I garage sale every weekend and get name brand clothes sometimes for .50-1.00. I see these pants for $8 and $14 and think….that’s no deal. 🙂
However, I will add too that name brands don’t really mean much to me so I won’t pay that much money for something just because it’s a particular “name”.

Crystal, I’ve been following you for a little while now. And I just wanted to say that when I read what you wrote about discouraging comments I felt a bit sad, but at the same time what you said in response encouraged me. I knew when you posted pics of your daughter wearing makeup, and spoke of her fashion sense, that because you have a large audience of christian ladies, there would be some hecklers. I’m sorry for that- that people can be so…critical, so nasty. But I bet you know it better than I. What encouraged me was what you decided, and what you said in response. You see, I’ve had some things in my heart to blog about for a little while now. But they scare me. I’m cautious for my children’s sake. But I felt what you said was what God would have me do. Not be afraid. Not be shaken. Thank you for your blog. And God Bless you. -Emily

Where I live, consignment stores carry clothing from Target and charge Target prices for (used) stuff. The thrift stores are even worse! I’ve seen things like stained kids’ shirts marked at $4 and pants with holes marked at $7. And not the stylish holes- worn out holes! I find better luck on clearance racks and at church rummage sales. Rummage sales are priced so low or I go on “fill a bag” day (or sometimes it’s just an hour or two) and stuff the bag full. Then if one or two items are a “dud”, it’s okay. I pass that item along or repurpose it. A sweater that doesn’t fit right becomes a draft blocker or I felt it into a doll sweater 🙂 I’ve done well on the clearance racks at surprising places this year. I live near a large grocery store that also has clothing, toys, etc. They had an extra 50% off their clearance clothing and $5 off every pair of shoes. I was able to get kids’ clearance shoes for free and shirts/pants for as low as a couple of dollars. And this was for new items! Just keep your eyes open and don’t be afraid to look at places you wouldn’t necessarily shop for clothes. Even the Kroger stores around me sell clothes!

Two words: thrift. store.
I have SUCH a nice wardrobe with clothes from Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, Tahari, etc….all from thrift stores for $10 or less. 🙂 But then, I’m very blessed to live next to an awesome store with half-prices every Wednesday.

How about using coupons? Target is pretty good about putting out clothes coupons. I just got $10 off $10 at JCPenney in the mail this last week.
