off Cheerios. We have yet to find any knock-off Cheerios that actually taste great. However, we do buy their knock-off Honey Nut Cheerios and my kids like those.
9. Tortillas
Remember my post on why I don’t make my own tortillas? This is why… because I can buy a bag of them for just $0.99!!!
10. Canned Tomatoes
We have purchased pretty much all of the ALDI tomato products many times over the years and had no issues with any of them. Plus, you can’t really beat the $0.49 price tag!
11. Canned Green Beans
The ALDI french style green beans take me back to our law school days. We ate SO many cans of these! I think they were only $0.29 per can or something at the time and one can would feed the two of us.
For the record, I think that the ALDI brand of french-style green beans is better than any other brand I’ve tried!
12. Milk
We’ve purchased milk at ALDI for years and have had great success with it. I’m not sure that milk ever tastes differently if purchased from different places, but I’d recommend their milk.
13. Bananas
Their bananas are regularly priced at $0.44 per pound — which is a pretty good price! Sometime, the selection isn’t that great, but I usually try to buy them when they are not very ripe and then let them ripen at home on the countertop. (Also, take them out of the bag as soon as you get home as that seems to help them ripen better.)
14. Berries
I basically can’t stomach paying regular grocery store prices for berries after the deals I’ve gotten at ALDI for berries. A few times per year, they’ll have them on sale for just $0.99 per container! When that happens, I stock up and try to buy some extra to freeze.
(Note: Some stores have notoriously bad fruit. We’ve not had this experience at any of our ALDI stores in the different cities we’ve lived in. However, on occasion, they’ve been completely out of some produce item that was on sale or it’s been very slim pickings what is left. I suggest asking them when the produce gets restocked and trying to shop on that day. Also, really look through the produce. If you dig, you can usually find some great tubs of berries — but they might not be the ones that are right on top!)
15. Grapes
My kids love grapes and ALDI routinely has these on sale for $2 per 2-lb. bag. I find that these are one of their produce items that are usually the least picked over and often the longest lasting. It might just be that grapes hold up better, but regardless, I always buy grapes when they are on sale!
16. Melons
In the summer, ALDI often has great prices on melons — especially cantaloupe and watermelon. I love it when the cantaloupe prices go on sale for $0.99! Yes, you do have to look carefully through the bins to find great watermelon and cantaloupe, but I can usually always find them if I search!
17. Butter
I love butter. Maybe I’m weird, but I do. It pretty much makes everything better! 😉
So I also love that ALDI doesn’t charge you an arm and a leg for their butter. That way, I can slather it on my muffins and toast freely.
18. Bread
While the ALDI bread isn’t the best bread on the market, it works great for sandwiches. We usually buy the 100% whole wheat bread and all of our family is good with it.
(Note: I also check our store’s day old bread area and often find whole wheat bread there for about the same price as ALDI. When I do, I buy it and stick it in the freezer!)
19. Feta Cheese
I love feta cheese on my salads and it’s a special treat that I sometimes splurge on, thanks to the fantastic prices on it at ALDI!
20. Hummus
Hummus is another item I enjoy that I will sometimes splurge on. I like the Pine Nut variety the best.
21. Cheese
While the ALDI cheese prices have gone up in recent years (they used to be $1.39 per block back in the day!), their regular prices are still usually some of the best prices around. We sometimes splurge and buy the string cheese, too, because my kids love it!
22. Frozen Chicken Breasts
I don’t buy a lot of meat at ALDI, but one staple item we buy almost every time we go there is their frozen chicken breasts. I can’t tell any difference between them and the Kroger brand and they are usually at least $1 cheaper per bag.
23. Frozen Fruit
We love frozen fruit in our smoothies! If I can’t find some great deals on marked down fruit somewhere, buying the bagged frozen fruit at ALDI will work — especially since the prices are pretty decent.
24. Frozen Veggies
We usually buy all of our frozen vegetables at ALDI, unless there’s some really fantastic deal at Kroger.
25. Macaroni & Cheese
Their mac & cheese is not at all healthy and it’s one of the few pretty processed things we buy at ALDI, but for $0.33 a box, it makes for an occasional treat for my kids. And they love that they can make it themselves. I love that it doesn’t have any food coloring in it (something we try to avoid at our house).
In Jesse’s law school days, he and I ate many, many boxes of this stuff! So I’m very grateful for it — because it was a fallback meal anytime the grocery budget was especially lean!
ALDI Shoppers: Do you agree with my list? Anything you would add or take off? What do you think are the best deals at ALDI? I’d love to hear!

I absolutely agree with everything except cereal. I find the boxes to not be as full as other boxes, so the price doesn’t seem as low. We buy the generic from the big box stores.

I love ALDI too. I have to say though Dollar Tree, dollar store, is much better in pricing frozen fruit. 10 and 12 oz bags with only fruit no sugar added. Thank you for sharing the ideas

I’m British and I’m sorry but I never liked American chocolate and always bought my chocolate in Aldi when I lived there as it was European chocolate, good price and I loved the taste.
I’m now back in the UK and do all of my food shopping at Aldi. I can save around 50% on my weekly bill. I LOVE Aldi

Hi! I’m from Rochester, NY hometown of one of the most successful grocery chains in the US. Wegmans.
I grew up with Wegmans and have a love/hate with the 24 hour/high prices, but if you have never experienced one, you should.
Ok Danny Wegman, that’s my pitch.
This however is why I shop at Aldi!!!:
My quick, top 10 favs!
1) Personal attention customer service and helpfulness is second to none.
I regularly shop 2-3 different Aldi stores, and the availability and friendliness is second to none.
2) Black Angus beef/grass fed beef are superior with consistent quality week after week.(My 20 years old son is allergic to chicken, turkey and eggs….we eat a lot of beef !)
3 ) Inexpensive (comparitively) cage free, free range eggs. If or you have never had farm fresh or cage free try them, you have forgotten what eggs taste like!
4) Fresh salsa, it used to be Little Salad Bar, now the name changed to Fresh Cut Salsa, but not the recipe!…fantastic in mild, medium or hot!
5) Specialty cheeses/cold cuts…..changes with season, not ridiculously cheap, but great quality and selection.
6) Bacon, fresh Beer Brats sausage, mild and sweet Italian sausage and pork and beef ribs, beef hot dogs.
7) Taquitos, chimichangas (frozen), cheaper even than Walmart, consistent quality.
8) Wide, high quality selection of gluten free products!!!! Reasonably priced…..try the chocholate baking mix for your gluten-free friends!!!!.
9) Quality dairy staples: milk, shredded cheeses, sour cream, butter, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese.
