During the month of April, I’m encouraging my readers to participate in a 30-Day House Cleaning Challenge (read more here, if you missed my announcement about this challenge last week). Every week day morning at 9 a.m., I’ll post the daily project and every evening around 6 p.m. EST, I’ll post an update and link-up.
My kitchen looked like it was in pretty great shape today.
But looks can be deceiving.
Yup. All that was hiding in the cracks and crevices of the kitchen floor — including a fake nail from Kaitlynn’s beauty set. 🙂

My floor really needed a good mopping, so this challenge came at the right time!

I curious. Did you use dark grout on your tiles or were they once white? Im having a hard time keeping my grout white with 3 kids. Also we didn’t wax our tile…did you?

I have and haven’t been keeping up on this challenge. Since I work in an office that keeps me away from home 10 or more hours a day I typically do most of my cleaning on the weekend and so most of project 12-15 has been done over the weekend and really didn’t need it again yet. During the weekdays I make sure I do a little cleaning before I leave for the day (dishes and whatnot), but the bulk of the work is done on Saturday and/or Sunday. Lately I’ve been working on decluttering with my husband after we get home from work and that has been going very well! Last night I spent some time organizing the things we’ve thrown in the extra bedroom to get rid of…and whoa! I filled 5 boxes and need to get a few more boxes to be able to box up the rest of it. We’re hoping on dropping it off to Goodwill either over the weekend or next week. I think it’s going to take a few trips.

When I see ‘surface clean living room and kitchen’ on the list I think, “This will be easy, we just did this task a few days ago.” Then reality hits, I have 21 month old twins. This task needs to be done daily…twice daily. I guess that is why its on the list multiple times! 🙂
Thanks for the challenge, our home is getting lighter every day!

With two 6 year olds and a two year old their are always crumb to sweep. But I taught the 6 year olds how to use the dust pan and brush so now it’s one of their daily chores and I am less frustrated with the mess! And they really enjoy doing it so it’s a win win for us!
Mondays are my days I have little time at home so I didn’t do much but I did pick up the counters in the kitchen and straightened up the living room.

I am deceptively deceived by my kitchen floors. My last floors were white and these are a nice hue to cover all manner of ilk. I used to sweep like clockwork each night and now I do it when I step on something.
Blaire says
got my living room floor vacuumed! kitchen and rest of living room tided and cleaned!
Denise says
I love just the day to day upkeep that keeps things from getting out of control! These days of surface cleaning remind me that it does need a touch of celaning, but not like it would if there weren’t the deep cleans in-between times!
Erin @ My Mommy World says
My kitchen floor always seems to get dirty minutes after I clean it. But I guess that’s to be expected when you have two young kids, a dog and a cat 🙂
By the way, I really like the tile in your kitchen Crystal! It’s very pretty.
Shelly says
My kitchen and living room weren’t too bad today. Since starting this challenge I have noticed the little bit of cleaning each day really helps to keep the house looking great. Especially on Monday after a busy weekend and no cleaning.
My kitchen floor didn’t look too bad either but then when I mopped it. Oh how dirty the water ended up to be by the time I was done.

I am so glad that I decided to participate in this challenge it’s really opened my eyes to how quickly things can get out of hand if you aren’t consistent in approaching them.
Luba with Forever Living says
I’m sure my husband swept at least that much dirt out of our kitchen today. I washed the dishes and cleaned off all the counters since I had been keeping up on cleaning the kitchen. 🙂
Jen says
What a cute little broom and dustpan. Where did you get them?
Sarah says
Yes, where? My dollar store brush and pan are on their last legs, time to get something durable. Pretty helps too!
Crystal says
It was from a deal on Zulily.com awhile back.
Charlene @ A Virtuous Woman says
I can’t say enough about how this challenge has helped me get things caught up around my house. It still needs lots of work, but every day it gets just a little bit better than the day before!
Holi says
Wow. That is nothing. I could never ever put a photo on here! I am too scared to see what I would find.
Organize365 says
I am always amazed how much dirt there is when I sweep. And SUPER amazed at how dirty the floor is when I mop!
