Welcome to my weekly Slow Day post, inspired by Monica from The Homespun Heart. My Word for 2018 is Slow and, in the spirit of that word, I’m taking one day each week (Wednesday) off — I’ll be unplugged and offline and plan to move at a slower pace, take time to do things that refresh me, and just really focus on being present and savoring the moment.
Each week, I’ll be sharing a photographic peek into my Slow Day — and I’ll let the pictures almost 100% speak for themselves, instead of giving many explanations. Enjoy a little peek into our lives!

The perfect way to start a Slow Day! I finished this book and really loved it!
I picked up my FREE photo at Walgreens.
I started this book and am anxious to see what I think of it!
We went to the UPS store to pick up our mail and I got my FREE Revolution Math Kit. Have you gotten yours yet? See what was inside of mine here and find out how to get yours.
After we picked the girls up from school (Silas is already out of school for the summer), we went shopping for furniture for our library.
The girls had a blast dreaming of ideas for Kathrynne’s room (she still hasn’t picked out furniture — she just has a mattress and a dresser. I told her she had to make this a priority as soon as she gets done with school for the summer at the end of this week.)
We didn’t find what we were looking for at the first store, so we headed to another store.
The kids LOVED the kid’s section of Rooms to Go.
We decided to go with this chair and a half for the library — we wanted something that wouldn’t take up a ton of space but that would be super comfortable and could seat two kids curled up. We also wanted something that was simple and would match the rest of our house decor. I have a feeling that all of us will spend many hours curled up in this chair with a good book!
We ended up taking way more time furniture shopping than we expected, so we decide to bump our dinner plans for the night and use our one Dinner Out night. I was having a friend over and wanted to get a few cleaning projects done before she came, so Jesse dropped me off at our house and then he took the kids out to Sonic.

Where do you get your decorating ideas? Your home has a professional appearance. Or do you have a friend or decorator that helps?
Crystal Paine says
We worked with a local furniture store for our living room. They talked to us about our preferences and then they picked out pieces for us based upon that!

Can you tell me where you got the scripture print for Isaiah 30:15? Your chair looks very cozy!
Crystal Paine says
It’s a pack of Scripture cards that a follower sent me. I’m actually not sure of the company. Does anyone know?

A Man Called Ove is one of my favorite books I read all last year. I personally thought it started a bit slowly BUT it was so worth it. Won’t ruin any of the book but I think it pairs nicely with what you’ve been sharing/learning about relationships. 😉
Crystal Paine says
Oh fun! That’s so good to hear! I can’t wait to be able to dive into it more now that you’ve said that.

I am also reading A Man Called Ove this week and I am really enjoying it. I would recommend My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry by the same author.
Crystal Paine says
Thanks so much for the recommendation!

Thank you! We’re planning to add a rug, a throw, and probably a floor lamp. But we decided to wait to have it delivered and then figure out what we’re going to buy to go with it. It’s supposed to come this week and we’re so excited to be so close to having our library done!

Jennifer Fulwiler is amazing! She does a tremendous job on her audio books, too. You have to read “Something Other Than God,” her conversion story. It’s a great read. Blessings to you, Crystal!

Thanks so much for the recommendation!

One Beautiful Dream looks so good! Thanks so much for the recommendation! And I love your word of the year “Slow”. Thank you for letting us in on what that looks like for you.
Crystal Paine says
You’re so welcome!

Slow days can be the best days though! I do have a couple of days a week where I don’t HAVE to leave the house but those always seem to turn into my busiest days! I like your idea! This year I want to make a point to realize that some errands can wait and it’s good to take a minute to relax!
Crystal Paine says
Yes! It’s been amazing to challenge myself to try slow down on these days instead of just filling them up!
Carol says
I’ve always loved furniture shopping! That chair does look like a comfy reading chair!

I just started A Man Called Ove this week too! It seems to be on many of the book lists I’ve seen online. I’m curious to see if it lives up to all the hype. My favorite books so far this year have been Killing Lincoln and America’s First Daughter. You have inspired me to make time to read this year and I have gotten through almost 15 books since January! Thanks for the encouragement!
Crystal Paine says
Woohoo on 15 books! I’m so proud of you!
Carrie says
Where did you get the metal frames? I love them!
Crystal Paine says
They were from a local furniture store!
Lana says
The chair is beautiful!

Thank you!