10) Generic cookies (some, not all, as good as name brand ) Specifically chocholate thin mints, coconut caramel, fudge stripe, chocolate chip.
Rochester store hours are now 9a-8p every day!
Thanks! Happy Aldi Shopping!

There are two things I always get at Aldi’s. First, their seltzer water called Vie. Way cheaper than LaCroix and just as good. Second, frozen Alaskan Salmon fillets. It is getting harder and harder to find wild caught salmon but Aldi’s always seems to have them and the price is reasonable.
Sage says
I love Aldi so much! I will definitely have to remember about the salsa and chips, my fiancé loves chips.
Deb Albritton says
One of my favorite thing to do at Aldi’s is shop the holiday leftovers! They mark stuff way down-I purchased several Christmas items like decorative hurricane lamps and silicone baking shapes (like a Christmas tree) , as well as sweets etc for about 20% the original cost. I save them and I will use them for gifts next year esp for White elephant parties etc… Of course you only get what is left but I have found some good stuff. The day after most holiday stuff goes to 50% off and will continue getting marked down until all gone.
Joyce says
I would add their:
Organic Spaghetti sauce and their Organic Pasta
Avocado
Nuts
Chocolate covered frozen bananas
Marti says
Onion soup mix–at 45 cents for a box of 2 packages its the best. Organic apple cider vinegar is another item I always buy
Shiree says
Random….but their animal cookies are seriously the flippin’ best! They are so yummy!
coraspartan says
I believe that you can get many of these items cheaper at Costco if you look at the per ounce price. For example, I believe that peanut butter, hummus, chocolate chips, organic coconut oil, olive oil, feta, and butter are all cheaper at Costco per ounce, but of course, you have to buy a much larger quantity. I only buy things at Costco that I know we will use before they can go bad, but all of the above items are on my list. And I realize that not everyone has a Costco membership or has a Costco near them, but if they do, I urge them to check out their prices on these items.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Aldi, but I’m also a huge fan of Costco.
Cindy says
Their chocolate hazelnut spread is as good as or better than Nutella, and it’s one of the things I can put on sandwiches for my kids. Can’t beat the price. I’ve tried all the store brands and this is the one we settled on.
I’m so grateful they sell lactose free milk now. I used to have to go somewhere else for it. Now it is my one stop shop for almost everything.
Nicole J says
Agree!
Also love: pretzels $.59 a bag!
Bakery cinnamon rolls ( my kids say they compare to ikea)
Hash brown patties ( freezer section, bake them… yum! Like McD’s but less grease)* treat item not every trip
Emily says
I love ALDIs!
I just got back from there….Some of my non mentioned weekly staples include:
-coffee creamer
-yogurt
-fresh chicken Breast
-chicken salad
-fresh Salmon
-canaster of coffee
-Diapers
I get most my milk, eggs, and cheese at Walmart bc I get WIC benefits for free…but otherwise I’d buy them at ALDI… by the way… it would be really nice if they accepted WIC at ALDIs…. then I could probably avoid a 2nd store almost every week!
Karen Jones says
We purchase many items at Aldi’s and have been very pleased with most of them. However their cereals get soggy very quickly so we do not buy cereal there. Milk and eggs are always great prices. Love the store. We have also been very happy with the produce.
Carol A Swanson says
I agree with most on your list, but I would also add resealable plastic bags (all sizes), aluminum foil & facial tissue. Also, some of their non-food items are often good buys. I bought a paper shredder a couple of years ago that is still going strong.
Gail says
I agree with your list accept for the Cheddar Cheese. I think it has different taste and consistency than other brands I have tried including store brands.
Becky says
I am new to your site and have been to Aldo’s in the next city a few times and liked it. After reading this article and all the comments I will make it a regular shopping stop now. Thanks.
Lynn says
I agree with almost everything you listed. Our ‘special’ items we enjoy there are their german chocolate, fig bars, white cheddar corn puffs, goat cheese, hard salami, smoked salmon, take n bake pizza and breadsticks, g-free products (especially the crackers and frozen meal pockets), nacho cheese, lemon bread, coffee cake, and cinnamon rolls. And I’m pretty sure their Cheese Club mac n cheese is actually Kraft – it tastes exactly the same!
Sheila Heiner says
I love their chocolate! Excellent quality.
Linda says
Belgium Cocoa Dusted Truffles are to die for!
anne says
I think you missed the best treat of Aldi’s–sour cream 89 cents and no artificial anything. Compare their sour cream list to anyone elses! You can easily pay 3x the price for sour cream! Only bad news is that at this price it is not a treat; it’s a staple!
I miss their frozen strudel. That was awesome; but they have not carried it in a long time.
Jeanne says
Hard salami, Havarti cheese, Swiss and provolone, “boxed” fresh salad…so many others! Love Aldi.
Cindy says
We love Aldo’s! I buy meat there and it is just like you get at any grocerie store. I think target and something’s at Walmart at our local HyVee. Keep going Aldo’s we would be broke if you left our area!
Kelly Ferrante says
We love their petite frozen green beans! I stir fry them with gf teriyaki sauce. We also love their gf brownie mix, gf garlic cheddar biscuits and gf cornbread mix! We buy almost almost all of our produce there. I love the artisan lettuce. Greek yogurt too!
Kristy says
Eggs are a great deal at Aldi, about half the price of what Publix charges.
My favorite finds are seasonal items or special finds, like pumpkin gnocchi or Gouda crackers.
Kate says
Agree with all items except feta – if you live anywhere near a Market Basket, get feta there! 🙂
naomi winkel says
We shop at Aldi once a week. We buy everything we need there and if we can’t find it or they don’t have it we buy it at Walmart or Target. Everything I bought at Aldi we like. The prices are great. The quality is great also.
Mary Lewis says
I agree with everything except the butter and (shredded) cheese. The butter has a higher water content than premium brands and it can affect the end result if you bake a lot like I do. The shredded cheese seems rather tasteless.
Rachel Dennis says
They carry grass-fed Kerrygold butter now.
Lisa Wheritt says
26. Eggs 27. Jelly 28. Mussels (in the freezer section $2.49 a box YUM!!) 29. Not just canned green beans but ALL canned veggies and fruit. 30. Country Ribs!!! (Also YUM!!)
Jean Marie says
I love Aldi, unfortunately there aren’t any in Louisiana. The closest one to me is in Longview Texas.
Mary Bond says
The first and only time I went to Aldli’s I was not impressed. I just couldn’t understand the reason for the store’s existence. So often other stores plus coupons could beat ALDI’s. But, because of your article I have decided to give it another try.
Jean says
There isn’t any real competition in my area. I know if Aldi would come to Louisiana, they would really hurt Wal-Mart. I’m having to find other reasons to go to Longview….
