Some of you might not know that MoneySavingMom.com was started at one of the lowest times in our lives.

My husband had lost his job and couldn’t find a new job. We had a toddler and a newborn. Our bank account was almost empty.

We had just recently moved to Kansas City so we only knew a few families and were struggling to find friends and community — especially since our small church had folded soon after we moved there.

We felt alone, scared, and pretty hopeless. But I remember thinking, “I can’t give up! There has to be some other option than just giving up!”

So I asked myself, “What do I know? What am I good at? What can I do?”

The time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

I realized that I already knew about blogging since I had been blogging for two years. I also knew that I was good at saving money on groceries and that when I had blogged about money-saving tactics, people just ate it up. And I also knew it would be pretty simple to start a new blog about saving money on groceries.

So, out of that desperate place — and with these things in mind — MoneySavingMom.com was born!

I had no idea that it would soon turn into our family’s full-time income, would open up doors I could have never dreamed of, would allow us to pay cash for a house, would give us the opportunity to bless and inspire millions of people around the globe, would literally take us around the globe to South Africa where we would fall madly in love with the work there, would provide the ability for us to give generously, and would allow Jesse to come home full-time.

Do This Today…

I share this to encourage those of who might be feeling like you’re stuck and getting nowhere when it comes to getting your blog and online business off the ground. I’d encourage you to ask, “What can I do? What resources do I have available that I can tap into? What do I already know? What am I already good at?”

Instead of waiting for some big thing to change in your life, what’s one tiny thing you can start doing today to begin heading in the direction you want to go?

I want you to quit fantasizing about the amazing blog you’re going to build and I want you to roll up your sleeves today and make a plan. It doesn’t have to be exhaustive or incredibly detailed. But I don’t want you to go another day just wishing you could figure out how to start a blog.

The time to start is NOW. Even if it feels like you can’t do much; I want you to do something.

It’s time to stop dreaming and start doing.
