Erin emailed in the following:
I always take the surveys on receipts that offer an entry into a giveaway, no matter which store they are from — Walgreens, Dillons, Hy-Vee, Walmart, etc. I figured it would have to pay off someday, but didn’t actually think that I’d ever win anything.
Lo and behold, I won a $500 Hy-Vee gift card! I received an email, then a call from the store, and I picked up the gift card last week. It’s legit! And Hy-Vee even threw in flowers and balloons!
So keep taking those receipt surveys. It is absolutely worth it! -Erin
Have you ever won anything exciting by entering giveaways?
Theresa L says
Congratulations! I always enter those things. You never know!
A couple months ago, I actually won a trip to Orlando! No joke! I entered my name into the radio station I listen to. You had to listen at a certain time. If they call your name, you have 10 minutes to call back. If you call, you win. Ironically, I wasn’t listening that morning, but a friend of mine was and she called me, so I was able to call and WIN! It was very exciting! I’ve never been to Florida and am a Disney FREAK! I can’t wait to go see the mouse! The best part is that it’s only a trip for 2! Second honeymoon!! WOO HOO!!

I’ve never won anything from a survey, mostly because I don’t do them (but will now!). I have won some great prizes from sweepstakes though. Last year won a $1000 Amazon gift card from an Amazon Marketplace sweepstakes and this year I won a Maytag refrigerator by posting a comment on Maytag’s facebook page!

I’ve filled out quite a few of the receipt surveys but never won anything. Your comments about the giveaways at car dealerships were interesting. I’ve always thrown away those envelopes, as I assumed I would need to go in for a high pressure sales pitch or test drive a car, but it sounds like that’s not necessarily true. I’ll check it out in the future!

We won a family vacation for sharing the story of my husband’s homecoming. We have also won a Keurig coffee machine for taking a survey.

I’ve never won anything, but I always complete the surveys. I work p/t with a major retailer and part of the determination of how much raise we get is based on how many ‘very good’ and ‘excellent’ scores we receive on surveys. Unhappy people tend to be more eager to take the survey, so reporting positive experiences as well as negative can help both the store and the clerk.

Congrats !!! In addition to filling out the surveys, ALWAYS open the “junk mail”.
I had gotten a piece of mail from the car dealership, it had sat on the table for a few days & I was going to toss it (thinking it was coupons of tires, oil change etc…) but decided to open it and it was 4 passes to a major amusement park
(over $200 value). All I had to do was go online and put in the code that was on the mailer—since I was late doing that, I did miss out on the free parking pass (a $12 value). Needless to say we had a BLAST at the park—used it for our childs birthday. There was NO way we could have gone and spent that type of $$$ just for the admission.

That is just awesome! Congratulations and I know you will be put to good use!

I entered a book giveaway on the goodreads website. 100 advanced copies were going to be given away of Debbie Macombers new book that was coming out a month or so later. It was my first giveaway ever on that site and I was one of the 100 of the 4700+ people who entered. It was awesome.

I have won several giveaways, it is totally worth the couple minutes to enter. In the past I won a Roomba floor vacuum and a Blu-Ray player from radio giveaways (I entered both online, so no calling in). I also won a $25 gift card to a local grocery store. The My Coke Rewards is another great way to win, in the past I have won a $25 Domino’s gift card and 5 free cases of Coke products from the free entries. Also I know many store do not do coloring contests anymore, but my mom always had my brother and I enter and we won big time! While growing up we both won bikes for dressing up like clowns and coloring a Halloween picture, my brother won a new Sega system, I won various movies and even savings bonds when they were popular.

Wow! Congrats Erin! :]

Yay! You just confirmed that they really do pick a Winner. What a great win.

I’m encouraged to do the surveys now! $500 is a lot of groceries. If I’m willing to clip coupons, I ought to be willing to take a few minutes for a survey. 🙂

One time we got an invitation in the mail to go to a GM car lot for a chance to win $1,000–no purchase necessary. We went and entered our names. My name was drawn! However, I had forgotten my driver’s license (my husband had driven). But they were kind enough to let my husband use his driver’s license to validate it. We have an unusual last name, so they didn’t question it. There were no strings attached, and we even had a form sent to us for our taxes. It was the perfect timing for that money.

Congratulations!! You just never know!! 🙂

Yea! I won a $100 gift card for Kroger after submitting a receipt online for a donation I had made to Goodwill. I didn’t even know I was entering until the radio station sponsoring it called me.

I do that, too! Make sure you do restaurant surveys, too, because you win free meals or at the very least, $5 or $10 gift certificates. Almost always. 🙂

Yes. We were blessed to have won $5000 from Fareway (our amazing local grocery store). We submitted a photo of a healthy snack and then spent six (very long) weeks begging friends to vote online for our photo. That money allowed us to give $500 to our local food pantry, throw some parties for the friends who supported us and paid for our food for more than a year.