The one in Longview isn’t very nice, its small and in a shopping center, but I still love going!!!
Barb Walstrum says
Aldi’s has saved us so much money. A recent news article said you could save up to 30% off from Walmart which was where I was buying before.
Paige says
The Millville “Elevation” Cranberry bars are divine. I would shop there JUST for this one thing! We don’t have an AlDI’s near us, so I usually buy 5 boxes when I stop there.
Meg says
Thanks for sharing! 🙂 -Meg, MSM Team

I’ve been lucky enough to shop at Aldi for almost 30 years. At that time there was just 1 in our city and my boyfriend and I lived in our first apartment and we would go there for good cheap food but they were quite limited then. Now, we have several in the same city and one just a mile from my home and one literally in the parking lot of my business so I can walk there on a break. I have so many things I buy there. I shop at Aldi first and Kroger for the rest. I will NOT shop at walmart on principle. But the one thing I tell everyone to get at Aldi is their…
jar of caramel sauce.
OMG! it tastes amazing and at just $1.99 it is a steal and I will put it in my coffee, hot chocolate, top my cheesecakes, ice cream and yes, will steal a spoonful when I need a sugar kick.
Gina says
Aldi’ s Chipotle Black Bean Burgers in the freezer section! My family is addicted to this. $2.79 for a 4 pack. Yummy!! The Earth Grain boxed blends, pesto sauce, Clancys jalapeno potato chips are awesome. Pistachio flavored gelato! Seasonal salsas are to die for like the extremely spicy Harrisa salsa. Just half a teaspoon on burgers gives it a real kick. Year’s ago, I said you would not catch me a mile near an Aldi but now…it is my favorite place. Quick shopping and no couponing hassles or guilt.
sharon Williams kingsley says
Milk at Aldi’s in Ky $1.00 or .99, very cheap eggs
Holly says
I am from Buffalo NY and a favorite local treat is Bison Brand French Onion dip. Aldi brand French Onion Dip is a very close copy! I stock up and enjoy with chips , veggies and backed potatoes. Yum!
Carrie says
Thanks for this post!! I totally agree with all of these EXCEPT canned veggies- They are one of the only items I can get cheaper at Walmart.
Jamue says
Salted caramels are better than our gourmet candy store….
Bridget says
Just remember to look at the sodium and cholesteral content on ingredients. Some items may be cheaper, but they may be worse for your heart.
Sv says
Their fresh deli pizzas are amazing and where I live they’re $6 per 16” pizza…we get them for my kids’ birthday parties.
Wanda Rosario says
At Aldi their bacon the one for 6.99 is very good, their fries there hamburgers, their meats are also good their bagels are cheaper than any other store and they keep fresh. They also have potatoes in a can which is very good for stew and no need to boil., well I could go on and on ,I do shop in Walmart for certain things and Western Beef and Publix .
Teddy Lynn says
Good list but also their fresh fruits and veg are the cheapest around. Their potatoes and onions are a must. Their pie crust and biscuits are good and cheap. And their canned mixed veg are so much better than veg-all if you want to make a quick pot pie!
Frank says
Great mussels frozen
Bankie says
New to Aldis but tried their Tuscan Salad Grains by Earthen Grains (boxed) and absolutely delicious over spinach. The seasoning/dressing pack was tasty but light, not overpowering as so many seaming packets are. I know that some of their items are promos or seasonal and was afraid they might not always have it so but liked it so much, I went back & bought a case!
Lynn Shepard says
Have tried just about everything in the store! Favorites include ground coffee, creamer(Italian sweet cream), butter, canned veggies and fruits, butter, pasta, butter, milk, eggs, fresh produce, butter. (Can you tell I love butter?) My only problem was with the sandwich sliced cheese. Wouldn’t melt and I didn’t care for the taste. Refund was made cheerfully with no problems.
Michele says
Great yogurt and chocolate candies.Their frozen pizzas are awesome!
Betsy Ewing says
I love their chocolate cheerios. They are so addictive. I think they are better than store brand or name brand! I ate 5 boxes in a week, l eat them dry as a snack instead of candy that is bad for me! Sooo good and worth their value.
Janette says
We love their regular unsweetened almond milk. It’s about a $1 cheaper than sale priced Blue Diamond almond milk in the store, and just as good. Also love their organic salsa and huge bag of tortilla, strip chips.
Adrian says
Diapers and wipes!! Entire box of diapers for $10 and change, and 3 pack of wipes for $3.99.
Meg says
Thanks for sharing! 🙂 -Meg, MSM Team
Adrian says
No problem! I must add that I don’t highly recommend the diapers for nighttime. Out of the 3 nights we used them, they did leak a little 1 night, but not sure if that’s just because our daughter had to much to drink before bed or not. We went back to Luvs at night, but are using the Aldi’s diapers during the day since we all go through more then. It’s saving us a good amount of money. We should have done this from the beginning.
Cindy says
The chocolate – it’s imported from Germany. The high-end chocolate is labelled Moser-Roth and is excellent. I think it’s equal to Lindt at much cheaper prices (although fewer varieties)
Meg says
Yum!! -Meg, MSM Team
MitzMN says
Just about anything labeled Specially Selected is worth a try — especially their Specially Selected Ice Cream. So good. $3.99 for a half gallon and worth every penny.
Their Savoritz crackers taste exactly like Club Crackers for $1.69 regular price.
I like their German roasted regular coffee. 17.6 ounces for $4.99.
Ricotta cheese — great price if you have lasagne on the menu. And speaking of lasagne, their pasta sauce is really as good as any jarred sauce, and it’s $.99 regular priced.
And, of course, their gadgets aisle is my favorite in the entire store.
Sarah Mueller, RD says
I’m in love with Wal-Mart online pick up, but you guys are making me want to go see what kind of deals I can find at my local Aldi…
Andrew says
Funny you should say that, I have an Aldi right across the street of a Wal-Mart. I plan ahead arrange the pick up at Wal-Mart followed by a quick “run in” at Aldi.
Time and money saved!!
Judy says
i buy frozen fruit at Dollar Tree! $1 for 12 oz of strawberries, mango, peaches, etc. It’s the best price I’ve found.
Joyce says
Everything bagels, cream cheese and sliced hard salami. Makes great sandwiches. Their nuts are good as well. Really haven’t found anything we didn’t like.
KIM says
We love Aldi’s Tuna steak not very big but it’s thick pieces and 100 calories can’t beat it
Michelina says
Their frozen green beans are sooo good! Cheaper than regular grocery stores and tastier too. Besides that, my go-tos are milk and CHOCOLATE! European chocolate at less than Hershey prices!
