We survived the first week of swim lessons for all three children. While we got off to a rocky start at the beginning of the week since two children were struggling with quite a bit of fear of going under water, by the end of the week, all three children are loving their lessons — which I am so happy about! And we’re considering continuing on with more lessons after this first two-week period, if the excitement and progress keeps up. We’ll see!
We celebrated a successful week of swim lessons by heading to Grandma & Grandpa’s house to swim in their above-ground pool. Gratefully, it was a hot day because the water was freezing — especially at first!
I didn’t get any pictures because I was so focused on helping all three children swim. But we had a great time — and the children were especially excited that Mommy swam, too! 🙂
Since we didn’t have any pictures from today, I thought I’d share these pictures of the children all ready and decked out in their goggles and swim cover-ups before we left for lessons yesterday. I don’t suppose I have to mention the fact that we’ve got quite a bit of energy and personality at our house. It’s a little loud and crazy at times, but we have so much fun and laugh so often that it makes it all worth it! 🙂
Did you do something fun and frugal as a family today? If you blogged about it, I’d love for you to leave a link to your blog post below. Or, you can just tell us what you did in the comments.
Note: Since the purpose of this series is to encourage you to be intentional about fun in your home this summer, please only link up posts showing pictures/sharing details of fun things you did as a family today (or within the last few days). Posts that do not adhere to these guidelines will be deleted in order to make it fair for those who are putting forth a lot of effort to participate in this challenge.

Oh my goodness! Pictures like these are my total favorite. So sweet. Seriously. They are completely adorable!
Have you seen the examples on pinterest how like 10-20 yrs later, people will replicate pictures from their childhood with similiar poses and outfits? These would be hysterical!

Okay, those pictures are just precious! Thanks for sharing bits of your family’s life with us! 🙂

Cute Kiddos! Love the googles 🙂
Brenda says
Such great pictures, I love how God makes each kid so unique. Now I need to go give each of mine a squeeze 🙂

I LOVE these pictures! As far as giving summer fun ideas, I fall into two catagories…either older kids (3rd grade and up)from my teaching experience, or the younger ones (sine I am 39 1/2 weeks pregnant). I will have to store these ideas for later down the road!

So cute. I love how the little one is looking at his big sisters to make sure he is “doing it right”.
Crystal says
Yes, he cracks me up how he tries to constantly mimic them!
Wendy says
I have heard the youngest child provides the comic relief in the family. It’s certainly true here. Looks that way with you too 🙂
Heather Chung says
They are adorable!

So cute & funny! I think swimming lessons for kids are so important. My two boys have both “graduated” from the highest level of lessons and my daughter has one level to go. It was definitely time and money well-spent, since they are such strong swimmers now.

This is my favorite series you’ve ever done on your blog. Loving the pics of the munchkins 🙂
Crystal says
I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I’m having fun doing it!

Kids in googles what could be cuter. We have had horrible storms here the last 24 hours and lost power for almost 8 hours. My daughter and I ended up playing board games. Which was my post that I had written earlier that day!

Precious children you have! We’ll be starting swimming lessons next week. The kids can’t wait. Tonight we had fun with a pizza and movie night.
San Diego Deals and Steals says
first off – they are so cute! love their little attitudes – so silly! Second – thanks so much for all the inspiration for frugal family fun! There is SO much pressure to put kids in every camp under the sun and go to every theme park, etc, etc – we are spending a lot of time at VBS & parks 😉 we are lucky enough to have Legoland tickets this summer – but mostly looking for frugal ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Cheranne Johnson says
Legoland is wonderful! we took our son there this April while visiting Florida and he absolutely loved it 🙂 enjoy it!
San Diego Deals and Steals says
oh! fun – we haven’t been to Florida yet – the California one is literally 15 minutes from us – we went last summer too – VERY fun place for sure!

Your kids are so cute. I wish we had good enough weather to go swimming. We have not even set up our above ground pool yet, it has been too cold and rainy. Our summers don’t seem to start until July 5th around here.
It is great all your kids are enjoying their swim lessons now.
Wendy says
Cold and rainy sounds good to me. My thermometer has read 104 in the shade the past two days and no rain for over 3 weeks. My garden is drying up 🙁
Shelly says
I am so glad we are not having that kind of weather here. I hope it cools off some really soon for you. I will take rainy, cloudy weather any day over 104 in the shade. I am sorry your garden is drying up.

Priceless pictures but makes me think of see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. 🙂 The see part is covered but need one to cover ears and one to cover mouth.
Crystal says
I totally need to have them do a picture like that — thanks for the great idea!

Sorry, my link is really long and stretched out the line. Anyway, we did several fun things today: the kids played with some shaving cream I was trying to get rid of, they made boats out of empty milk cartons and floated them outside, and we had orange juice popsicles. Thankfully my mom is visiting so she kept them busy outside while I decluttered. Hooray for moms!
Heather@Creative Family Moments says
We went swimming too! And I remembered we had an underwater camera. So we compared pics from now and 5 years ago. Way fun!
Crystal says
Oh, an underwater camera sounds cool!

We are surrounded by water out here in Washington State, so we consider swimming lessons a must!
Our boys haven’t always loved them, but the oldest is now quite a good swimmer, and the youngest, well….he’s working on it.
This time of year there are so many tragic drownings in the news. I think swim lessons are one of those things that are both frugal and priceless.
Oh, and the pics are great!
Crystal says
I agree… we know of families here who have lost children to drowning so it’s really important to us that our children learn how to swim. The lessons we’re doing are at our local swim club which is dedicated to doing all they can to prevent childhood drownings. They are really committed to this and it shows clearly in how they teach.

Picture number 4 deserves to be hung in the house. Perhaps blown up and hung over the fireplace. So cute!

AGREE!!!!!!!
Megan says
Are you guys taking lessons at Wichita Swim Club?
Crystal says
Yes, we’ve been really happy with our experience so far. Have you done lessons with them?
Marie says
Your kids are so stinken cute!!! I love it. Sounds very much like my house, loud but full of laughter. Glad your kids are enjoying it. I can’t believe they have them putting their heads under water all ready? I still have a hard time getting my 5 year olds to do that!
We also enjoyed swimming. Our friends have an inground pool and their kids are all grown and out of the house so they love having people over to swim. The kids had a great time as did I.
I had some special time with just my daughter the other day getting our nails done and tomorrow my son gets to go with daddy on a men’s day at the lake fishing with other men/boys from church.
Crystal says
Pretty much the first skill they teach at the swim club is for the children to be comfortable going underwater and blowing bubbles out versus sucking air in. I think once Kaitlynn and Silas got that, they are now really enjoying lessons and just swimming in general. It’s been fun to see their progress in just a week!
Courtney says
Loving your ideas for summer fun…we’re up for swimming lessons next week!
Courtney says
Eeek..we just had a little power outage…and it messed me up…I linked up the WRONG page the first time (the first ice block, full of treasure)…can you delete it, please!!!!
Linda says
I’m smiling from ear-to-ear looking at those precious children so full of character!
They are so precious, Crystal!
