It’s Day #3 of the Get Up Early Challenge… Today, I forgot to set my alarm clock last night (cheesy mistake, but true! I was SO tired when I went to bed!)… So when I woke up on my own at 6:12 am, I chose not to beat myself up or feel like I’d failed.
Instead, I celebrated the fact that 1) I woke up fairly early — without an alarm! 2) I probably needed to extra sleep. 3) I abbreviated my morning routine so that I’d be back on track by 8 am.
We aren’t going to do things perfectly, and when we make mistakes, it’s an opportunity for us to give grace, focus on the good, and make Plan B!
I’ll be hopping on Periscope at 7:45 a.m. to share some Morning Motivation encouragement and to some thoughts and insights from The 5AM Miracle book. I’d love for you to join me or watch the replay (just download the app and search for @MoneySavingMom).
Are you joining me for the Get Up Early Challenge? If so, leave a comment on this post to let me know how you did with your wake-up goal this morning.
We’re in this together… And if you didn’t hit your goal, that’s okay! Give yourself grace, don’t beat yourself up, and know that you can try again tomorrow!

I am so sorry, my last comment I posted I forgot to put in there what time, and I am going to strive for 5:30 because my husband leaves for work around 3:30-3:45 and sometimes if I am not still awake when he leaves, I will get up with him. The other issue I have is my 4 year old has a super horrible sleep schedule and often times has way too much energy and will stay up all day and night long.

Hey all, I am so excited!!! I know im late from everyone else who has been doing this challenge. I am so glad I found everyone since this is something I really needed, more accountability besides just a friends facebook page. Well, tomorrow will be my first day, even tho its sunday but oh well. I hope to get to know other moms from this challenge as I don’t get out much due to the fact that I am social security disability and I am only 38. I have 2 kids, one 16 year old and one 4 year and a very cute grandbaby girl who will be a year on valentine’s day (please no judgements, it happened and its done) I was born with a congenital birth defect of my spine and it didn’t affect me til my oldest was 2 weeks old. I have had 2 spine surgeries and both of which failed. The hardest part of this will be the fact that I also suffer from fibro and chronic fatigue syndrome and insomnia and a handful of other issues so I don’t sleep much and I suffer in severe pain 24/7. Well, good luck everyone!!!

When my kids were young and I worked, had to have time to myself, cook breakfast, get diaper bags ready for daycare, yada, yada, I had an alarm that was set for 4:30 am each morning. I never had to set an alarm. I turned it off on weekends and turned it on on Sunday night. I had a second alarm I set for what time I needed to get up on Saturday or Sunday.
There really should be no need for turning an alarm on nightly.

That’s a good idea — I need to figure out how to set an alarm so it goes off every morning without me setting it. I’ll have to have Jesse help me with that as I’m not techie at all! 🙂

I did better the last two days and woke up at 5:30. And personally, I think it awesome that you were able to get up at 6:30 without an alarm clock! Good for you. 🙂

Made a little progress today! Woke up at 4:45 and worked on my Bible study lesson until 6…while sitting up in bed, where it was warm. 🙂 Then I worked out. Ironically, my kids woke up uncharacteristically early at 6:15. At first I was frustrated by the interruption, but after getting them settled I finished exercising. Getting up early still paid off: by 8 a.m. we were all dressed and ready for the day with beds made and breakfast finished. We even had time for a little school time before leaving for Bible study at 9. Success!

Did all of us on the Live Coaching Session last night keep you up too late? 🙂 I love your great attitude about getting your morning back on track! That’s one thing I love about having a morning routine. Even when things happen, like alarm clocks not being set, you can jump in and regroup quickly and get on with your day! By the way, I LOVED the Live Coaching Session! SO fun to get to see and know Jesse a little bit! He’s so funny!!

I got up this morning at 6;00 when Jenny and Tyler starting singing This Is Just So Beautiful:) Getting up is a bit easier now that I realized I can set a song for my alarm on my iPhone! How cool is that! Anyway, I got up on time and had a great start to my morning! Thanks for the encouragement, I hope to be able to join your Periscope tomorrow 🙂

Oh! I love the idea of setting a song for your alarm! I need to do that!

Wednesday is the day my husband leaves around 5:00 am to set up for a morning Bible study at church. So I am on my own to get the 4 kiddos ready for the bus by 8:15. The kids normally wake up between 6:30 and 7:30, depending on how they slept.
So it was great that I got up with the alarm at 6:00 am, because even though the 2 year old got up at 6:30 am, as usual, I at least got dressed, teeth brushed, contacts in, and started a load of laundry.
The best part was that everyone was ready for the bus 20 minutes early, so I let them have a rare treat of morning screen time. They were thrilled! Maybe this will start a trend for them too! They normally dawdle and drag out their morning routine like crazy!
Tomorrow I should be able to run and shower if i wake up at 6, because my husband will be home to take care of the kiddos then.
This has already been so good for me! Thanks!

I used to get up at 7 am and it took me about three months to switch to 6 am. I’m now thinking of bumping that up to 5:30. I used to hate mornings but now I love them. I love getting up, reading my Bible, exercising, eating, having a cup of coffee, and getting a load of laundry in before the kids wake up.
I think it’s important to not be too hard on ourselves when we mess up – beating yourself up only makes it harder to get up and try again.
Thanks for sharing!

I got up on time with the alarm at 4:45, reluctantly. When I got on the scale and saw that I had lost 1lb, it changed my mindset and I was motivated to work out. I’m so glad I got up. I would have been upset with myself if I hadn’t and missed the opportunity to work out and make a positive difference.

The first 2 days have gone well. Today, my husband was home to take our daughter to a doctor appointment a couple hours away, so I took advantage of sleeping in an extra hour. I still had everyone fed, and I’m showered, by 9:30. It’s not a “fail,” just a simple adjustment.

In your original post about getting up at 5am for the new year, I thought you said that you and Jesse are doing this together. As another reader mentioned, I think it is much easier to get up early when my husband does as well. So did Jesse also sleep in, or is he getting up even earlier and heading out to the gym or something?
Kellie says
I was wondering the same thing!

I turned the alarm off and stayed in bed an extra 10 minutes. Watching your and Jesse’s goal setting course just before bed last night had my brain working all night and I wanted to sleep an extra 30 minutes;) But then I remembered this #GetUpEarlyChallenge and got up, poured my coffee, started praise music, turned on my Scentsy burner, and had my quiet time before getting ready for work. Arrived to my office 10 minutes early! Yay! 🙂

Crystal, great job getting back on track!
I had a really successful morning. I got up on time, got the fire going, and wrote 469 words before I had to get moving on the rest of my morning routine. I’m definitely inspired to keep going with this!

There must be something in the air. I use my phone as my alarm clock, but manage to forget to bring it upstairs last night. I too manage to “oversleep” by about an hour.
I am being kid to myself. I will have success with this tomorrow!

Snoozed twice this morning. 🙁 It was so darned cold outside the bed! But I was up about 20 minutes after my goal time, and in 1 1/2 hours I have showered, awakened my children (they sleep until 10 if I let them!), dressed my babies, and am enjoying somewhat peaceful coffee. I will be quite ready for sleep at 10 pm I think!

Today both my husband and I got up at 5:30. It made such a difference to have him get up at the same time! However, our children heard us (oh, the joys of small house living!) and also got up. We chose to make the best of it, however, and listened to the daily Scripture readings as a family and said Morning Prayers together. I was able to leave the house by 6:30 and get some things done at work. Good morning!