Carly Griffin says
Just wanted to add that around the holidays Aldi comes out with a line of fancy gourmet cheeses (my personal fave is white cheddar and cranberries) and if you pair those with a variety box of crackers you’ve got a pretty fancy cheese plate for way less. Their gourmet cheeses run around $3/apiece whereas groceey stores charge upwards of $9/$10.
The only thing I haven’t been able to find at Aldi is a good wine.
Suzan says
Ground turkey to make stuffed peppers, meatloaf and chili.
Lisa says
We just got an Aldi store in our area, so I’ve only been shopping there for 4 weeks. Thanks for the suggestions for my next shopping trip tomorrow. I absolutely love Aldi! Our options were very limited before, we only had Walmart and one other grocery store chain near us. I compared my first receipt to comparable items at our Walmart most items were 1/3 the price we usually pay, the rest were about 1/2 the price. I thought this can’t be right – there must be a catch – smaller packages – nope most were bigger. Cheaper quality, doesn’t taste as good? –Nope we’ve loved everything we’ve tried. We are eating healthier then we could ever have afforded before. I think Aldi expanding in the US may be a literal life saver for many people. We can now eat fruits, vegetables and other healthy foods that were not in our budget before. And we work very hard and make a decent wage, we have our house nearly paid off, only own one old car, I coupon to try to save everywhere I can. I just don’t know how a single parent or even two making minimum wage can possibly make ends meet. Our grocery bill for a family of 4 used to be about $250-300 a week and we never had much left at the end of the week. The last 4 weeks I’ve spent between $100 -$120 each week and I have food everywhere! I’m running out of places to keep it all, but I can’t quit shopping – I want to try everything. (I know, I may have a problem!) I will never spend another penny at Walmart. We are loyal Aldi shoppers now! Sorry about the long rambling post, I’m just so thankful to have Aldi now. P.S. the Salmon is great especially with dill sauce and only $7.99 for 2 pounds!
Lenny says
Eggs, coffee creamer, bagels and pretzels are all priced far below other stores and have the same taste/quality.
Laurie says
Wait until you get a Lidl! Then you’ll say “buh-bye” to Aldi. Same/better prices, but also more products. A bakery with fresh breads of all kinds. Yogurt is delicious and the cheapest I have ever seen it. Other items we get: OJ not from concentrate, spices, flour, granola, nuts, occasional ice cream/soda, spring water. There is just so much. Weekly $5 off $30 coupons. It is amazing!
Alicia says
I loved Aldi also until we got Lidl!! $1.34 for a gallon of milk, 23 cents for a dozen eggs, $1.35 for shredded cheese. Love it!!!
Crystal Paine says
Wow! That’s fantastic!
Katie says
The aldi Oat bran sandwich bread is by far the best bread I’ve ever had. It’s so soft and stays fresh and soft FOREVER! I prefer it over every other kind of bread from anywhere. Try it!
kay kimball says
You cant beat the price on there eggs. I was in there last week eggs were 44 cents a dozen for large eggs.
Margaret says
I am so happy to read these posts! I am moving to MD where there is an Aldi’s to shop at! I need to save money and I am excited to try shopping there!
Margaret says
We made it to MD and Aldi is irresistible! The prices simply cannot be beat. We really enjoy the L’Oven Fresh split top wheat bread (88 cents), the cookies (99 cents), the knock-off Tide is so great, the paper goods are comparable to my NJ choices, even tried the frozen log of ground turkey, something I don’t normally use but liked! Salsa and chips are great, too!
Beth says
Definitely try the chocolate cake … small – has chocolate chips – extremely moist!! It’s under $3.00 and it’s the best cake you’ll ever eat!!
Laney says
We buy that cake whenever we see it. It’s amazing. Super rich. And really, a tiny piece is all you need. Well, maybe not all you want, but…..
Diane says
I agree and I am addicted to this cake. It calls me at night to come get a slice. I will never make a chocolate cake again.
cheri says
During the winter I stock up on corn syrup at Aldi’s you get a big container for under $2 (normally $8 or $9 at the normal grocery store around here) I use a ton of it in candy making.
Tara says
This just reminded me that the best 100% real maple syrup I’ve ever had was from Aldi’s. It was around $4.99 I think. And my household goes through an obscene amount of Orange Juice…the good stuff which is 6.99 here in ohio for the Simply Orange large bottle. I think Aldi’s is just as good, and the kids don’t notice. I wish their peanut butter and frozen foods didn’t contain palm oil. It’s hard to avoid lately but worth it to me not to include in my family’s diet. Great article, and replies…thanks!
Tracey says
crackers are very cheap there too.
Jackie says
I agree with all you said except haven’t tried the mac and cheese. Oh gosh what to add. Lets see some of our favorites is the bottled water super cheap. Mu husban and kids love their root beer. Their frozen pizza is great for a busy night pop those in the oven for a fast meal. Trash bags are so much cheaper and just as good. I buy toilet paper and paper towels just as good as the name brands and I am super picky about what I buy. I buy the boulder ultra paper towels. Get all our fresh veggies there. Chips love their chips.
ELisabeth says
Aldi’s baby food! The organic bags with the screw top are .89 and super handy to have ready for outings. I haven’t found them cheaper anywhere else.
Linda says
I buy the chicken in the can to make chicken salad. It’s so much cheaper than the store.
Vicki says
Doesn’t the natural peanut butter contain palm oil? I think that’s why I’ve never bought it. Palm oil raises cholesterol.
Kelsey says
I LOVE Aldi and shop mostly there and some at Costco! The only thing I buy at Costco versus Aldi is the coconut oil. (We are huge coconut oil users) and Costco has a 84oz tub of organic coconut oil for $18.99!
Gwen says
My husband works at a plant that bottles milk for Aldi. It’s the same milk as the name brand milk. No difference at all.
Diana says
If you are Gluten Free you cannot beat their own line of LiveGFree products. They not only taste better than most of the products on the market, they are affordable compared to products in other stores. AND, they listen to your ideas and suggestions if you take time to write to them.
Julie H says
I like their spice prices…and they have organic spices as well! My oldest son has to drink lactose-free milk and theirs is the best price around. They have a really yummy organic bbq sauce that is a good price too. And their guacamole is delicious and cheap!
Brenda says
Add – peppercorn pork tenderloins and frozen burritos.
Tammy says
You can’t beat 46cents for eggs and $1.44 for a gallon of milk. .89 for a bag of salad. What’s not to like?? Friendly staff and clean stores.
helen says
tammy where do you get a gallon of milk at aldi for $1.44? I live in north east pa it is over $3 here
Ellen Renee says
Evansville Indiana Aldi’s has 99 cent gallons of milk…sometimes it is $1.19 but rare.
