I’m so sorry that this is late this morning — I didn’t have internet for a few hours this morning! Thanks for your patience! 🙁
I’ve set aside the month of March to really focus on organization in my home and life. And I’d love for you to join me!
Every weekday morning at around 10 a.m. EST, I’ll be posting the day’s assignment and then every evening at around 8 p.m. EST, I’ll be posting my progress and pictures, along with a link-up for you to share your progress and pictures, too.
Day 2 Assignment
::Get dressed in something that makes you feel great {there’s something about dressing in clothes that make you feel great that just gives you more energy and zest for life!}
::Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea, refer to your list of weekly goals, and make a list of no more than 5-7 specific things you want to accomplish today.
::Complete your morning routine {if you don’t have a morning routine, take some time to create one today! Read my How to Develop a Routine That Works–And Stick With It series for step-by-step help.}
::Set the timer for 15 minutes and do a quick-clean of your kitchen: wash the dishes/load the dishwasher, clear off the countertops, and, if you have time, wipe down the countertops and the outside of the cupboards with wet rag or cleaning cloth.
::Clean out your refrigerator. There’s a step-by-step guide for cleaning out your refrigerator here.
::Find 7 items to get rid of today. Throw them out, stick them in a donate or garage sale box, give them to a friend who can use them, or list them on Craigslist or eBay.
Note: If you work outside the home or have a really busy week with little time for extra projects, just do the bolded project above.

I’m inspired by your bite size checklist for getting the house in order this month. While I’m behind, I’m making progress. Today is a snow day and my 3 yo twins make it a bit challenging for me to get any of my 9-5 work done so instead I’ve put them to work around the house. We cleaned the fridge, adjusted the height for the dishwasher that shifted over time, hung a lamp and have a few more things on our list. Woot woot!
Stephanie says
A few days behind but still working the plan! Fridge & freezer cleaned out! Our goal this month is to eat thru the freezer and get it cleaned out. 15 minutes of cleaning the kitchen made it look fresh!
My 7 items included: 3 bottles to toss from the shower, an old bar of soap, 1 expired ketchup bottle and 2 books to list on Amazon.

After looking for things to throw out, I found a huge box of mailed samples; this weekend I am going to put them in small gift bags from the dollar tree, enough toiletries for a night, and take them to my local women’s shelter, and call them “blessing bags.”

I spot cleaned the fridge, and it was already free of any old food. I have been organizing my freezer as well. Kitchen is mostly clean. I’m due next month with baby #2, so this challenge is great to help motivate me while I still have (some) energy! I did my purse last night, but the diaper bag needs to be wiped down and packed for our new baby. I have found some old magazines to toss. Thanks for doing this!
Shelley says
I did this yesterday Yahoo!

Cleaned out the fridge and can’t believe how many things were expired! It’s a good feeling to have it all organized and know if my kids eat something they won’t get food poisoning! I have to do that more often..

Way to go!

I’m doing it! The fridge was painful but it is now sparkling! I have so much clutter right now that getting rid of 7 things a day is so easy. The hardest part is just getting everything done with a 6 month old. I am determined although I know I will have to be flexible and creative at times because my baby likes to be held. I will probably accomplish many of my goals while wearing a baby!
Hannah Reid says
I did most of the list today, except I couldn’t come up with seven things besides just trash that had somehow been sitting around too long…does that count?

Ditto on the reminder someone commented above about cleaning the coils on your refrigerator! We have moved 3 times in the last 2 years. At each of our new homes it was obvious that the coils had not been cleaned in YEARS!!! Trust me, your fridge will run much more efficiently if the coils are clean and it will save you money on electricity!
Jessica says
I have no words for what we found under the fridge, stove, and washer dryer in our new home. I think the previous owners even had a cleaning lady!
Sonia says
Fridge is sparkling clean! Feels great to accomplish something. I keep opening the door to see how nice and organized and clean it is in there. Now for things to sell…..
Crystal Paine says
Woohoo! I love it!

I have to laugh. For the second day in a row I did what was on the list before I saw the list. That was weird. I even got adventurous and pulled the fridge away form the wall and vacuumed behind it. There was stuff back there that I thought had gotten lost. The old put it on top of the fridge for later thing. Needless to say that got cleaned also.
Crystal Paine says
Way to go!!! I guess great minds think alike! 🙂

As I opened the fridge this morning I thought, “I really need to clean this thing out.”, but wasn’t in the mood to do so. Imagine my surprise when I clicked on today’s challenge! Thanks for the motivation, assignment completed!

