It’s Day 16 of the 21 Days to a Simple Christmas Challenge!
Today, we’re talking about Christmas decor and I promised you a little peek into our Christmas decor…
We have our tree decorated with these free printable ornaments and the free printable ornaments from Ann Voskamp’s beautiful devotional, The Greatest Gift. I love how they remind us of what Christmas is all about.
This is our very, very simple Advent count-down. It’s so simple that I’m almost embarrassed to show it. However, the highlight of the morning is waking up and moving the marker a day closer to Christmas… so I guess our kids don’t seem to mind that it’s not very sophisticated. 🙂
And here’s our manger scene. You can read more about it here.
Finally, I just love our Christmas mantel. These DaySpring blocks have provided a lot of hours of enjoyment for our kids. And Jesse and I have joined in the challenge of coming up with new words to spell with them, too!
Did you do any Christmas decorating or add Christmas cheer to your home in any simple way? If so, tell us about it in the comments or share the link to your blog post (if you’re blogging about the challenge).

I sent the children to gather pinecones and I made a simple wreath last week for $3.34: http://theprudenthomemakerblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/last-weeks-frugal-accomplishments.html
I also made an advent calendar with free printable actvitities: http://theprudenthomemakerblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/advent-activities.html
Today I am making our family some stockings that I will be posting when they are done.

We have lots of decorations. Most of them were given to me by former students,Girl Scouts, parents ,teachers, and gift exchanges. We have the Advent Calender from Focus on the Family that is dated from 1995. I have 2 adult children so I can decorate with no stress of years ago when i barely got anything up.
I have the family manger set that is from 1945 when my parents were married.

Love it! This is my favorite year so far for decorating at our house!! We are slowly getting back to what Christmas is really about at our house and making the season more meaningful! 🙂

Our tree is up and has lights on, but two of my three daughters are at college – and they have requested that we wait until they get home to decorate – so tomorrow night we will have some eggnog and cookies, Christmas music and a family decorating party. I’m happy they still get excited to be part of that tradition.
When I was young our family tree was cut at Grandma and Grandpa’s on the day before Christmas (with cookies and hot chocolate at their house – of course) and put up Christmas Eve – it kept us excited and busy.

I like your advent calendar and your tree looks beautiful. It is a blessing to have kids who love the simple things.
At our house we have a few items that are special to me. I have a nativity scene that was given to our family when I was younger and now I have it for our home. My kids set it up each year.
I also have a set of candle holders that are from the 50’s they were my Great Aunt’s then my mom’s and now mine. They are special because they used to be theirs.
All of my favorite things seem to be my favorite because of the great memories connected to them. 🙂

My husband and I were given the Willow Tree nativity set and I look forward to setting it out every Christmas. Since we have little ones I also have the Little People nativity set to encourages them to play with that one and not be interested in the Willow tree one. We also have a very simple wall hanging Christmas tree countdown with pockets to move the marker and/or leave a little treat/prize.

Do you do outdoor lights, too?
Crystal says
Some years we do… it usually depends upon the house (we tend to move every few years and some of our places have been more conducive to stringing lights than others!) and how ambitious we are in December. 🙂

I still have *very* precious memories of our simple advent calendar from when I was a child. It was very simple, Mary Kay, advent calender with a little mouse that you get to move each day. It was the highlight of our mornings too! Now that I have my own little one, she has passed it on to me. 🙂

I have the same calendar! I love having it since it was mine as a child. My kids love it too,