Colleen Douglas says
Milk prices in PA have state minimums. . .like liquor everywhere else.
Tonya says
Here in alabama. At aldi its 1.58
Tammy says
Aldi pita chips are the best! Pick up some hummus and some black olives = great snack at great prices.
Crystal Paine says
Can you believe this? I have never purchased their pita chips before!! I totally need to try them!
Lorrain says
I love their goat cheese. Both the crumbled and the logs are very good and much less expensive than Kroger. I grab a baguette and toast a few slices and slather them with the garlic and herb flavor
Lori says
I love their goat cheese in my salads too!
Cheryl says
I LOVE Aldi’s chicken salad on their mini croissants!
Jenifer says
I would add frozen wild caught salmon filets & canned wild caught salmon to your list. You can’t beat the Aldi prices on them..
Crystal Paine says
Oh! I’ve not tried the salmon yet — thanks for the recommendation!
Del says
The medium bag of cooked shrimp is a steal at 4.69 for a 51/60 bag
Bonita Moore says
Absolutely!!!
Dawn says
My family and I love almost everything we’ve got from Aldi. The frozen seafood is all great. Their canned corn is exceptional as well. Very sweet. My daughter LOVES the canned Mandarin oranges and the brats are as good or better than name brands.
Liz says
yes!! Salmon here is amazing! even the fresh one with herbs.
Anne says
We’ve recently discovered the fresh salmon with Mediterranean herbs. We think it’s restaurant quality!
Rhonda says
Their canned milk is a good deal too.
Marsha says
Just be sure to read the label: I almost bought their “wild caught” salmon until I saw that it is “product of CHINA”. Maybe OK with you; just “buyer beware” if you are expecting it to be from Alaska.
Sara says
Love the list and reading everyone’s comments. The only thing I would add is their prosciutto. It’s amazing and only 2 ingredients!
Thanks so much!
Stacy says
I love their Organic honey, kefir, spices and seasoning packets, beans, and quinoa. I also love that they are actively removing dyes from their foods, use sugar in many products instead of high fructose corn syrup and that their milk products are going hormone free! We love our Aldi’s and the money it saves us. I always say Aldi’s has ruined my ability to shop anywhere else for staples and produce. Don’t forget their great prices on non- food items as well!
Anna L. says
I LOVE that you’re bringing back the shopping trips and menu plans. As a long time reader, this is the stuff that made me love MSM. Can you please bring back Giveaways Galore? Those weekly giveaway links were my favorite part of the blog. Thanks for all you do.
Crystal Paine says
I didn’t think that people really cared about those, but that’s super helpful to know and I will definitely consider it!
Melissa says
I completely agree with your list the only things I would add to it is as follows Aldi version on Neutella (can’t tell the difference) Aldi brand diapers and wipes they work great on my little one (I know I could play the drugstore coupon game but for this season in life I want to just go and buy them) and one of my favorite I LOVE their Never Any Chicken with Feta and Spinach sausages they are sooooo yummy!
Karen says
My kids and I have done a blind taste test comparing Aldi milk to Walmart and Dillon’s (our Kroger), and Aldi beat the competitors. 🙂 We recently moved to a much larger city and I am not impressed with the newly remodeled Aldi here… the times I’m most able to get there, they’re most likely to be out of stock of the stuff I usually buy. I can’t bring myself to shop anywhere else though since I don’t like couponing and everywhere else seems so expensive in comparison!
Paula says
Love the pricing on seasoning and spices! I also love their little housewares section! The picnic tote this week super cute!
Mylynda says
We buy the bulk of our groceries at Aldi and then Kroger. So, I am loving everyone’s enthusiasm. It took me a few years and a few blog posts from Crystal to really trust Aldi and also to learn how to navigate the aisles. Now, I love that I can go in and purchase quality products at a really low price without having to hassle through coupons. Years ago, I absolutely LOVED coupons. My life is different now and I just don’t have the time or the patience for the ups and downs of couponing. Shopping at Aldi allows me to leave the store proud of my grocery total and I have no shame or guilt that I didn’t coupon my way through it.
Anyway, I have gotten completely off of the subject matter, here. Years ago when I was still learning to trust Aldi, I was grabbing some groceries and the items that we needed for beef stew that I had decided to make for that evening. The only thing that I was going to have to another store to get was the beef. I had never bought meat at Aldi but I was really running short on time and wasting even more time(that I didn’t have) standing there staring at the BEEF STEW MEAT. So, I decided to take a chance on it. It was great! I had a great flavor, no gristle and little to no fat. I am not afraid to buy any of their meat now. The MARINATED TURKEY BREAST is great. It’s pretty high in sodium so i rinse off the residual marinade.
Crystal Paine says
I’m so glad I helped convince you to try ALDI! That makes me so happy!
Tammy says
Quick oats, ground beef, pasta sauce, whole wheat pasta
Becca says
I love Aldi for certain things!
We get their salad, fruits, frozen veggies and Sour cream (really good for only .99!).
We love these items as well:
Niagra bottled water-24 for 1.99!
Gluten free items are amazing! Have not tried anything bad yet.
Milk is only $1.39 a gallon!!!
Eggs are only .25 a dozen!! I was recently able to use mobisave and get them for .10!
Our Aldi came to town about a year ago and I am so happy because the closest had been 35 miles away.
Donna says
Do try their Chicken Sausage Links…
You will never be able to taste the difference from an Italian Pork Sausage…Trust me…This coming from an Italian girl!!!…
Sheena says
We love their organic shell mac-n-cheese, organic cheese puffs, organic popped popcorn, organic salsa, fruit pouches, mixed nuts, large container of quick oats, organic cereal and energy bars, wine, Indian and Korean cooking sauces, organic coconut granola cereal, organic salad, kale salad mix (wow!), chipotle salad mix, Asian salad mix, organic greek yogurt, organic bacon, organic milk, they used to carry the best tasting coconut milk but no longer do =(, organic avocados, kombucha, kefir, nitrite free hot dogs and sausage, frozen breaded fish sticks, organic vegetable, chicken and beef stock, jasmine rice, taco shells, organic black beans in a can, and sometimes when I feel like I need to eat something bad – cream puffs =)
Tina says
Aldi just came to my town a couple of years ago, and I love it! I buy most of my groceries there. The prices of produce usually beat out the best sales of the other grocery stores in the area.
On a side note, I just noticed that our Dollar Tree carries bags of frozen fruit. I haven’t compared the net content sizes to those of Aldi, so I’m not sure which is the better deal.
Thanks for this post!
