Are you joining us for the 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge? If so, it’s the weekend and guess what that means? It’s time for our weekly check-in to post our progress.
April’s Challenge:
We’re focusing on developing the habit of cutting back on sugar. I encourage you to set a simple and doable goal for eating less sugar and to stick with it.

My Goals for Cutting Back on Sugar During April
My goal for April is to cut back on sugar — which is hard for a girl like me who has a strong sweet tooth! I’m going to make it my goal to only eat dessert once a week and to cut back on the sugar I use in my coffee on a daily basis, too.
I’m also hoping to keep up with January’s habit of exercising at least 4-5 times every week, February’s goal of eating a big salad at least six times a week, and March’s goal of drinking 8 glasses of water a day.
This Week’s Progress:
Believe it or not, this eating less sugar thing is becoming a HABIT for me… which is something I never thought I’d say. I look forward to eating dessert once a week, but I’m not craving it every day like I used to. That’s a pretty massive shift for me! I’m also noticing that our family as a whole is eating healthier as a result of this challenge.
In other news, I hit my water goals four out of the seven days, exercised four times, and ate a salad at least every day.

I’m so flopping this month! We had birthdays and Easter back-to-back, so we have lots of cakes and treats to eat up before they go bad! We also had some of our first doughnuts this week in months (my oldest daughter got diagnosed with celiac about 6 months ago, so we don’t have bakery treats around the house anymore; we get them at community events during holidays), and they were too sweet for me to enjoy! I guess I should take that as a sign that while it seems like I’m not meeting my goals, I’m still making progress anyway!

I think I stuck to my sugar goal 6 out of 7 days last week. It is still hard but I finding less temptation to just grab a quick sugary treat. I am doing ok on the other goals as well- not perfect- but I am definitely more mindful of water and fruit/veggies. I did just give up on being able to run my half marathon in 2 weeks. My hip just isn’t healed enough and I don’t want to risk setting myself back several months. So I think I am going to rework my fitness goals a little so running isn’t the focus but do the things that don’t aggravate my injury consistently. I will keep trying to run once a week and see how it feels.

I totally need to cut back on sugar! I eat wayyyyyy too much ad get infections b/c of it!
Do u still put sugar in ur coffee? Wat about any prossessed food that u buy ad treats for an afternoon snack/coffee brea? I seem to go to the coffee shop everyday b/c w/o being able to drive and i am limited in where i can go (public transportation). I have SUCH a sweet tooth-i basically ‘have’ to have a sweet everyday!

Yes, I still put sugar in my coffee, but I’ve cut back on that… Little baby steps, right? 🙂

I have to say, this was not a good week for me. Way too much sugar and not enough water. Fortunately, I can begin again. 🙂

Tomorrow is a new day! You can do it; I’m cheering for you!

Awesome! Getting into the habit of less sugar is a huge step. And I’m doubly impressed that you’re doing this while moving! 🙂

Yay for you Crystal, I know how hard it is to cut out sugar! You’re right though, it does become a habit. Eventually when you have any sugar at all, it tastes way too sweet.
