I am SO excited about this giveaway! You see, I first heard about the Dressing Your Truth Course from a reader who highly recommended it to me and suggested that I look into it.
At first, I didn’t really think it was something for me. After all, I’m the girl with the minimalist wardrobe. The girl who only wore a few colors. The girl who would happily wear the same thing over and over and over again.
But as more and more people recommended it, I decided to just at least take a peek at it. I was intrigued enough that when the folks at Dressing Your Truth asked if I’d write a review of their program, I told them I’d consider it.
However, I said I would only write a review on two conditions: 1) That I loved the program and found it to be very helpful and 2) if they’d do a giveaway for my readers.
In all honesty, I didn’t think I’d like the program. I thought I’d probably watch one or two of the lessons and decide it just wasn’t worth my time or your time. So I doubted I’ll actually end up even writing a review or running a giveaway.
Boy, was I ever wrong!
I actually ended up finding the entire course utterly fascinating! And many, many of you who have been with me in person over the past few months have not only heard me passionately sharing about it, you’ve also probably noticed that I’m gradually shifting over to wearing much more bold and bright colors.
Why? Because going through the course helped me to really solidify what type of person I am and what colors and styles really mesh with my inner personality and bents. It’s been amazing to me to realize that when I dress in accordance to the type of personality I have, I feel much more confident and energetic.
What is the Dressing Your Truth Course?
In the Dressing Your Truth course you’ll discover which of the 4 Types of beauty you express, plus learn the tools for how to express your true beauty through your clothes, accessories, makeup and hair.
This 3-hour course teaches you about the 5 elements of style—color, fabrication, texture, design lines, and pattern—and how to determine what type of person you are and how you should dress for that type. It shares in-depth suggestions for not only clothes, but also accessories, makeup, and hair.
By helping you learn exactly what looks best on you, the Dressing Your Truth course not only transforms your outward appearance to match your inner true personality, but it also saves you a lot of time and effort because you’ll be able to streamline your wardrobe down to those styles and colors and patterns that look best on you and fit your personality type.
Caveat: Some of the parts of the course are a little “out there” and borderline weird. But overall, I found the course to be very interesting and engaging, very thought-provoking, and very eye-opening to me. In fact, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to approach clothes and how I dress in the same way again as a result of going through this course.

I just took this course last week and LOVED it! I got rid of my entire wardrobe and went to the thrift store and got an entire new one, a cart full of clothes and shoes, for $140. It took me no time to walk down the aisle because I knew exactly what I was looking for and all but three things I kept in my cart (and those three didn’t stay because they were a little small) Thrift stores are the perfect place to find clothes for DYT because you are not ruled by what is available in the stores and I am a plus size and it worked also! Thanks for the recommendation, it has already changed my life, I feel more free already. Yes, Carol is new agey but the foundational truth is there, God created all of us differently and with various shapes and personalities. I also have worn mostly Type 2 to try to blend in and not come across so decisive because I tend to intimidate other women, when I am Type 3 with a secondary 1. I am over it! I also had come to cross road in my life and this was perfect timing for me. Thanks!

The new age woo woo on this is just UNBEARABLE. I had to turn it off before I even made it through the 2nd lesson
I’ve skipped ahead to lesson 3 and it’s not TOO bad. Well… You can do without lesson 2, but parts of lesson 3 are important unfortunately. Because the woo woo on it is still awful 🙁

I jus finished the free course and can’t figure out if I’m a 2 or 4.

I sadly missed the deadline for the give-away. I signed up for the free emails, and have been liking what I see on the website. Do you think you could speak to the company and arrange for a special sign up offer for your readers?

At first I was excited to check this out, as I’ve never heard about it before. But after looking into the sight, & seeing several before and after pictures, I realized that I liked a lot of the ‘before’ pics better and the some of the after ones looked a bit odd. I was wondering if this is a Utah-LDS thing, as most of the clothes on the site and in the testimonies remind me of ‘Utah’ fashion.
Mary says
Kilene’s before picture is much better. She aged herself by 10-15 years. I thought many of the before pictures seemed more true to themselves.
Jennifer says
I’ve lost 80 pounds since September and have five more to go and am trying to figure out how to dress my new body best. This would be so fantastic!

Would love a fresh start with this awesome giveaway…
Thank you for the opportunity 🙂

I thought it is cool how caring Carol is and I admire her compassion for gals who are struggling.
Even though you warned us, the new-agey stuff still startled me, lol.
unstuckification.com had a negative experience with the whole fashion/beauty personality typing process and tells people just in case, not to toss their old wardrobe for at least 6 months, and I think that is wise advice.
I think I’m a type 1 and have a closet full of darker colors because I feel like my personality draws enough attention to itself as it is without me dressing in the fun clothes all the time. I do own a few bright things that I wear occasionally. And I’m OK with that, its not ruining my life or anything.
Also, there is no rule that says you have to look “put together” to be a decent person, right?

I started DYT a year ago and I love it. Shopping is so much more fun now! I’m a T4 too although I dressed like a T2 for so long. I had some of both types of clothing. It really simplifies your wardrobe, helps you create style and there is so much support. If you want more information, I did a transformation series on my blog: http://jsknowlton.blogspot.com/p/dressing-your-truth.html. I start with my (un) Fashion story. I do agree there is a little new age thought blended in, but for the most part Carol wants you to find your true beauty inside and out. She is very encouraging and positive and has so many fabulous ideas. I am so grateful for her knowledge and creativity to bring out the best in all women.