Anna says
Always worth a shop around, don’t have aldi near us but I do check other supermarkets for deals…also just found out our new pound world (like your dollar store) does dried and packaged foods and cheap home stuff like hangers and adhesives ? great post crystal, as always x
Aimee Hadden says
Love this!! Aldi is simply fantastic for great gluten free deals too!
Denise says
I love Aldi too! Their cheaper coffee creamer is a must for us, especially because we seem to go through it so quickly!
I try to check out their seasonal items as well. Last week, I bought two camping cots ($17.49 each) and two sleeping bags ($9.99) for an upcoming mission trip for my husband and teenager. I had been pricing cots and was surprised at their expense. Aldi was literally an answer to my prayer!
Amy B says
I love their dried and canned beans, cilantro, lactose free milk and pretty much everything on your list! Our store sometimes has little donuts marked down to .$29–my kids think they are the coolest treat ever 🙂
Amy says
I agree with this list! Recently my Aldi has also had eggs for $0.79/dozen and we go through a lot of eggs, so that’s been great!
We also tend to buy crackers there for the kids (their version of wheat thins, animal crackers, graham crackers, etc.) and my husband likes their Elevation protein powder.
Also, my boys agree with you on the Millville plain Cheerios. 😉 They’ll eat other store brands but not the Aldi kind!
Ashley P says
I like virtually everything at Aldi. The only thing I *don’t* like is their yogurt. It has kind of a funky after taste for me. But the kids don’t seem to notice. I bought a popsicle mold for a dollar and make frozen yogurt pops with it. 🙂
But if I want yogurt for myself, I’ll go to Walmart or something.
Sarah says
An Aldi just opened up near us this spring…I was so excited! Previously it was 25 minutes away, and with 2 Kroger and 2 Publix stores nearby, that didn’t seem worth it. I recently bought their bag of frozen chicken because I didn’t have time to go elsewhere and their fresh chicken was more than I usually pay. It was better than I expected! But that being said…do you have any opinions on the nutrition/health/quality of a bag of frozen chicken versus a package of “fresh” chicken? I say “fresh” because I always thought it was fresh but I often find the packages in the store partially frozen so I do wonder…
Marilyn Wright Yon says
There is a legal definition of fresh chicken (something like the lowest temp allowed to be held and maybe if air chilled or not – should have looked up). I find most frozen raw chicken breasts are sodium enhanced (sort of like brining) and a good percent of the meat’s weight is that retained sodium water. You may see fine print that says 4% or 6% or whatever of weight is sodium solution (can also tell if look at Nutrition Facts Label and if has more than few milligrams sodium – usually if like 200 mg or more) then you know sodium enhanced (and should be listed as an ingredient also). I do not know this is the case for Aldi but it is rare to find frozen raw chicken that is not enhanced.
Savannah @ Dirt Road Daisy says
One of the things I LOVE about Aldi other than the great prices on everyday groceries is their large frozen pizzas! When I’m not feeling like standing in the kitchen and cooking after work, I swing by an Aldi that is conveniently on my route home and pick up their HUGE frozen pizza for less than $6. Much cheaper than take out and less time consuming than homemade pizza…and it is so delicious!
Emily says
I just discovered several months ago that there is an Aldi I can go to on my way home from work that is not terribly out of the way. I love their tortillas too. I won’t ever buy lunch meat from them again but everything else but their meat is great. I have had issues with them not having the milk we want there as they do sell out pretty fast.
Samantha says
The 16oz container of peanuts is always just 1.99 at our local Aldi. That’s a steal! We go through peanuts and peanut butter like crazy around here!
Tammy says
About the chocolate chips – I believe they are far better than Nestle’s or Hershey’s or any other name brand that I have tried!
Kelly Hess says
I completely agree with your list! I try to buy cereal there also but I agree the Cheerios are not the same as well as the Froot Loops! I will also add we buy ice cream, pasta sauce, and lunch meat! You cannot beat their prices on chips and pretzels. It pains me to buy chips at other grocery stores when I need them. Also dairy items like eggs (ours are 27 cents), half and half, creamer, sour cream, and French onion dip. I LOVE ALDIS!!
Tyla Milian says
Dude! I love Aldi. We won a trip to Vegas (3 days 2 nights at Hard Rock Hotel, my husband was the 100th caller at our local radio station) We ended up making it a family vacation with our five year old daughter. Got all our road trip snacks and then some for under $60. That included all our snacks for the entire trip (we had leftovers), our first night’s meal made up of Aldi groceries and a 12 pack of bottled beer we are still working on. Rock on Aldi.
Chris says
I’d add pasta sauce to this list. Regular price of 99 cents is awesome!
Jaclyn says
Oh how I miss Aldi. I loved the simplicity and the hundreds on non-decisions I had to make by shopping there. Would it be bad to say I missed it more than my friends when we moved?
Kim says
I miss my Aldi since I moved. I only moved 25 minutes away but my husband wouldn’t agree with me driving there to shop when I have several grocery stores minutes away from our new house. I would love to see an Aldi closer but I don’t see it happening. We moved to a more “affluent” neighborhood that is looking for more stores like Whole Foods not Aldi. They just opened a Fresh Market which is way overpriced in my opinion.
Marilyn Wright Yon says
The Aldi closest to me (and still 20 minutes away – ~ 8 miles – traffic) is in a very affluent area here. Whole Foods is probably 10 minutes away from it and Sprouts also about 10 minutes from it.
Kim says
Maybe there’s hope I’ll get one closer!
Amy G says
You never know… We had two Aldi’s built at the same time, one in the middle of town surrounded by older neighborhoods, and one in a brand new area with very expensive houses. I go to both, depending on what part of town I am in and they are both always busy. You could get one someday! I saw recently that they are adding like 900 stores. Crazy! But I love it! 🙂
Janna says
Trash bags and Dishwasher Detergent are two of my favorites!
Crystal Paine says
Oh yes! Trash bags! A great recommendation!
Juliette says
I love ALDI! But I can’t, with a clean conscience, recommend their cereal. There is a lot of THBQ going on there, and I will let everyone decide for themselves. I only purchase the multi-grain cheerios and the sugar sweetened shredded wheat in our house….but it’s most definitely a compromise food for a busy schedule
KRIS CALI says
I buy the majority of our groceries at Aldi and use my American Express for 6% back! I always buy specialty cheese like brie or smoked gouda at Aldi. The brie is $2.99 and makes a great appetizer for entertaining when you pair it with grapes and crackers.
Lynn says
Girl Scout flavored cookies are delicious! I’ll never buy crackers, saltines, Ritz type, crackers ever again. They crumble coming out of the package – impossible to spread anything on. Refrigerated pizza is pretty good, too!
