Since we’ve had a bad experience with ads on YouTube, I was excited to see this post from Jenae on How to Watch YouTube Videos Safely With Kids.

Thanks for the post — these sites are definitely the way to go when watching youtube videos. When I looked into them about a year ago, I couldn’t find any that tried to filter out content for families, so I made my own, called Watchkin.com. When you search on the site, Watchkin filters out the results to be more family friendly. But it also works fine for teenagers and classrooms (where the Youtube Kids app is really just geared for very young kids).
Watchkin also has a browser add-on that takes one minute to install, and then all your youtube activity can redirect automatically to a cleaned-up version at Watchkin. It’s worth a look if you care about which videos your kids are watching, and not just what shows up around the video.

We have been using YouTube kids on their iPads and it alleviates all these issues.

We never see commercials, ads or any of that on YouTube because we use AdBlock Plus and Ghostery plugins for Firefox. We also don’t see commercials or ads across the internet, no matter the website. It is a lot easier than pasting URL’s because our browser blocks it all.

Thank you so much for posting these 2 safe guards for the internet. Just to add, both of the safe guards are free.

Thanks for letting us know about ViewPure! I’ll be sure to try it out!
Another thing that has really helped to keep Youtube safe for me is enabling safety mode because comments aren’t visible then, and I have noticed a difference in the genre of advertisements.
Blessings,
Kaitlin
