You said you read marriage books with Jesse. What are yall reading now? My husband and I need some inspiration.
Crystal says
Um, it’s a Christian marriage book… and I’m pretty sure I’d blush a little bit too much if I said the title. 😉 But one I would recommend that we also both read this year was Rekindling the Romance.

Crystal, I’ve had a baby afghan knitting project on my goals for what seems like forever. This week, I’ve just finally broken it down into rows. My goal is to try to do 25 rows on this baby afghan. I think that seems manageable, so if you don’t get half your scarf done this week, you might want to break it down into rows next week.
Crystal says
Thanks for the great idea! Hmm… brainstorming here! 🙂

I did really well with my goals last week, though I think I always overload myself. I need to stick to a smaller limit; I had about 20 goals last week and completed all but two.
One thing that helps me (and may work for other working moms) is a spin off the “Make the Most of Your Morning” posts. I try to make the most of my lunch break from work. I have wonderful hours (8:15 to 4:15ish with an hour or more lunch break), but I live nine blocks from my work. Yesterday, I made two lasagnas at lunch – one for the freezer, one for a friend who had a baby. This was after I had eaten a sandwich with the hubby.
My usual lunch break starts with us eating together for 20-30 minutes together. Then, we tackle household projects: folding clothes, ironing, dishes, sweeping, etc. It works really well for us! Plus, I don’t have as much facing me when I get home after work.

Crystal,
I love it that you are so real with us. And I love it that you didn’t meet the goal of editing the book on self-discipline. I mean that nicely. It’s totally something I would do!
Crystal says
It’s just a good thing that the ebook isn’t on procrastination. 😉
Kari says
That’s my area of expertise! I’ll write an ebook on that…somday! 😉

I saw you re listening to “switch”. I love that book. Each chapter is like reading a mini mystery in which you can’t wait to see how it turns out. I especially liked the one about helping with nutrition with the little babies in the humanitarian effort. I was like, “how are they ever going to accomplish this change?” but they did it! The next book I read after this was “Habit”. I wrote about it in another post comment. It is an excellent book that reads like mini mysteries each chapter.
My next book I want to read is the one you recommended called “Stop Acting Rich” by Thomas Stanley that you recommended. I love how you always read and share really good life-changing books on your blog!
Crystal says
I’m really enjoying Switch, but I’m thinking I may want to read it, in addition to listening to audiobook since I feel like I’d glean so much more by actually reading it — especially since I’m more of a visual learner!

We have a new schedule in our house, so we’re taking the month to really fine tune our morning routine.
Yesterday was a long day. I forgot to bring a book with me & I had nothing to do on the train!

I didn’t do too bad with my goals last week. It was a pretty good week. This week I am going to be a little busy getting ready to start homeschooling. We have been doing a little school this summer but not too much. So I am gearing up this week. I want to get some peaches this week to can and dry too. I am hoping to get out to the farmers stands later this week.
I have the book Happier at Home coming too, I should be getting it soon. I am looking forward to reading it.
Sherry Lochner says
While I don’t have a blog, I guess I can write mine on here?
1. Detailed dusting of living room
2. Make shopping list from menus made last week and find necessary coupons
3. Clean all the dining room blinds
4. Clean fridge before shopping at end of week
5. Get supplies and do craft.
6. Exercise three times this week
7. Write two encouraging notes
8. Finish reading “A Woman’s Place” by Lynn Austin
9. Make some goodies for someone in church.
10. Plan a family night for this weekend.
Crystal says
Sounds like a great list of goals!
Tie the Money Knot says
Goals for this week: take care of health by sleeping a good 7.5 hours per night, drinking no soda, eating at home all week, and working out 3 times.
Erin says
Did you like the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? I’ve read so many great things about it, but have had a hard time getting into it.
Crystal says
I enjoyed it alright — not as much as other fiction books just because there wasn’t the spiritual depth/meaning there that I’ve enjoyed from other Christian authors. But it made me want to join a literary society and find more local people who love books and discussing them!
Also, it took me a few tries to get into. And I wasn’t captivated like I’ve been by some books, but I did enjoy it.
Carol@simple_catholic says
I thought your goal to finish a scarf in one week pretty amazing. I think I’m a rather slow knitter because it can take a several weeks to finish a decent sized scarf! I hope you post a picture. 🙂
Did pretty good with my goals this week – in large part due to the “Make the Most of Your Mornings” challenge. Getting into the routine of getting up early has been the best thing in helping me get my days started off in the right foot and accomplishing my goals!
Crystal says
I will definitely post a picture. I’m happy with how it’s turning out!
Sharon @momondealz says
It’s definitely hard to create blog posts with goals and then have to report back the following week-it hurts a little to have to say you didn’t do one! LOL My husband and I tried p90x for a while but I didn’t really love it, I am a big fan of the insanity workouts because they are shorter and I sweat more. LOL
Gina says
My sister loves to knit! I wish I knew how. I hope you will post a picture when you’re finished. 🙂 Thank you for allowing us to share our goals together on your blog! I found that I had too many goals last year. So, I’m keeping my weekly goals list much shorter for the 2012-2013 school year. You’re such an inspiration!
Crystal says
Way to go on changing things up to better suit what works for you!
The Prudent Homemaker says
Now that I finally have a blog I can link in rather than just posting. You’re right–it’s a bit intimidating! It’s also a help in accountability!
Angie @ Creating Our Home says
Silly question….Do you and Jesse read the same book or are you just together while reading different books? Either way, it’s a great idea!
Crystal says
We’re reading a marriage book together.
Brandy says
I decided to start this week with posting my goals thanks to your inspiration! I am really feeling like I need my goals written down and I am hoping that blogging about it will help me stay accountable! Thanks!
Crystal says
Yay! You can do it! I’m cheering for you!
Brandy says
Thanks! 🙂