Kim says
I LOVE the knock-off Girl Scout cookies! At Aldi, I can get them year round and for only $1.39. My daughter and I like the peanut butter filled cookies (tagalong knock-off).
Aldi used to be a 5 minute drive for me but I moved and now it’s 25-30 minutes. Unfortunately, I can’t justify the drive. I happened to be near it yesterday, so I stocked up on my baking supplies.
Marilyn Wright Yon says
I bought made with whole wheat saltines there once and they were awful. I won’t even buy regular because seems likely they are probably awful.
Amy G says
I would agree with all of the above! And EGGS!! I have not paid more than 75 cents for a dozen eggs for at least a year, and sometimes they have them as low as 25 cents a dozen. Can’t beat that anywhere!
Crystal Paine says
Their egg prices are AMAZING!
Jena says
Great list! I regularly buy most of the items on your list. A few more items we like:
Trail mix (they offer several different trail mix blends)
Shelled pistachios (discovered these recently – they are awesome)
Dark chocolate (my sweet treat)
Greek yogurt
K-cups (much cheaper than grocery stores, but I know you gave up coffee)
Paper products (Their 10″ paper plates are great for company. Their large bundle of paper towels are great. TP and kleenex is great too.)
We had a new store open up 10 miles from us. I just went there this week and I’m sold! It is SO nice and offers a lot more items than my usual store. You are right about some Aldi stores not having good produce. The one I’ve always gone to doesn’t have the best produce. I hate paying for food that I have to end up throwing away.
Thanks for your informative list. I hope more people give Aldi a try!
Crystal Paine says
I haven’t tried their pistachios! Thanks so much for the recommendation!
Lee Anne says
I love their K-Cups too! I host a moms coffee once a month and I love being able to provide a selection at such a good price!
Sheris says
In regards to milk – here in central Illinois where I live, all the milk at all the grocery stores (Aldi, Kroger, Schnuck’s, Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee) in the region comes from the same dairy. It’s then put into the jugs and the respective labels put on. My father just retired from a 30 year career at this place and I asked him why he thought people would pick one brand over another when it’s all just the same stuff. He just smiled and said that it was a good question. Branding is a powerful tool I guess!
Savannah @ Dirt Road Daisy says
Agreed! I worked for a leading beer company for a very long time. The same beer was packaged into two different cans, under two names and the price is extremely different…but it’s the exact same beer!
VanessaKC says
My list is very similar to yours, and let me say I love Aldi. Because we can’t afford to go fully organic, I follow the EWG dirty dozen plus and clean 15. That said, I will not buy the beautifully tempting berries. Strawberries top the list of most polluted. It’s hard to pass up, but I just buy their frozen organic.
Ashley says
I really like to buy the big clamshell of organic salad greens at Aldi. I can’t remember specific numbers, but I think that for the price I pay at Aldis I would only get a clamshell half that size at my regular grocery.
Crystal Paine says
Oh! Yes! Their salad green prices are great!
Amanda says
The same as what everyone else said, but also peanut butter filled pretzels and nuts (growing boys!).
Anna says
We like their snacks, like swiss rolls, pecan sandies, peanut butter bars. And their wine at $2.97 is great for those fancy dishes with wine sauce and taste good for drinking too.
Lee Anne says
We love Aldi!I do the bulk of our shopping there! We love the squeezable applesauce pouches, such a great deal for a special snack! We also buy the Greek yogurt, organic spinach, smoked salmon (it is so good on bagels or in an omelet), goat cheese (the honey is my favorite), nuts, dried fruit! We love all the things! If I’m taking dessert somewhere I’ll often grab a box of the Ghiradelli brownie mix, it’s top notch! The quinoa is a good price!
Crystal Paine says
I don’t think I’ve tried the smoked salmon, the goat cheese, or the brownie mix. Thanks so much for the suggestions!
Joy in Alabama says
The brownie mix and goat cheese is SO GOOD! The brownie mix is better than national brands! And the goat cheese is so much cheaper than Publix. Also I love their dried cherries and other dried fruit and their nuts! AND their short ribs are so good and they have a small marinated pork roast for about $4 that is great! Their stew meat and roasts are good too and we love their chicken so much more than Sam’s.
Tricia says
We buy many of the same things you do at Aldi. I also love their prices for gluten-free items since I went gluten free a year ago. Also: unsweetened applesauce, cream, oats, black beans, 5 pound bags of rice.
Crystal Paine says
Oh! Those are some great items to add to the list!
karen b says
We just got an Aldi less than 2 years ago & they have already remolded & our produce is much nicer. Before it was not as nice. I get carrots you can’t beat .97 for 2#s Yes you have to clean them but good for the children to help do. I also always buy my apples there, usually a better price than the grocery. We did not like there frozen chicken so won’t get from there again. Isn’t it funny how everyone has different tastes.
Crystal Paine says
Yes! Everyone certainly has different tastes!
Marilyn Wright Yon says
I buy nuts there (roasted unsalted almonds, unsalted pistachios, walnuts), hubby’s granola bars (similar to Nature Valley), suet bird feed (hubby says great quality but seems only available seasonally), a Greek salad dressing, dark chocolate bars. I have only found organic natural (stir kind) peanut butter and it is way more expensive than Smuckers regular at Publix (or walmart) so I don’t buy it. I am not to keen on most of the produce there. I have bought bananas there if they do not look too bad or not bundled too large; cremini mushrooms, bagged apples (some very good some not good at all). Much seems bagged too large for our uses or looks pitiful. I have bought organic milk there a couple times when I remember to pack a cooler (20 minute drive to Aldi) – about $1 cheaper than Publix greenwise carton. I typically avoid most cold and frozen because need to have cooler on hand (can do but sometimes timing means would be in car long time). Taco shells and tortila chips are very good. I looked at hams at Easter because had best prices compared with other stores’ ads, but it was a sodium bomb – even for ham – so skipped it and bought at Publix. I have not found any sandwich breads that look good enough to buy (whole wheat), so I buy Nature’s Own WW at Publix or Walmart (and pay awful price but it’s what we like and has ingredients I can accept). Often I cannot find items that are in the weekly ad (like never arrived at the store or not put out yet) and that’s annoying (mostly gardening items).
Crystal Paine says
I used to find Nature’s Own bread at our Dollar Tree in Kansas. Sadly, they don’t seem to carry it here at the Dollar Tree stores in TN. 🙁
Marilyn Wright Yon says
I have not even looked there here (GA). We have a bread outlet but it is 10 miles away and in a location where I rarely travel. Stopped once and did not even have the WW bread that day.
Becca says
Our Dollar Tree in GA has some great bread Marilyn! You should check at your store.
