I’ve never had good luck with freezing and defrosting fat free or 1% milk. 2% and whole no problem what so ever, you’ll have to tell me your secret

I’m so jealous of your mark downs! I have OrganicGirl coupons and Earthbound Farms Organic coupons and would LOVE to find produce marked down to 0.99!! Time to start talking to Produce managers around town 🙂 Thank you for the tip!

I wish I knew what kind of health food store. I have Celiac and I love those bagels/bread…but they are WAY TOO Expensive to keep buying here in STL.
Gretchen says
It is just a locally owned health food store. Most of their prices are way more than I would ever pay for food but I go there to look in the markdown bin which is where I find most of the items I buy. You could always ask your local stores if they ever mark down expiring bread. A while ago I talked with a store employee at my local health food store and she told me what day they usually mark down which items.

Jealous of your milk deal! We go through 7 gallons a week and I don’t even drink it! My husband, 7yo daughter, 4yo son and 19mo daughter do!
Mona says
Wow! Awesome deal on the milk! I’m just a tad jealous (we got through milk pretty fast)…that would last us maybe 10 days! 🙂
Gretchen says
I know! I was very happy especially since it’s organic! 🙂

Gretchen is that dish washing soap for your dishwasher? I am just curious because I just came across a new recipe for dishwasher tabs that is awesome and does not cost much. I was also wondering if you and Crystal ever make your own laundry soap. Let me know if you want the recipe it actually works.
Gretchen says
No, that soap is just for had washing. We ran out completely last week so it was kind of an emergency situation as I couldn’t wait for a good deal. 😉 I have several friends who make their own laundry soap and I might have to try that someday. Right now, I have an entire cabinet full of laundry soap I have gotten for $1 or less (that is my stock up price) so that is what I’m using.

I’d love to see the recipe for the dishwasher tabs. Please share.
Jackie says
Busy Mama here ya go:
1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
1 cup Borax
1/2 cup epsom salt
3/4 cup lemon juice
Mix all ingredients and disperse amongst ice cube trays. I would only fill them half way so the door on your soap dispenser will close. Then let them sit for 24 hrs. Store in an airtight container. I was worried this would leave soap scum as we have really hard water. So far so good and I have used this at least six times now. I do a load in the dishwasher everyday. Hope this helps.

I’m curious…what kind of health food store does she shop at to find such great deals?
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
You actually would not need to shop at health food stores. You can price match at Walmart and Target, to stores such as Aldo and Winn-Dixie, you can also go to manufactures websites, such as commonkindness.com and driscolls.com, and get printables. I would also recommend searching for mail-in-rebates, and trying to both coupon shop, price match, and pair these deals with rebate apps such as checkout51, ibotta, and shopmium; also uploading receipts to receipt hog helps as well. I generally buy half organic weekly, and save 60-80% on groceries.
Donna says
We don’t have Target with a full grocery store. Doesn’t Wal-Mart only price match the same brand? Aldi doesn’t carry regular brands, (right? never been, not very close), so they wouldn’t price match. If you meant produce, i don’t buy produce from Walmart on the advice of my husband who is a produce mgr for another chain. I can’t seem to get the ibotta app on my phone and could never get the checkout 51 app to work right 🙁 I do coupon and shop the sales, but mostly stick to 2 stores – 1 for most of my shopping and the other for their discounts on expiring bread and dairy. I don’t have the time currently to do more than that, but that may change soon. I do plan to check out Aldi soon when school starts and I can go alone!
Misty Nicole Overstreet-Roberts (The Lady Prefers To Save) says
Walmart price matches based on type, and any location within 30 miles of any store. If you mean produce, being a brand name would not matter, as you can price match from any store in your area, and they also price match their brand dairy, so that’s a huge savings there. You should read over the Walmart coupon and price matching policy online, as there are several points in there that could help you that you seem unfamiliar on. As for not buying produce in your local Walmart, I thought the same too, until I read the recent article in All You about Walmart now carrying over 1,400 organic brands, including more produce that is wax and pesticide free, due to stricter EPA regulations. There are a lot of ways to save money without having to shop co-ops and markets, especially out of season.
Gretchen says
We have several different health food stores in my area. I find out the days when they mark down produce/bread/dairy that is expiring and then go on those days. Most grocery stores/health food stores do this so it would definitely be worth asking your local stores if and when they mark down expiring items. I hope that helps!
Donna says
I was curious if it was like an Earth Fare or Whole Foods or a small local health food store. I know of 1 small one here, but have never been as it’s not close by.
Lori Ewart says
Wow… You were blessed with some awesome markdowns!!! Great shopping!!