Not really interested in the course, but I’d love the money for a new wardrobe. *grin*

If we don’t win, how do we take the course?
Crystal Paine says
I’d recommend signing up for the free videos first (through the link in the post). If you find those helpful, you’ll receive more info on how to sign up. Or you can find more information at DressingYourTruth.com

I just finished watching the first free video from their site. I’m not judging you at all or saying you shouldn’t use this program, but she definitely uses New Agey buzzwords and concepts. Just something for people to be aware of.
Mel says
Yes, it does. I think that’s what Crystal was referring to when she said some parts were “a little out there” and “borderline weird.”
I wholeheartedly disagree with the new-age spin Carol Tuttle (the creator of DYT) puts on her writing and work, but I think it’s easily ignored. I have found it easy to discard the bad and pay attention to the good. And the good in this course has been very helpful for me.
Hope that helps!

Agree with the New Age flavor of this–very concerning. Folks who are educated on the way New Agers have basically created their own (false) gods can overlook the stuff. But what about those not grounded in real truth? I’d hate to help anyone along the New Age path. I did a little research on Carol Tuttle and I’d say she was more than just a little ‘out there’.

A quick look at this webpage may help a person make up their mind whether they want to choose Carol Tuttle as their teacher: http://caroltuttle.com/
Mandi Czarnecki says
Is this a good option for the style challenged? I feel so lost at putting outfits together. What goes with what, what accessories, ect. I buy atyff I like in stores and then have a hard time pairing them with anything.
Crystal Paine says
I’d definitely recommend signing up for the free emails on their site and looking through the site. Another option is to ask a friend who is good with clothes/accessorizing to give you some input and suggestions.
Janice says
Yes! I too was style challenged, and hated shopping. After DYT shopping is simple, and I don’t dread it. I feel like I can put an outfit together super easy.
Leslie says
This looks very interesting and fun. However, quite an investment. Is the investment at full cost really worth it? Thanks!
Crystal Paine says
I’d start with the free options on their site first. You can learn a LOT from those and they can help you decide whether the investment is worth it or not.
Dawn says
Leslie,
They have so much FREE!!! There are videos on YouTube you can watch on the different types. One you figure out your type, for FREE, you can see many ways to dress and choose items. She really does offer a lot for those who can’t do the whole course.
Janice says
They often have a sale, (especially around holidays) to get the full course for $99 (and sometimes with a $10 in store credit) It’s totally worth it, but definitely wait for a sale.
Mel says
I’ve been a DYT member for a couple of years now. I LOVE it! When you find your correct type, it makes a huge difference in your personal style.
Crystal: I’ve thought about mentioning DYT to you several times. But I’ve always had you pegged as a Type 2! Granted I don’t know you personally, but everything about your writing, the way you describe your personality and your friendships, the way you structure your days, your hobbies, your gestures and body language … it all screams Type 2 to me. If you aren’t a Type 2, it’s got to be your secondary and very strong secondary. Right?
I highly recommend DYT!
Crystal Paine says
I had initially thought I was a Type 2, but after going through the course, I realized that I’ve been living/dressing like a Type 2 because of a variety of things from my past that made me feel like that’s who I was “supposed” to be, but that’s not really who I am deep down. So it’s been really freeing for me to let that Type 4 personality out and dressing as a Type 4 has been a great place for me to start. 🙂
Raquel Evans says
You are way too organized, energetic and efficient to be a type 2! 🙂
The funny thing is that I’m not any of those things, but after looking through the free materials, so far I’m thinking I’m a type 4 also. I’m having a really hard time believing we could be the same type though!
Debbie says
Crystal,
Thank you for introducing me to Dressing Your Truth! I also had you picked for Type 2, as far as the softness of it goes. But, the structure of you is definitely Type 4, which is what I am.
I’m already looking at my clothes differently and thinking about what to get rid of.
Thanks again!
Danielle says
So, what’s your “type,” Crystal? Are you going to post a before & after too? 🙂
Crystal Paine says
I’m a type 4. I’ve been slowly transitioning to wearing Type 4 clothes and have loved the difference it has made. Many who follow me on Instagram are noticing that I’m slowly branching out and getting brave in the clothing department when it comes to incorporating more and more Type 4 colors and styles into my wardrobe {https://instagram.com/themoneysavingmom/}. 🙂
Tiffany from Texas says
Are you still able to buy your clothes from a thrift store or do you find that you shop at regular stores but love it more? (I hope that makes sense!)
Crystal Paine says
I have a mix of used and new clothes. Most of my used clothes come from ThredUp or LikeTwice and then I supplement those with things I find great deals on elsewhere.
Janice says
I’ve done DYT for a couple years now, and I find that DYT made shopping at thrift stores super easy! Before they were overwhelming, but now I know exactly what I’m looking for, so I can tune out the rest!
Shonda says
HI Crystal- I suggest that you completely dress Type 4 for one month and don’t try to transition. I found that to be very helpful for me when I started the program. I still find things in my closet that I hesitated to get rid of in this last year and now realize that I will never wear again. You will love having everything Type 4 only. Enjoy!!
debbie says
I could really, really use this right now!