Kathy says
I buy all my eggs at Aldis, boneless skinless chicken breasts, whipping cream, pork roasts, lettuces, tomatoes, cukes, celery, milk, frozen veggies, condiments and baking stuff like flour, sugar, confectioners sugar, evaporated milk, pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, and lots of other goodies in that aisle! Love our Aldis!
PLW says
We have a BRAND NEW Aldis in Statesboro, GA opening this coming week 8/29. None of us even knew what it was until article in paper. Looking forward to seeing all it has to offer!!
Crystal Paine says
YAY!
Lee Anne says
They do carry Nature’s Own at Dollar Tree in Nashville! I live in Hendersonville about 25 minutes north of Nashville and I buy it when I can! Ask your store their delivery day and be ready because it goes fast! I often buy several and freeze them!
Crystal Paine says
I’ve looked multiple times and never found it… I’ve guessing maybe it’s just not at our store or I’m just missing it? (Though I’ve not even seen a spot for it which is why I assumed they just didn’t carry it!) I’ll definitely check this out again! Thank you so much for mentioning that!
Jonna says
I used to work for Dollar Tree. And you have to be there really early on the bread delivery days to get Nature’s Own bread. I suggest calling your local Dollar Tree and asking when the bread delivery days are during the week. Also a lot of the choices depend on what the bread man pulls from the “big box” stores that are close to the sell buy dates typically. I hope this helps Crystal! 🙂
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much!
Jen says
In addition to the items you’ve mentioned, I always go for the flour, cream cheese, cocoa powder and pinto beans for better prices than our local supermarket. Ours is closed for remodeling right now and I’m looking forward to hopefully slightly wider aisles!
Crystal Paine says
Oh! Yes! They have such great prices on staple items!
Paula says
Yogurt, half and half, chips, granola cereal, vegetable broth, hazelnut spread and the best peanut butter cups ever!mmm
Kim says
Our Aldi’s was also remodeled recently so now most of the berries and some more veggies are in refrigerater cases. It has been easier to find the good stuff since they made that change. My 9 year old only lets me buy our almond milk there. I once made him a smoothie with name brand almond milk from another store and he declared it to be awful (he was right!) My main problem now is that so many people have discovered Aldi in recent years that it is always super busy!
Savannah @ Dirt Road Daisy says
I agree Kim! I have rein in my cart rage trying to get through the aisles!! haha!
Crystal Paine says
I’ve found (at ours) that if I go 30 minutes before closing, the store is pretty dead.
And now I’m wondering if they are going to be remodeling ALL their stores??
sue says
Oh those are great prices!!! We don’t have Aldi in our state 🙁
Crystal Paine says
Hopefully you’ll get one soon! I’ve heard they have plans to build a LOT more stores in the next few years!
Chris says
Oh my! Please tell me these are old pictures. Our Aldi was recently remodeled and is so much healthier now. So many more produce options. I sure hope they remodel yours soon.
And I agree with your list plus their ice cream is the best for the price. Yummy!
Crystal Paine says
I took them on Monday! 🙂
Chris says
I sure hope they get to your store soon. It is so much better now. 🙂
Crystal Paine says
That’s fantastic! We’ll see!
BJ Hood says
Almond milk
Produce
Seasoning packets for fajita and taco
Tortilla
Paper plates
Paper bowls
Chicken salad pricy but awesome on toast
Ice cream
Fruit water
Ice type drinks .48
Pringles type chips .99
Jessica says
I have always loved Aldi – and now Iove it even more. Our store update is amazing!
Crystal Paine says
Yay for a store update!
Patricia says
They are remodeling our store right now and it’s closed for a month ??? it’s sooo painful! They closed just a few days after our Walmart quit price-matching! ?
Crystal Paine says
Oh! That would be painful!
Heather says
Our store recently remodeled and ever since they’ve been offering lots of $5 and $10 off coupons!! Let’s hope that happens at your new store, too!!
Terry C. says
We got a new Aldi last year. I shopped there before I moved where I am living now so I was thrilled when they built a store here. The $5 and $10 coupons were in their flyer for about 2 months after the grand opening. That is typical of a new store or grand opening after a remodel. It doesn’t last but I sure loved it as long as it went on. And it is such a great place to shop….nice deals even without the coupons and I love their non-foods aisles. Always something to tempt me. 😊
Mary says
Gluten free brownie mix and rice krispie treats
Crystal Paine says
I’ve heard that their gluten-free products are really good!
Susan Cadiou says
My daughter has started using their gluten-free products, for health reasons. She buys them and when I go over says “here you have to taste this”. Tonight I tried the pancake mix (something like Bisquick mix). I was surprised it was really good. Have tried a lot of these products and they really are good.
Mary Gibson says
Peanut butter at Walmart is $1,18 including honey roasted which some brands charge more for
Theresa L says
I buy almost all my groceries at Aldi. I don’t know how anyone with a family can afford to NOT shop at Aldi! I recently started Weight Watchers and I love their light bread, egg substitute, and almond milk. And they’re all about 1/2 the price of the regular grocery store. Sticking to my eating plan AND my budget?! Win, win!!
Crystal Paine says
That’s crazy that they are half the price… but I’m not surprised!
Cheryl Hershberger says
I buy as much as I can at Aldi. It was surprising to me to see how much more things are in your area. I would add sour cream, ALL canned veggies and fruit, ALL produce (ours has beautiful produce and its half the price of other stores in the area), cream soups(I use in a lot of crock pot and freezer recipes), frozen waffles, frozen pizzas (the cheapo ones too not even the deluxe ones), and canned chicken(I like to have a can or two on hand for quick sandwiches). I try everything. If they like it I keep getting it. I will say we do not like the box mac n chz, the spaghetti sauce (any flavor including marinara), and cheerios (reg or HN). We do like the canned tomatoes and otherwise my littles prefer generic cereals.
Beth says
This list surprised me because I thought you blogged before about using a bread maker and only buying organic milk? Am I confused or did you change your diet? Not being picky here, just was asking.
Crystal Paine says
We use our breadmaker — but not for sandwiches. We’ve always bought sandwich bread! 🙂
And we don’t currently buy organic milk. We’ve not found a really great source for it ever since we moved that wouldn’t require us to go way out of our way to buy it. 🙁
Alicia @ Sweeping Up Joy says
So many things! There’s a lot of overlap between our lists. 🙂 Here are some things we always pick up at Aldi:
-cream
-Greek yogurt
-old fashioned oats
-bananas
Just don’t forget the quarter!
Crystal Paine says
Oh! Those are great things to add to the list!
Shiree says
You gotta try their guacamole! It’s the best!
