I haven’t been on your blog in a really long time, so if you’ve answered this question already I apologize. When I started reading in 2009 your weekly budget was $40 for groceries and household items (if I remember right.) Do you think, if you really had to, that you could feed and supply your family for that now in 2017? I’m shopping Aldi now that we’ve moved to Goodlettsville, TN and have access to one, and I use Walmart/Kroger/Dollar Tree (with sales and some coupons) to fill in what we absolutely need and can’t get at Aldi. I struggle with everything I have to keep our budget under $65/week, and that’s because it’s absolutely necessary. Back in 2009-2014 I successfully kept our weekly budget around $40/week. I know for my family I couldn’t do it now for any less than $65/week. Our three children are now 11, 9, and 7, and that is part of why I can’t get the grocery budget any lower- they all eat and eat well now! 🙂

I definitely believe that I could, if I absolutely had to, but I know we wouldn’t be eating a super, healthy balanced diet. But probably oatmeal for breakfast, lots and lots of beans and rice, whatever was on markdowns at Kroger or Aldi, lots of eggs and bananas, and super cheap meals. I think that your $65 per week budget sounds great and you should be thrilled with that!

Do you eat the same menu as your family or do you make modifications with your eating plan?
Crystal Paine says
I eat pretty closely to what my family eats now… with just a few modifications — such as more salad! 😉

Acrylic nails? How long have you been wearing those?
Crystal Paine says
It’s actually dip polish — it last for 4 weeks! But my nails grow a LOT in 4 weeks! This was at the very end of 4 weeks, so it looks kind of weird! But I love that it stays on forever and that my nails are finally growing longer and stronger and I’m no longer biting them!
Christine says
Interesting! I’ve never heard of dip polish. I’ll check it out. Thanks 🙂
Stacey says
Would love to know how you make your egg and ham casserole.
Crystal Paine says
I shared the recipe on Instagram Stories. 🙂 I should eventually post it here!

I tried the sprouted bread this week for the first time, too. I loved it and couldn’t tell the difference between it and Ezekiel bread. And, I agree it is expensive, but less than Ezekiel bread, so it will be on my regular grocery list now.

I like the sprouted bread because it’s one of the few breads my son can eat. He has a soy allergy and soy is in almost all commercial breads. He can also eat Aldi’s French and Italian loafs but the sprouted works best for sandwiches. Yay Aldi!
