Welcome to my weekly Slow Day post, inspired by Monica from The Homespun Heart. My Word for 2018 is Slow and, in the spirit of that word, I’m taking one day each week (Wednesday) off — I’ll be unplugged and offline and plan to move at a slower pace, take time to do things that refresh me, and just really focus on being present and savoring the moment.
Each Saturday, I’ll be sharing a photographic peek into my Slow Day — and I’ll let the pictures almost 100% speak for themselves, instead of giving many explanations. Enjoy a little peek into our lives!
Kaitlynn has had extra school work recently because of the end of quarter. She’s been SO diligent and focused and we’re just so proud of her! She got up at 5:45 a.m. to finish a project!
Have you read my post on how I drink a gallon of water every day?
After dropping Kaitlynn off at school, Kathrynne and I sat in the car at Starbucks and talked and I caught up on my Bible reading. I headed to drop off Kathrynne, get ready, and go to Discipleship Group & Discipleship Leader’s Luncheon.
Since Silas was on Spring Break this week, I told him he could pick a special date for us to go on. He chose to go to Dave & Buster’s and he & I had a blast there. Best of all, there are half-price games on Wednesday.
You can read more about our experience here.
And she came home & worked on more school work. Also, I want to be able to braid like her when I grow up!
Kathrynne and I worked on unboxing some of our Amazon orders together — and we finally have new towels, something we’ve needed to order for a long time!
I left to take Kathrynne to youth group and I met with some new friends at Panera while she was there.
I came home to find Jesse helping her with a few projects.

Would you ask Kaitlynn if she would consider doing a braid tutorial video? Her hair looks fabulous!

I think it’s super important that if you are feeling like you are losing your child to technology or that they are always on their phone, that you set some really strong boundaries (she only gets her phone at certain times of the day and it gets taken away if she’s on it without permission, etc.) I also encourage parents to consider not allowing phones in bedrooms — especially at night. And, most importantly, to know your individual child and to monitor everything they are doing online and to have protective boundaries/parental controls/blockers in place.

May I ask what the name of your Bible is? I’ve been searching for a new one and the print in yours looks very easy to read.

Go Kathrynne! What a trooper! Homework at the end of quarters can be a bit overwhelming (even for teachers), but it looks like she’s handling it with a positive attitude. Be encouraged. You’ve likely modeled that attitude for her. 🙂

Thank you for your encouragement!

I’ve seen the Contigo cups like yours for kids (14 oz I think) in two different stores. : )
Crystal Paine says
Fun! I LOVE my Contigo cups!

I love your nails and I love her braid!
Crystal Paine says
Thank you so much!

I wish I could braid like that, too! Sometimes I sit and watch YouTube videos doing my hair like what I’m being shown. I think I’ve got it…until I go look in the mirror and realize it looks more similar to a bird’s nest. Maybe she could post some hair tutorials for those of us who are challenged!
Crystal Paine says
I have SO experienced this exact same sort of thing with the bird’s nest thing! 😉