Have not cleaned out the fridge yet, but took the wiping down the outside of cupboards really seriously! Discovered all kinds of grease splatter on the under cabinet lights–yuck! So, hope to tackle the fridge later today. Thanks so much for the motivation. 🙂
Sandy says
I already got a lot of this done! Happy to have some organization today!

Hooray! I got rid of: a Mardi Gras king cake (I made three this weekend, and already ate one myself, so this one needed to go to a better home), an excess reusable water bottle, an expired tube of chili paste, an expired bottle of barbecue sauce, and several packets of garden seeds that I’m not realistically going to plant this year.

I finally got my goals written down and a better morning routine planned out. Now to implement them in the days to come.
I happened to clean out the fridge yesterday so that was done! 🙂 I took about 30 minutes in the kitchen to clean up all the dishes, and cleaned out a cabinet in the bathroom and pulled 23 items out to either throw away, recycle, or donate (mostly from my magazine pile! LOL).
Melissa says
I hadn’t checked your site yet, we are having another snow day, which always throw off my routine, but I cleaned my fridge this morning. I was hoping it was the extra. There was spilled pineapple juice and it had to be done and so needed it. Woohoo!

I accidentally found myself playing along today: beneath the freezer drawer of my freezer-bottom fridge has long bothered me because of the bits that have accumulated, such as shreds of onion skin and overflown-and-frozen salsa juice. But I hadn’t done anything about it because I had to pull out the freezer door and warm up the surface to clean that area … not a 15 min job.
Last night I realized I was wrong. If I pulled the drawer all the way out, I could slip my hand (and a very hot sponge) behind the drawer. Five minutes later it was clean.
Which leads me to my point: you don’t have to clean the whole fridge if that’s too much to do at one time. You can do one shelf or one drawer at a time. My thinking is, if that’s what it takes to get the job done, then that’s how the job should be done.
Good luck all.

There are always things to get in the way. I was ready to go this morning. Got my morning routine done and was working on my list of what I need to accomplish today when….Our garage door broke! My husband could not get the car out. So, I put in a movie for the kids and went out to move the monstrosity of junk my husband has in the garage (another to do list). Thankfully he was able to shimmy the van back and forth and get out. So I am now back on track. I did look ahead and noticed that Friday is clean the couch day so I decided to swap today’s clean fridge for friday (easier since it will be emptied by friday too). I also decided to do all the laundry in the house today which made getting rid of 7 things very easy.
Kristan says
I’m a day late on finding this but better late than never right?
This is definitely going to help me and at 30 weeks pregnant I need all the organizing help I can get!

When cleaning out the fridge, also remember to clean the coils underneath!

Cześć! Pozdrowienia z Polski. Twój plan trafia do mnie po południu (przesunięcie czas), więc mam dzień opóźnienia w pracach 🙂
Ale daję radę. Czyszczenie lodówki jutro przed pracą.
Pozdrawiam

Here’s a rough translation:
“Hi! Greetings from Polish. Your plan sent to me in the afternoon (time shift), so I have a day delay in the works 🙂
But I give advice. Cleaning the fridge before work tomorrow.
Regards”

Just when I thought I didn’t have a lot of stuff…wow! Getting rid of seven things is shockingly easier than I thought. Now to clean out the fridge. Hope everyone is having a good day!

I found a stack of t-shirts (20+ shirts) and a few books to get rid of. I also cleaned out my fridge – unfortunately, the baking soda mixture from the refrigerator link left an insane residue on everything so I’m going to have to clean it again a second time. Oh well, it’ll be really clean! I love accomplishing so much. (I think if I ever get to the point that I can only find 7 things to get rid of, I’m going to be thrilled.)

Jumping in again with both feet today! 🙂 I picked 6 items to sell on Facebook this morning – and they’re already pending pick up. Now I need to clean out my fridge and find one more item! I love getting to revamp my morning routine – my old one was in need of a tune up, so this is a great time to reevaluate and tweak here and there. Good luck today, everybody!

It’s been soooo long since I’ve cleaned out our fridge! I’m so looking forward to completing this task tonight. Thanks for doing this series Crystal!
