I have noticed that you regularly buy tortillas in these shopping trips. Just wanted to mention that if you find a great deal, tortillas do freeze well. We have some go on sale in our area for between .69 and .89 regularly and I always buy several and throw them in the freezer. I either just let them thaw on the counter or pop in the microwave on the defrost setting. So far, haven’t had any problems!
Gretchen says
Thanks for the great tip! I didn’t know you could freeze tortillas so I will definitely keep that in mind next time there is a good sale!
Amy says
I freeze tortillas, too! Mexican is a FAVORITE of my husband’s (I should say THE favorite) so we fix it all the time. And when I was pregnant and couldn’t keep much down, tortillas with a little cheese were great, so I always keep a pack or two in the deep freeze.

How do you get milk at such low prices? Is it the area you live in, or is there a way to get deals on milk (certain days, etc.)? I can get 1 gallon of whole milk for $3.39 – lowest in town ever, and I know many areas are more expensive that ours (West TN).
Cris says
Here in TX (DFW area) milk is usually $3+ at target or kroger (sometimes goes on sale for $2.5) but last week I went to aldi and I paid $1.79 for the gallon! Sometimes it varies there but it’s consistently the cheapest place by far.
Gretchen says
Aldi is the cheapest place in town to buy milk. However, every once in a while Dillons run a sale on the half gallons (like they did this week). Most the time it is around $3.29/gallon there though.
Tina says
We need an Aldis in Tallahassee or Panama City. I am green with envy every time I see the deals you ladies find.

I love seeing the shopping trips! I’m really missing the printable coupons since my computer crashed. Please pray for me a great working computer at a great price that works for many years! Even my menus are on the computer

Crystal, I’d love to see you do a shopping trip and meal plan since you’ve cleaned up your eating. Maybe not every week, but maybe for like a month or so, so we could get an idea of what a typical month might look like. I’m really inspired by your last post on how you are eating, it would be great to see how it looks on a menu and financially. 🙂

I’m definitely *hoping* to do that soon! The past few weeks have been not normal at all (this past week, we only had one dinner at home — the rest of the evenings were at events with friends!), so I keep waiting for a week whenever it would be a realistic look. Though since we have so much great community here and lots of time spent with friends, I’m beginning to wonder if eating together with friends at least a few times per week *is* going to be the norm! 🙂
However, not all that much has changed in the way of what we buy since we stopped buying most processed foods a few years ago. We still buy cereal, sandwich bread, and tortillas, but most everything else is staples/meat/produce/dairy. I’ve just changed up the combinations of what I eat to be on the Trim Healthy Mama plan, don’t eat much gluten at all, and stopped eating sugar. I do get a few of my THM staples from Amazon and it seems we buy more meat, but other than that, our grocery trips look pretty similar to what they used to be.
